Process for the preparation of new derivatives of dibenzothiophene dioxide The present invention relates to the preparation of new, water-soluble derivatives of dibenzothiophene dioxide of the general formula
EMI0001.0004
wherein the Dibenztliiiophendioxy drest can contain Substit.uenten such as halogen atoms, alkyl, Alkox @ T or Su.lfonsäuregruppen and R. hydrogen or .an organic radical, z.
B. denote an alkj, aryl, aralkyl or furfuryl radical, and Me denotes a cation.
The compounds of the formula mentioned are colored yellow and have a strong fluorescence which becomes visible in solution or, if the compounds are applied to a substrate, on irradiation with ultraviolet light. In addition, the compounds are sensitive to treatment with oxidants and, to a lesser extent, also to those with acids, with the fluorescence being irreversibly destroyed. If a substrate with. impregnated the compounds according to the invention. has been, due to the lack of fluorescence, subsequent exposure to oxidants or acids can be determined.
The new derivatives of the formula given are obtained if an aldehyde bisulfite compound is allowed to act on a 3, i-diamino-d'ibenzo @ thiophendioxyd- (5).
Possible starting materials for the manufacture of the products according to the invention are benzidine sulfone and its derivatives alkylated, alkoxylated or halogenated in the benzene nuclei, eg.
B. Tolidinstil- phone, also derived sulfonic acids such as benzide, in- or tolidinsulfon-sulfonsätlren. Such compounds are known or can be prepared by methods known per se.
In the present process, either the finished aldehyde bisulfite compounds can be added to the reaction mixture, or these compounds, which are easily formed from aldehyde and sulfurous acid, can also be prepared in the reaction mixture itself, before or during the actual reaction.
As aldehydes, their bisulfite addition products or which themselves are used together with sulfur dioxide. those of the a.liphatic, aromatic, araliphatic or heterocyclic series are used.
For example, the following may be mentioned: formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, benzaldehyde, p-chlorobenzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, furfural. Formaldehyde or benzaldehyde are preferably used.
The reaction between the reaction components is conveniently carried out by heating in the presence of water to a higher temperature, eg. B. 90-100, until the condensation product has become water-soluble.
It may be necessary to work under pressure. According to the method of the present invention, for example, the following compounds can be prepared:
EMI0002.0008
by condensation of tolidinesulfone with the addition product of sodium disulfite and formaldehyde.
EMI0002.0011
analogous to the compound under 1 with the corresponding benzaldehyde bisulfite compound.
The novel products available according to the invention can be used in such a way that the material to be treated is impregnated with solutions, in particular aqueous, of the compounds mentioned and dried after being spun off or squeezed off. The compounds accessible according to the present process can also be used in the course of the manufacturing process for the materials to be treated, for example by adding them to a paper mass.
Materials that can be treated include the following textile materials in general, which can be present in any form as fibers, threads, yarns, woven or knitted goods or as felt, and products made therefrom.
Such textile materials can consist of: natural materials of animal origin, such as wool and silk, or of vegetal origin, such as cellulose materials made of cotton, hemp, flaehs, linen and ramie, and also of semi-synthetic materials such as regenerated cellulose, e.g. B.
Artificial silk, viscose, including rayon, or synthetic materials that have been polymerized or mixed polymer islation. are available, or those that are available by polycondensation, such as polyester and especially polyamides, such as nylon.
Fibers of a different kind, which are not textile materials that can be of animal origin, such as feathers, hair, and also furs and leather; furthermore, those of vegetable origin such as straw, wood, wood pulp or fiber materials consisting of compacted fibers, such as paper, cardboard or compressed wood, as well as products made therefrom.
Finally, films, varnishes and resins made from plastics of semi-synthetic or synthetic origin, such as cellophane.
The material to be treated can be uncolored or colored. or be printed.
In the following examples, parts mean unless otherwise noted. Part by weight: e; the ratio between parts by weight and parts by volume is the same as that between kilograms and liters.
Example 1 From 1040 parts of 40% by weight sodium bis-lite solution and 324 parts of 37% wt% formaldehyde solution, a r # ormal'd'ehydbisu, lite solution is prepared, which is then used with. Makes 18 parts of sodium carbonate weakly alkaline. To do this there.
274 parts of tolidinesulfone are added with stirring and the mixture is heated under reflux. As soon as the reaction mixture becomes thick, 500 to 750 parts of water are added in portions. After stirring for 6-8 hours it is almost. everything clearly resolved. After that, traces of insoluble accompanying components are filtered off while still hot.
Then let it cool down, add to the complete separation. Sodium chloride, filtered, washed with an aqueous sodium chloride solution and dried. The disodium salt of 3,7-bis- (sullfomethyl-amino) -dünethyl-di-benzo-thiophendio @ xyd- (5) of the formula
EMI0003.0031
is a bright yellow powder that is soluble in water.
This solution fluoresces, applied to a substrate and exposed to ultraviolet rays, bright yellow.
If, in the above example, the formaldehyde is replaced by benzaldehyde, acetaldehyde or linitaldehyde, products with similar properties are obtained.
Example 29 A furfurol bisulfite solution is prepared from 130 parts of 40 percent strength by weight sodium bisulfite solution, 1-8.0 parts of freshly distilled furfural and 75 parts of water, and 50 parts of this are prepared Carefully add a 10 1 / o strength sodium carbonate solution. In addition there.
246 parts of benzidine sulfone are stirred and boiled on the reflux. After 3 hours, traces of a dark by-product are filtered off hot, the filtrate is stirred for several hours while cooling with ice water, the condensation product which has separated out is filtered, washed with a little ice water and dried.
