Description
Process for spraying metals. The present invention relates to a method for spraying metals and at the same time welding the sprayed-on Me tallteilchen among themselves and with the base using additional electrical energy.
The known metal spraying processes have the disadvantage that the layers produced with them are composed of individual particles of the most varied of sizes, which are often only connected to each other and to their base through surface contact. Such a structure has only insufficient strength and density, is spongy and inhomogeneous and can be removed again from its base relatively easily.
In addition, the performance of the known metal spraying processes, which ultimately derive their energy from the exothermic reaction of burning gases, is insufficient and results in a yield that is neither quantitatively nor qualitatively satisfactory, especially with higher melting metals.
The disadvantages mentioned can be eliminated in the process according to the invention in that an electrical discharge is generated in the space between the tip of the metal wire to be sprayed and the surface of the workpiece to be sprayed, in such a way that the wire tip surface and the surface to be sprayed through the discharge the current path between them is additionally heated, the melting and atomization of the metal wire intensified and accelerated and the metal particles thrown onto the workpiece are welded under themselves and with the surface to be sprayed.
The metal spraying with burning Ga sen, which are used for melting, atomizing and spraying a metal onto a surface, an electrical discharge is used in the inventive method to increase the melting energy and to weld the metal particles sprayed onto the surface below and below superimposed with the surface to be sprayed. Both heat sources jointly fulfill their task according to the invention.
For this purpose, both direct current, for example the current of a direct current dynamo, or alternating current, e.g. B. use the current of a transformer.
The exothermic reaction of the chemical combustion process causes the metal wire tip to melt or glow and electrons to be released. As a result of the presence of these free electrons, the combustion gases become conductive, so that by increasing the voltage of the electric field generated in the space between the wire tip and the surface to be sprayed, the self-permanent discharge can be initiated up to the spark potential.
However, it is not advisable to increase the voltage of this circuit so much; Rather, it has proven to be useful to superimpose a second circuit on this main circuit of high amperage and relatively low voltage, the task of which is to initiate the independent conduction and discharge of the main circuit and to continuously maintain additional energies for ionization and for To give off an increase in the positive heat tone.
A high-frequency alternating current, for example, is suitable for this second circuit. Both the main circuit and this second circuit can be connected on the one hand to the wire tip and on the other hand to the surface to be sprayed. The second circuit can also be connected on one or both sides with other electrodes in the space between the wire tip and the surface to be sprayed. The desired performance or quality of the spray coatings to be produced can. can also only be controlled with the second circuit.
The superimposed circuit is advantageous on the one hand to the wire tip, on the other hand connected to a counter electrode which is arranged in the space between the wire tip and the surface to be sprayed. The counter electrode is expediently ring-shaped and is concentric to the axis of the spray jet. It can also consist of tips, at least one tip being located in the space of the spray jet.
In addition, it has proven to be useful in special cases to arrange ignition sparks from spark plugs or similar arcs in the fuel gases or in the spray jet, which in turn supply additional energies.
In addition to the electrons, which, as mentioned, are released in the combustion reaction, the electrical discharge of the circuits mentioned causes the creation of additional free electrons through impact ionization. As a result of the bombardment of these electrons and ions, the wire tip, the surface to be sprayed and the current path in between experience a very strong, additional heating beyond the heating caused by the chemical combustion process.
The summation of this amount of heat only allows the melting of any quality metal wire, including high melting point, with great power, its finest atomization and the welding of the sprayed metal particles under themselves and with the surface to be coated.
The wire feed and the current intensity of the electrical discharge are expediently automatically mutually coordinated in that the drive motor of the wire feed mechanism is controlled by the current strength of the electrical discharge using a special electrical control mechanism.
The ionization of the gases can also be increased by adding ionizing substances to the fuel gases or by using a sheathed metal wire or core wire whose sheathing or inner core contains ionizing substances. Compounds of the alkali and alkaline earth metals, for example, can serve as ionizing substances. It can also be arranged on the spray gun special elements that are brought to glow and electron emission during operation, for example, the tip and the jacket of the jet nozzle for the fuel gases.
Such elements can also be coated with substances for glowing electrical emission, for example with barium oxide.
The gases of the gun beam can also be irradiated for the purpose of additional ionization with ionizing rays, for example with ultraviolet rays.
In order to further facilitate the welding of the sprayed-on metal particles to one another and to the surface to be sprayed and to give the sprayed-on layers special properties, it has proven to be useful to add alloying substances to the metal spray jet, in which, for example, the spray wire is sheathed or with a vein is provided which contains substances such as metal carbonyls such as iron carbonyl.
It has also been shown that the welding of the particles to one another and to the surface to be sprayed is improved by adding oxygen-removing substances. Such substances, for example ferrotitanium aluminum, are expediently added to a sheathing or to the inner core of the wire.
