Blitzlichtlampe.

Flash lamp. The invention relates to a flash lamp, the closed bulb of which contains oxygen gas and an actinic reacting material therewith, and aims to accelerate the actinic reaction.
According to the invention, the bulb of such a flashlight lamp contains a gas filling which contains a combustible auxiliary gas that accelerates the actinic reaction and has a heat of combustion of at least 250 kcal / mol.
An auxiliary gas accelerating the actinic reaction according to the invention is understood here to mean a gas which, when used in an otherwise identical flashlight, results in faster actinic combustion than if the gas filling does not contain the auxiliary gas.
The use of a combustible auxiliary gas with a heat of combustion of at least 250 kealjmol. is a simple tool to get a quick actinic reaction of a flashlight lamp of the type in question.
The acceleration of the actinic reaction is influenced by the type of auxiliary gas and its concentration in the gas filling. Gases with high combustion heat will generally cause considerable acceleration in low concentrations.
Certain gases with a relatively low heat of combustion, for example with a heat of combustion less than 410 kcal (mol), will have to be used in a relatively high concentration, for example 10 percent by volume or more of the gas filling, in order to accelerate the reaction of any practical importance to achieve., for example ethyl alcohol, ethyl iodide, dichloroethane. Certain gases with a relatively low heat of combustion even cause no or almost no acceleration of the actinic reaction,
for example ethylamine (heat of combustion 408 kcal / mol), ethyl formate (heat of combustion 392 kcal.Imol) and ethylene (heat of combustion 332 kcal mol).
The limit of the heat of combustion of 250 kcal / mol specified according to the invention is based on the fact that below this limit no gas is considered for the formation of the mixture accelerating the actinic reaction, while numerous suitable gases can be found above this limit.
With regard to the pressure of the gas filling, which is higher due to the presence of an auxiliary gas than when only oxygen is used in an otherwise identical flashlight. It is important not to use too high a concentration of the auxiliary gas, otherwise the risk of the piston bursting during combustion would increase. An auxiliary gas is thus preferably used which, in a low concentration, for example in a concentration less than 10 percent by volume of the gas filling, effects the intended acceleration of the actinic reaction.
Furthermore, the extent to which an auxiliary gas according to the invention has an accelerating effect is influenced by the speed of combustion of the actinically reacting material, which is noticeable in the maximum time of the flash. The term 3aximal time is understood here to mean the time which elapses between the point in time at which contact is made and the point in time ir, when the light intensity has reached the maximum value.
The slower the actinic reacting material reacts with oxygen in a flashlight lamp, i.e. the longer the maximum time the flashlight lamp has, the greater the number of options for selection from auxiliary gases with a heat of combustion of more than 250 kcal / mol, with which a noticeable , accelerating effect can be achieved. In the case of a flash lamp with a rapid reaction between the actinic reacting material and oxygen, there is a more limited number of choices of auxiliary gases.
The invention can advantageously be used with relatively coarsely distributed material which reactinically reacts slowly with oxygen and which is generally cheaper than finely dimensioned, actinically reacting material.
For example, it was found in a certain flash lamp containing actinically reactive material with a maximum flash time of -10 milliseconds that was too long for normal photographic applications that this maximum time was shortened to around 20 milliseconds when the invention was applied . can be.
The acceleration of the actinic reactions also has the effect of reducing the 50% flash time, below which the duration between the time
in which the light intensity has increased to 50% of the achievable maximum value, and the point in time is understood when the light intensity has decreased again to 50% of the maximum value.
A short 50% flash time is advantageous if a sharp image is to be produced in photographic recordings of a moving object by only exposing the object for a particularly short time.
Auxiliary gases particularly suitable for use in a flashlight plane according to the invention are, for example, n-butyl chloride, benzene, diethyl ether and gas mixtures, one of which consists essentially of butanes and butenes and the other essentially of propane. The former of these glass mixtures is particularly suitable because a small amount of it is able to accelerate the actinic reaction to a considerable extent.
In addition, the substances used as auxiliary gas must, if they should be liquid at the use temperature, have a vapor voltage that enables use in the desired gas concentration.
When using the invention, an ignition paste is not required in certain cases if a sufficient amount of the auxiliary gas is present because its combustion can transmit the ignition to the actinically reacting material through an electric filament.
If the invention is used in a flashlight lamp with aluminum or an aluminum inagnesium alloy as the actinic reacting material, the disadvantage may arise that the light effect is too low. This disadvantage can be remedied to a considerable extent if zirconium is used as an actinic material.
Zirconium has the advantage that the amount of oxygen to be used is smaller than that which is used for aluminum or an aluminum-magnesium alloy to generate the same amount of light. In this case, however, the amount of zirconium by weight is significantly greater, about (read twice the amount of aluminum or scrap metal -'- #Iagnesium alloy that produces the same amount of light.
To explain the invention in more detail, Table I shows the influence of various auxiliary gases on a particular flash lamp, the bulb of which is filled with oxygen and an actinic material consisting of an aluminum-magnesium alloy.
From Table II it can be seen that when zirconium is used as an actinically reacting material, an acceleration of the actinic reaction according to the invention does not lead to a reduction in the amount of energy produced.
For the sake of completeness, the examples in Table 1 also indicate that most gases have a somewhat delayed effect if they are added in too low a concentration.
