Description
Method of making a paint remover. The paint strippers previously used for stripping nitrocellulose or synthetic resin-based paints as well as chlorinated rubber paints have the disadvantage that the treated area had to be treated with petrol or other thinners after stripping.
The invention now turns to the task of procuring a paint remover for the paints mentioned above that not only completely dissolves the paints mentioned above, but also makes rewashing with gasoline or thinners superfluous by washing the stripped surface with water.
The process for the preparation of the stripping agent according to the invention is characterized in that in a mixture of 300-1000 parts by weight of acetone, 600-800 parts by weight of methyl acetate, 400-600 parts by weight of triethylethylene, 500-700 parts by weight of 1,2- Dichloroethane and 800-1000 parts by weight of mesityloxyd 124-205 parts by weight of nitrocellulose dissolves,
161-258 parts by weight of paraffin and 258-430 parts by weight of Turkish red oil are added to this solution and then a liquid mixture made from 182-749 parts by weight of starch, water and sodium hydroxide is added to this mixture.
As has been shown, this means saponifies the stripped residues, and the surface can then be easily cleaned with water. The product is practically grease-free and does not leave any residues that would impair the subsequent coating; it is also acid-free and does not attack brushes or hands.
A preferred product can be obtained according to the following example: I. 900 g of acetone, 700 g of methyl acetate, 500 g of trichlorethylene, 600 g of 1,2-dichloroethane and 900 g of mesityl oxide are mixed together and 144-180 g of nitrocellulose are dissolved in this mixture.
II. 187-227 g of paraffin (white) are melted, mixed with mixture I at about 50 ° C. and 299-378 g of Turkish red oil, which acts as an emulsifier, is added while it is still warm.
In the meantime, 424-440 g of starch with 85-88 g of water have been made up and so much 50% sodium hydroxide solution has been added until the mixture becomes thick.
The two mixtures are then stirred together and allowed to cool while stirring.
