Les ébauches sont formées à partir d'une bande rectiligne 4 dont chaque bord est garni de matière absorbante 3 que l'on fait adhérer par collage; la bande est ensuite entaillée sur ses bords de facon à séparer les extrémités des futures pinces tout en les maintenant réunies les unes aux autres par la partie mé- diane Û; les ébauches ainsi formées sont cambrées en forme d'arceaux le long de eette partie médiane 5 et leurs extrémités sont trempées dans un produit médicamenteux volatil de manière à en imprégner la matière absorbante 3;
Device for treating diseases of the respiratory organs via the nasal route and method
manufacturing of this device.
The invention relates to a device for treating ailments of the respiratory organs via the nasal passage and consisting of an elastic support which comprises a middle part - arched and two widened ends, these two ends being intended to be each introduced into a nostril and carrying a volatile drug.
The devices in question contused up to here generally consisted of a small forceps of suitable material which is placed astride the septum of the nose. The branches of this forceps included a small cavity or receptacle in which a product suitable for acting on the condition to be treated had been placed. These devices had serious drawbacks, such as the following:
The containers which included the branches of the forceps were provided with perforations, to allow the active ingredients of the medicaments placed in these containers to exert their therapeutic action.
However, these drugs lost their active power if they were not used shortly after being placed in these containers; other devices had to be provided, at the time of their use, with a cotton ball impregnated with the medicament to be applied, the container was then either bulky enough and inconvenient for the patient, or else too small to receive a effective amount of drug. In addition, these devices did not have all the guarantees of hygiene because they escaped medical control. The user could at his discretion introduce any drug into the device, which presented great dangers. As these devices were designed for repeated use, it was essential to sterilize them after use.
The object of the invention is to remedy the drawbacks presented by the devices recommended up to now.
The device forming the subject of the invention is characterized in that the elastic support, in the form of a clamp, carries absorbent elements, fixed to the widened ends of the support, impregnated with a volatile drug and coated with a protective covering for the medicament, airtight, the whole so that the sealed action of the protective covering can be suppressed during use of the device.
The purpose of the airtight protective covering is to protect the drug from any alteration or reduction in its effectiveness; it can be advantageously obtained by soaking the branches already provided with the medicament in a bath of plastic material capable of being dried and solidified rapidly without any harmful effect on the medicament to be protected.
The present invention also relates to a process for manufacturing the device, which process consists in forming a rectilinear blank, the length of which is equal to the developed length of the clamp to be produced, in fixing elements of absorbent material at its ends, in the bending in the form of a clamp, impregnating the absorbent material with the volatile drug, then covering said absorbent material with a film of airtight material.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the device according to the invention as well as the stages of their manufacturing process.
Figs. 1 and 2 are perspective views of the two embodiments.
Figs. 3 to G represent the steps of the manufacturing process of the first embodiment.
Figs. 7 to 9 represent the steps of the manufacturing process of the second embodiment.
In the first embodiment (fig. 1), - the elastic support that the device comprises, has the form of a small clamp, preferably of transparent plastic.
This clamp has a curved middle part 1 and its branches with widened ends are advantageously terminated by a kind of spatula 2. On the outer face of each spatula 2 is glued a pad of absorbent material 3, soaked in the drug to be used. In order to prevent any evaporation or deterioration of the medicament, the tampons 3 are covered with an airtight protective covering made of plastic material without any detrimental effect on the medicament.
Contained in this form, the drug is liable to retain its effectiveness for a long time, removed from the influence of external agents.
To release the action of the drug (in other words to put the device in a working condition) it is sufficient to puncture or remove the protective covering.
To manufacture the device described, the following method can advantageously be used:
The blanks are formed from a rectilinear strip 4, each edge of which is lined with absorbent material 3 which is made to adhere by gluing; the strip is then notched on its edges so as to separate the ends of the future clamps while keeping them joined to each other by the middle part Û; the blanks thus formed are arched in the form of arcs along this middle part 5 and their ends are dipped in a volatile medicinal product so as to impregnate the absorbent material 3;
the pads thus formed and soaked are coated with at least one airtight layer by soaking in a bath of the coating material. The clamps which are still joined by the middle part 5 are then separated from each other by sectioning this middle part in the extension of the notches already made on the edges, so as to obtain the device shown in FIG. 1.
In the second embodiment (fig. 2), the elastic support of the device also has the form of a small clamp having a curved middle part 1, but the ends of its branches 2 have the shape of spatulas whose sides are curved outwards so that the absorbent material 3 can be inserted therein.
To manufacture this second embodiment of the device, the following method is used:
The blanks are formed from lm rectilinear tube sectioned into sections 6 of the length of the blank; each blank is then notched at mid-heart and notched in its middle portion 7. It is then arched in an arch in a direction such that the convex sides 2 of its ends face each other. Its ends are lined with absorbent material 3 which is impregnated by soaking in a volatile medieamentous product. The pads thus formed and soaked are coated with at least one airtight layer by soaking in a bath of the coating material.
The particular shape given to these pliers ensures that they are securely held in place, the circular part 1 being placed on the kind of bead which ends the nasal septum, and this without compressing this bead, which means that the device does not cause any discomfort to the nasal septum. the user.
The protective coverings integral with the apatnles 2 can be perforated beforehand. In this case, the perforations can be closed by soaking the spatuIes and protective coverings attached thereto in a material capable of liquefying after introduction of the device into the nose. This filling can also be obtained by brushing. The number and size of the perforations depend on the desired evaporation time. The sealing of the perforations can also be achieved by an adhesive element which is removed when using the device.
It is obvious that the use of the device is not limited to the treatment of affections of the respiratory tract; it can advantageously be used for a preventive purpose.
