Arrangement for the automatic control of the output voltage of an amplifier The present invention relates to an arrangement for the automatic control of the output voltage of an amplifier, for the purpose of keeping the amplitude of the output voltage constant within certain limits regardless of the amplitude of the input voltage, and has the aim that To improve the dynamic behavior of such an arrangement in the event of sudden overload.
A known method for Regehuig the amplification, in which the steepness of control tubes is changed with the help of the control voltage, has the disadvantage that, in addition to the signal voltage, the control voltage in its full magnitude also enters the amplification path. A sudden change in the Control voltage is therefore supplied by the amplifier. transmitted and causes relatively long Einsehwingvorgäu ge.
Control amplifiers in which a reactance tube is connected into the cathode feed line of an amplifier tube by means of which the current negative feedback of this amplifier tube is varied have the same disadvantage. Also is. such a scheme is not very effective.
Furthermore, an automatic arrangement for regulating the output voltage of an amplifier has been proposed, in which the division ratio of a voltage divider connected upstream of the amplifier is controlled with the aid of the output voltage. According to this proposal, the voltage divider consists of two temperature-dependent resistors, one of which is provided with a heating winding which is fed with a voltage derived from the output voltage of the amplifier.
Due to the heat transfer rate of the control resistor, a relatively high control time constant can also be expected with this type of control.
The transient oscillation of a regulating amplifier is particularly noticeable when its duration exceeds about 111o s. A rapid increase in the input voltage leads to the amplifier being overdriven before the gain is adjusted to its final value. is. The distortion of the output voltage and Veratärkungsändermigen occurring during this time are clearly audible in certain cases.
In the arrangement for the automatic control of the output voltage of an amplifier according to the invention, use is also made of a voltage divider upstream of the amplifier, with its division ratio. Using the output voltage is controlled.
In contrast to the last-mentioned arrangement, however, instead of the temperature-dependent control resistor, the voltage divider according to the invention contains two valves connected in parallel with opposite flow direction, which are biased by a control voltage derived from the output voltage.
In order to avoid that control voltage surges get into the amplification path, the arrangement is also made so that the valves, together with, are bridged in terms of alternating currents. The links form a bridge circuit to which the control voltage is fed to points that are symmetrical to the amplifier input.
Crystal diodes are particularly suitable for producing the controllable voltage divider, since it is known that the differential resistance of a crystal diode changes very strongly in the vicinity of the zero point as a function of the voltage applied. It should be noted, however, that because of the strong curvature of the diode characteristic, only very small voltages may be applied to the diode so that the non-linear distortions do not become impermissibly high.
The accompanying drawing shows schematically an example embodiment of the subject invention.
The amplifier 1, the output voltage of which is to be regulated at terminals 2, 3, is preceded by a controllable voltage divider, to which the voltage to be amplified is fed to terminals 4, 5. The unchangeable part of the voltage divider consists of an ohmic resistor 6.
Forms the adjustable part of the voltage divider. a bridge circuit composed of two valves 7 and 8 of the same characteristics and two ohmic resistors 9, 10 of the same size. The resistors 9, 10 are bridged by capacitors 11, 12 of high capacitance in terms of alternating current, so that there is a parallel connection of the valves 7, 8 for the signal frequencies under consideration, namely, as can be seen, with opposite flow direction of the same. .
The control voltage is fed to the bridging circuit at points 13, 14, which have the same potential with respect to the amplifier input.
The control voltage is taken from a sliding ruler, which consists of the two valves 1.5, 16 and a filter capacitor 17 and is connected to the amplifier output via a transformer 18. So that the control only becomes effective from a certain level of the output voltage, a valve 20 biased by an auxiliary voltage supplied by the battery 19 is arranged in the primary circuit of the transformer 18.
This arrangement has various advantages over introducing the bias voltage directly into the rectifier circuit. On the one hand, negative charging of the filter capacitor 17 (usually an electrolytic capacitor) can be prevented in this way. On the other hand, the battery 19 can be earthed on one side and the internal resistance of the same or
a corresponding DC voltage source can be relatively high, because the same is reduced by the transformer 18.
With the control arrangement described, the above-mentioned inconveniences are significantly reduced. Tests on an amplifier controlled in this way have shown that the steady state is reached after about 30 ms when a sine wave voltage is suddenly applied, which corresponds approximately to a 10-fold overload of the amplifier.
