Process for facilitating any operation to carried out on the outer coil of a watch balance spring and device for setting in </ B> work of this process the watch hairspring must generally be lengthened by cutting part of the outer coil. Apart from conventional means such as shears or other cutting instruments, machines have already been proposed in which the hairspring is held on an anvil, a device making it possible to pinch the hairspring by a horizontal movement before cutting it.
The outer coil being located at a very short distance from the neighboring coil, the cutting tool must be extremely thin and guided with great precision, if one wishes to avoid reaching the coil adjacent to the coil to be cut.
Semi-automatic ramming machines were then proposed. in which the eyebolt is automatically placed in a determined position, while the hairspring is pinched, near the eyebolt, thus preventing any slipping, when driving out the pin, this system allowing lateral displacement of all the turns .
Such machines, previously adjusted, and usable for a very specific job, do not leave the freedom to perform any work on the balance spring and require very fine and very precise tooling.
The present invention relates to a method making it possible to temporarily increase the distance separating the outer turn from the neighboring turn, so as to facilitate not only the cutting but any operation to be carried out on the outer turn, such as fixing to the eyebolt, forming or bending. .
Its object is a process for facilitating any operation to be carried out on the outer turn of a watch balance spring, characterized in that. the hairspring being placed on a support and retained by its inner end. the turns located on the side opposite to the location of the outer turn where it is desired to perform said operation are pressed together against the center, so as to increase the spacing of the turns on the other side.
The invention also relates to a device for implementing this method, characterized in that it comprises a frame in which is mounted a rotating spindle for holding the inner end of the hairspring and a horizontal slide moving in the direction of the spindle and carrying a vertical finger intended to press the turns of the hairspring.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of a device for cutting the outer end of a hairspring.
Fig. 1 shows an elevational view of the device.
Fig. 2 shows a plan view. Fig. 3 represents the distorted hairspring.
The cutting process is illustrated in fig. 3 which represents a hairspring 1 fixed by its inner end to a pin 2, the turns of the hairspring being pressed together by a finger 3 against the pin 2, respectively against the ferrule if the hairspring is already spiraled, at at least one point approximately opposite to the point of the outer turn that it is desired to cut. The space between the outer coil and the neighboring coil increases so that it is easier to cut it without risking to dye the neighboring coil.
The device used for this purpose comprises a frame 4 carrying a hard metal anvil 5 having a slot 6 for the passage of the finger 3 and a slot 7 for the passage of the knife 8, as well as lines 9 for the marking of the finger. spiral. The center of the anvil is occupied by a spindle 10 mounted rotativernent and can be driven in rotation by a knurled chicken 11 projecting the frame and connected to the spindle by a conveyor belt 12. The spindle ends, in its upper part. higher, by a conical part intended to carry the ferrule 13. It is however possible to use a hollow conical pin having a slot in which the inner end of the non-ferrule hairspring can be directly engaged.
The finger 3 is mounted on a horizontal slide 14 operable by a knurled button 15. As for the knife 8, it is mounted on a vertical slide 16 operable by a knurled button 17, the slides 18 and 19 of the slider 16 being themselves mounted, through the intermediary of a part 20, on a horizontal slider 21, the stroke of which is limited by a stop 22. The knife has an oblique edge in which a vertical notch, the bottom of which constitutes the actual blade of the knife, the hairspring being hand held laterally during cutting by the sides of the notch.
Instead of moving the finger against the spindle, it is of course possible to move the spindle against a fixed stop.
