<B> Electric soldering iron for soldering </B> aluminum When soldering aluminum with soft solder, it is well known that precautions must be taken to ensure that the oxide film on the surface of the aluminum is removed or destroyed during the The surface is coated with molten solder. This is necessary because surface oxidation occurs extremely quickly when aluminum is exposed to air.
In a known method, the aluminum to be soldered is preheated to a temperature which is high enough to bring the solder used to melt. A pool of molten solder then forms on the oxide film on the surface of the aluminum , and the film itself is then destroyed by using a scraper or wire brush to work through the pool of molten solder. Tinning then takes place, and after tinning has been achieved, soldering is carried out in the normal manner. In order to avoid the need for a special scraping operation, it has already been proposed to use the whole tip of a soldering iron. Vibrate ultrasonic frequency.
The soldering process in this case then consists of bringing the vibrating tip onto the surface of the preheated aluminum and applying solder in the usual way. The vibrations serve to break the surface film of oxide, whereupon the tinning takes place.
However, the costs of such a soldering iron with the associated vibration mechanism and the device for generating the vibrations of ultrasonic frequency are relatively high compared to a conventional soldering iron.
The present invention aims to create a soldering iron by means of which aluminum can be softly soldered without the need to preheat the workpiece or a special scraping process and the costs of which are significantly lower than those of the ultrasonic apparatus mentioned.
The electric soldering iron for soldering aluminum according to the present invention, with means for destroying the oxide film on the aluminum surface, is characterized by the fact that these means consist of a tool movable in a guide of the piston head and an electric drive to generate it Movement be available for the purpose of using the tool to destroy the oxide film that is present under the soldering compound melted by the soldering iron on the surface, the aluminum.
In the accompanying drawing, an embodiment of the soldering iron is shown with example. Fig. 1 shows partly a side view, partly a section, and FIG. 2 shows a circuit diagram of the embodiment of FIG.
The soldering iron has a handle 10 made of heat insulating material, for example made of wood or plastic, which consists of two halves screwed together to allow easy access to the interior. to allow. On the handle 10 is. a steel tube 11 carrying a steel support 12 is attached. At the end of the support 12, a soldering device is mounted, which has a central copper rod 13 on which a removable soldering head 14 is attached by means of a clamping screw 15, has. The rod 13 is. partially surrounded by an electrical heating element 16.
Is on the support 12. an electromagnetic vibrator unit 17 is mounted. This unit 17 is pivotably mounted at 18 on the support 12 and can be adjusted about the axis of rotation 18 by means of an adjusting screw 19 which acts against a spring 0. The screw 19 is screwed into a support 21 and is prevented from undesired rotation during the swinging of the aggregate 17 by a spring 22.
The vibrator assembly comprises an E-shaped core having a winding 23 on its middle leg. An armature 24 is rotatably supported at 25 on the core, and its rest position is determined by a spring 26 extending between the armature 24 and the base leg of the core. The free end of the anchor 24 is firmly connected to one end of a rod 27 which protrudes through openings in the support 12, in the head 14 and in the rod 13 into a central bore 28 passing through the tip of the head 14.
At: the end of the rod 27 opposite the armature 24, a head 29 is attached, in wel chem a bundle of wires 30, for example made of stainless steel, firmly. is mounted ..
The heating element 16 is to be connected to an AC power source by a cable 31 entering the handle 10. The Wick development 23 of the vibrator unit 17 is then with the interposition of a Sehalters 33 through the cable 31. the alternating current source connected, the conductive connec tion by operating the switch handle 32 takes place. The arrangement of the circuit is shown in FIG. 2, in which the same parts are denoted by the same reference numerals as in FIG.
The metal parts made of iron are by a clamp 34 on the rod 11, which with. the. Earth conductor of the cable 31 connected. is grounded. The vibrator unit 17 is provided with a removable cover 35, and the heating element 16 is encapsulated by a removable cover 36.
When using the soldering iron, the heated tip is held against the surface to be soldered of the aluminum, which has been preheated if necessary, with solder being melted between the tip of the head 14 and the aluminum and looking in the form of a pool on the aluminum spreads. Then the switch handle 32 is actuated, whereby the armature 24 is set in vibration. The vibrations are transmitted through the rod 27 to the wires 30, with the back and forth movement of the oxide film on the part: the aluminum, from which air is kept away by the plumb line, is destroyed.
The amount by which the tip 30 protrudes from the bore 28 can. can be adjusted by means of the screw 19. A certain setting of this extent can, however, be achieved by changing the pressure exerted on the tool tip 30 because the rod is slightly bent and can therefore yield in the longitudinal direction.
Instead of the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the tool 27, 29, 30 can work in touches on the side of the head 14, if care is taken, that its tip during operation \ finitely that of that by the piston -esehmolen Lotla.ehe covered aluminum surface comes into contact.
Instead of the wires 30, the tool can also be designed like a chisel at its tip, the chisel tip causing the oxide film to be removed as it moves back and forth.
The soldering iron is preferably powered from an alternating current network and the oscillating device comprises an alternating current vibrator mechanism which is formed in such a way that it causes the said tool to oscillate during operation. For example, the power supply to the vibrator can be from a frequency of between 30 and 60 per./sec. and the oscillation frequency is therefore between 60 and 1. \ 30 per./sec. lie.
It is tested. It has been found that the soldering iron described produces results which are satisfactory for most purposes.
The additional costs for the vibrator unit with its associated tools are relatively small compared to those of the ultrasonic equipment, which is mentioned in. known ultrasound apparatus is required.
The costs of a small direct current or alternating current motor, which is designed to drive a rotary tool, are higher than those of an alternating current vibrator, but are nevertheless significantly lower than those of the aforementioned. known ultrasound machine.
