Quelques formes d'exécution de ladite in vention seront décrites en référence au dessin, dans lequel la fig. 1 est une vue de côté d'une pre mière forme d'exécution ; la fig. 2 est une coupe par la ligne 2-2 de la fig. 1 ; la fig. 3 est une coupe semblable à la fig. 2, mais représentant les pièces mobiles dans les positions qu'elles occupent à la fin de la course de travail du poinçon ; la fig. 4 est une coupe par la ligne 4-4 de la fig. 2 ; la fig. 5 est une coupe longitudinale par tielle, avec arrachement partiel, de la partie supérieure d'une variante du porte-poinçon ;
la fig. 6 est une vue de côté semblable à la fig. 1, mais représentant une seconde forme d'exécution ; la fig. 7 en est une coupe verticale par tielle ; la fig. 8 est une coupe semblable à la fig. 7, mais représentant les pièces mobiles de la poinçonneuse dans la position qu'elles occu pent à la fin de la course de travail ; la fig. 9 est une coupe partielle par la ligne 9-9 de la fig. 7 ; la fig. 10 est une coupe par la ligne 10-10 de la fig. 8 ;
Punching machine The present invention relates to a punching machine for punching holes, in particular in a sheet.
The punching machine which is the subject of the invention is characterized in that it comprises a C-shaped frame, a die carried by the lower arm of said frame, a punch holder mounted to slide in a bore made in the upper arm of said frame, an extractor slidably mounted on the punch holder and placed between the two arms, and a compressible member consisting of a solid material mounted in the punch holder and acting between the extractor and the punch holder.

fig. 11 is a view of the rear of the former tractor of the punching machine of FIGS. 6 to 10 inclusive.
Reference will first be made to the embodiment of the invention shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 inclusive. The punching machine as a whole is designated by 20: it comprises a C-shaped frame 21, the upper and lower arms of which are designated by 22 and 23, this frame being provided with a guide pin 24 which protrudes on its base surface and makes it possible to mark the position of the punching machine in a complementary guide hole made in a base-jig 25 forming part of the press on which the punching machine is used. A matrix 27 is mounted on the lower arm 23 of the frame.
This die may be of the conventional construction having an opening 28 (Fig. 2) below which a recess 29 constitutes a passage through which the discharge of the openings takes place.
In the upper arm 22 of the frame is mounted in axial alignment with the die a punch holder 30 which comprises a cylindrical tubular member 31 closed at its upper end and in the lower end of which is mounted an element 33 constituting the punch properly said. The tubular member 31 has a conical recess 34 at its lower end, and the actual punch 33 has a corresponding conical portion 35 which is intended to be assembled by force fitting into the conical recess 34 of the tubular member. .
In the tubular member 31 is mounted, above the punch 33, a piston 37 intended to slide vertically in this member. This piston rests by its lower end on a pin or transverse bar 38 which passes through diametrically opposed slots of the tubular member 31 and whose opposite ends are engaged in holes made in an extraction collar 40.
The tubular member 31 encloses a cylindrical member 46 made of a solid, compressible material, such as a high compressibility plastic material, for example a hard silicon, nylon 5, polystyrene, etc. The cylindrical member 46 bears by its upper end against the bottom of the tubular member 31 and by its lower end against a member or seal 48, which itself bears against the upper end of the piston 37.
The punching force is transmitted from the press slide 45 (Fig. 3), through the tubular member 31, to the punch 33. During a working stroke, the extraction ring 40 moves with the punch 33 and the punch holder 30 until it strikes the sheet metal or other work 50 (fig. 3) intended to be perforated, said ferrule being pushed by the punch holder 30, the compressible cylinder 46, l 'sealing member 48 and pin 38.
In the continuation of the downward stroke of the punch, which perforates the sheet, the solid member 46 is compressed and decreases in volume under the pressure of the extraction ring 40, of the pin 38, of the piston. 37 and the seal 48, so that when the press slide 45 rises in its return stroke, thereby removing the pressure it exerted on the tubular member 31, the solid member 46 expands and resumes its initial volume, thus forcing the tubular member 31 to move upwards, that is to say to extract the punch 33 from the work 50.
The punch extraction movement continues until the lower end 52 of the slot 39 of the tubular member 31 hits or stops the pin 38. The punch holder 30 is then returned to the upper position, shown. in fig. 3, by a lifting coil spring 55 which surrounds the tubular member 31 and of which one end 56 is fixed inside said punch holder, the other end resting on the upper arm 22 of the frame 21.
In the punch holder 30, instead of the main body 31 being, as usual, a perforation tool, of small transverse section with respect to its length, surrounded by a tubular extractor, this member is tubular. , that is to say that it consists of a cylindrical body whose core, or inner portion of small section and low mechanical strength, has been removed and replaced by a solid compressible member 46. This member 46 strengthens the tube, at the same time that it behaves like an extractant.
The punch holder of the punching machine shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive thus comprises a closed tubular member 31 which has the mechanical strength and rigidity which are the normal attributes of cylindrical members of the same diameter and of the same length. Fig. 3 shows the positions occupied by the parts at the end of punching, the actual punch 33 having perforated the sheet 50, from which it has detached the washer 51, and the extraction ring 40 having been moved upwards by relative to the body 31 of the punch, so that the pin 38 compressed the piston 37, which, in turn, provided compression or reduction in volume of the compressible solid member 46.
After the press slide has performed its upward movement as stated above, the extraction ring 40 acts on the sheet 50 to release the punch itself 33, after which, under the action of the lifting spring 55 , the device again occupies a position such as that shown in FIG. 2, said spring having raised the assembly 30 over a sufficient distance to allow the removal of the work or its re-installation below said assembly.
The complementary cones 34 and 35 of the tubular member 31 and of the actual punch 33 collectively constitute a force-locked housing, the punch 33 having initially been force-fitted into the tubular member. At each of the successive operations, the punch sinks further into the tubular member and it can no longer be released from it by the normal extraction load. This is due to the fact that, independently of the blocking provided by the conical interlocking, the surface friction which occurs between the conical surfaces is greater than the friction which occurs between the punch itself and the walls of the hole, so that said punch çon is firmly held in the tubular organ.
However, with the aid of a suitable tool, it is easy to detach the punch from the tubular member in order to replace it with a new one when it has become dull or if it breaks.
The pin 38, which transmits the loads resulting from the extraction, is preferably a tubular member constituted by a rolled plate which, when it is fitted and forcibly inserted into the aligned openings of the ferrule 40, fits. locked in said openings and then, by the effect of the elasticity of the metal, tends to take its shape again, which keeps it more solidly in position. This pin has been shown in more detail in FIG. 4, which brings out the way in which said pin is tightly seated in the outer shell 40, in order to come into contact with the piston 37. While in tension, a rectangular pin or other suitable pin could be substituted for the pin. 38.
Although the compressible solid member 46 has been shown in the form of a cylindrical part of great length, it will be noted that when the apparatus is at rest, the punch itself 33 has been raised and is returned inside. the extraction ferrule 40, such that its lower end is slightly recessed (fig. 2) and that, during the initial operation of the device, the solid member 46 is subjected to an initial deformation or to a load prior, before the punch comes into contact with the work, the compression of said solid member taking place at the time when the shell 40 comes into contact with the work.
Although this arrangement is satisfactory in most cases, it is often necessary to subject the compressible member either to initial deformation or to compression before any movement has taken place. For this purpose, use can be made of a tubular member of modified construction, such as that shown in FIG. 5. In this case, the tubular member 31 'is threaded at its upper end to receive an adjusting screw 60 which bears on a sealing washer 61, for example made of nylon, itself bearing on the member. compressible solid 46.
It is obvious that the position of the screw 60 can be adjusted by screwing it into the tubular member 31 'so as to subject the compressible solid member 46 to a preliminary load, while maintaining the same stroke for the punch, given that the cylindrical member 31 'can be given the same length as that of the tubular member 31, this length being the same with respect to the opening height of the punching machine. It is further evident that the member 31 'can be made of a seamless steel tube, in order to reduce the machining costs.
Another embodiment has been shown in figs. 6 to 11 inclusive. In this embodiment, in order to increase the volume to the extent necessary to perforate a piece of thicker material, the compressible member, designated by 76, is given a conical shape. The application of a member of this shape makes it possible to increase the volume of the compressible material, while maintaining the same section in the portion of this member which comes into contact with the piston. The conical member 76 tapers from its upper end to its lower end, where its diameter is substantially the same as that of the cylindrical compressible member 46 of the construction of FIGS. 1 to 3.
The conical compressible member allows loads over longer strokes, for a given piston force and volume. Due to the enlarged portion and the conical shape of the compressible solid organ, the volume of which is greater, the punching machine of FIGS. 6 to 11 is capable of perforating a material thickness which is approximately twice that which can be perforated by the punching machine of Figs. 1 to 5. This is due to the fact that the increase in volume of the compressible solid organ allows a longer stroke, combined with a greater force than that which is possible to obtain with the device of figs. . 1 to 5.
This punch press can be shorter and narrower and still generate a much greater pulling force, with a longer life spring, than conventional punch presses with a single steel spring.
In this embodiment, the punch includes a C-shaped frame 121 provided with an upper arm 122 and a lower arm 123. The lower arm carries a die 127, which can be of conventional construction. . In the upper arm 122 is mounted a tubular member 71 which internally has a conical axial cavity 72 containing the compressible solid member 76, of corresponding conical shape. Like the member 46 of the previous construction, the member 76 is made of a compressible plastic material, such as a hard silicone or the like. The upper end of the tubular member 71 is closed off by a threaded cap 73 which is screwed onto it in an adjustable manner.
Between the cap 73 and the solid member 76 are interposed a series of variable number of ron delles 74 and a seal 77, for example in nylon. The compressible solid member 76 rests at its lower end on a seal 78 which may be made of nylon and which in turn rests on the upper end of a piston 77.
In this embodiment, the ex-tractor unit consists of a C-shaped part 80 embracing a projection 81 presented by the lower end of the piston 77 and engaged in a hole 82 of the upper arm 83 of said part 80. The upper arm 83 passes through a slot 84 of the tubular member 71. Due to the increased load on the punching machine of FIGS. 6 to 11, it is desirable that the tubular member 71 not be severed or grooved in two places, since this would weaken the structure which transmits the compressive or punching loads.
Therefore, the tubular member 71 is only grooved on one side, as shown at 84, with the C-shaped piece 80 being inserted through said groove so that it fits over the protrusion. 81 of the piston 77, which locks it to said piston and prevents it from moving relative to the latter in the axial direction of the punch.
The part 80 forming the extractor is hand held in contact with the piston 77 by a coil spring 85 housed in a hole 86 of the upper arm 122 of the frame of the unit, this spring engaging by one of its ends in a hole 87 of the extractor member and hooking by its other end on a pin 88 fixed in the upper arm 122 of the C-shaped frame. This spring 85 is used to raise the punch and to keep the extractor 80 in con tact with the piston 77. The C-shaped extractor member can easily be disassembled then simply pull it downwards so as to disengage it from the projection 81 of the piston 77, then slide it to the right of fig. 7.
Due to the high loads which must be transmitted through member 80, it is preferable to give this member a cross section generally similar to that of an I-joist, as shown in the detail views of Figs. . 10 and 11. In this way, high loads can be transmitted around body 71 for the purposes described. The actual punch of this embodiment has, at its upper end, a cylindrical surface 91 whose diameter is a little larger than that of its working portion and which is force-fitted into the lower end of the tubular organ 71.
The lower arm 93 of the extractor 80 is pierced with a hole 94 which is in axial alignment with the tubular member 71 and through which the punch 90 can move in its working and return strokes.
By varying the thickness or the number of washers 74, the preliminary load of the compressible solid member 76 can be modified at will.
It will be noted that the extractor 80 and the corresponding member 40 of FIG. 2 are wider than the hole in the upper arm 122 (or 22) of the punching machine in which the tubular member 71 (or 31) is mounted. This prevents the punch holder 130 (or 30) from leaving its support under the effect of an impact. If the punch is thrown in this way when the extraction has not taken place and the press slide executes a further downstroke, the destruction of the press, the work and the tools may result. This possibility is not to be considered with the present device for protection against projections of the punch.
The operation of the punch, in this embodiment, is essentially the same as that already described. In its descent, the slide 45 of the press strikes the cap 73, which causes the tubular member 71 and the punch 90 to move downwards, until the tubular member 71 comes into contact with the. upper arm 83 of the extractor 80. In continuing the downward movement of the slide, the extractor 80 participates in the movement of the punch and of the tubular member 71, overcoming the resistance of the spring 85.
When the extractor 80 comes into contact with the top face of the sheet or work 50, this downward movement is stopped, but the slide continues to descend to drive the punch through the work. In this downward movement of the slide, the solid member 76 is compressed and decreases in volume, as shown in FIGS. 7 and 8; the punch, driven through the work, perforates the sheet in which it cuts a washer 51. When the slide rises, the compressed solid member 76 can expand to resume its initial volume, which has the effect of '' extract the punch from the work.
The spring 85 can then return the punch holder to its upper position, the parts occupying the positions shown in FIG. 7.
In the punching machines described, the powerful coil spring which constituted the ex-tractor unit of known constructions does not exist. By virtue of the present construction, holes can be punched at smaller center-to-center distances, and sheets of a given thickness can be punched on smaller pres its; or it is possible to punch holes in sheets thicker than those which it was possible to punch up to this day using presses of normal dimensions. Because the mass of the moving assembly has been reduced, presses operating at higher speeds can be used.
