Double-acting pump with two diaphragms. The present invention relates to a double-acting pump with two diaphragms, in which the motor members operate exclusively under the motor effect of a pressurized fluid.
There are known double-acting reciprocating pumps with diaphragms, in which the diaphragms are connected by a rigid rod driven in a reciprocating movement using an appropriate mechanical member such as a crank wedged on. an axis carried by the body of the pump between the two pistons and receiving an oscillating movement by an external control crank. In such pumps, the reciprocating movement imparted to the diaphragms places each of the latter alternately in the suction and discharge position while the other is placed in the discharge and suction position.
Although being a simple construction allowing its use to raise liquids of thick consistency, or loaded (deposits such as, for example, muddy water, without risk of damaging the control member placed between the diaphragms , one cannot think of using such a pump by immersing it in the liquid to be pumped unless a special device is provided for driving the crank capable of resisting the possible attack of said liquid.
A diaphragm pump has also been proposed, the diaphragm of which is controlled by the pulsation of a pressurized fluid, which pulsation is directly controlled by a member integral with the diaphragm and which controls the admission of pressurized fluid when the diaphragm is in position. suction and discharge of the pressurized fluid by suction when the diaphragm is in the discharge position.
In these automatic pumps, the pressurized fluid distributor consists of a slide movable in a piston and provided with pressurized fluid inlet and suction ports controlling the pulsating movement of the diaphragm.
Although having on the pump, as recalled above, the advantage of not requiring any external control, these automatic pumps have the disadvantage which lies in the addition to the distributor of an appropriate source of suction and of all its components. annexes.
The double-acting pump with two diaphragms controlled by pressurized fluid, conforming to. the. The object of the present invention is to obviate the drawbacks of the pumps recalled above and it is particularly suitable for being used for raising a liquid, in particular which can be consumed either by simple repulsion, or by delivery after suction, or by compressing a low and medium pressure gas, in particular:
- when it comes to pumping the necessary water from deep wells. consumption: - when it comes to pumping special liquids (hydrocarbons, wine, etc.) which require handling away from contact with air: - when it comes to compressing gases that it is necessary to preserve any soiling during the compression operations.
It is characterized in that its two diaphragms are connected by a rigid member and that it comprises a pressurized fluid distributor disposed between the two diaphragms and controlled by the reciprocating movement of the rigid connection, the arrangement being such that the displacement one of the diaphragms in its extreme discharge position puts the distributor in the position of supplying pressurized fluid to the second diaphragm and vice versa.
According to one embodiment of this pump, the control of the distributor by the reciprocating movement of the rigid connection is effected by means of elastic means arranged between the distributor and this connection and deformed by the movement, of the latter, of in such a way that the reverse movement of the distributor, after part of the delivery movement of each diaphragm, is caused first by the relaxation of the working fluid acting on the diaphragm in delivery movement and then by the expansion of the means elastic bands. These elastic means are springs.
According to a particular embodiment, the pump will include a median chamber containing the distributor and, on either side of the latter, a pumping chamber in each of which the diaphragm moves, with each of these chambers being associated a suction chamber, a discharge chamber, a suction valve controlling the admission of liquid (the suction chamber to the corresponding pumping chamber and a discharge valve controlling the discharge of the latter chamber in the discharge chamber.
The pumping chambers according to this same embodiment each have, in section, a lenticular shape constituted by two spherical caps assembled by their annular edges and enclosing the peripheral edge of the movable diaphragm in this chamber, the seats of the suction valves and for delivery of the liquid to be pumped being provided in the body of the spherical cap furthest from the middle chamber, while in the body of the spherical cap closest to the latter is provided a pressure chamber with the inner wall provided holes for the passage of pressurized fluid.
Finally, according to this same embodiment, the distributor is constituted by a four-way valve connected, on the one hand, to the two pressure chambers, and, on the other hand, to a pressurized fluid reservoir as well. than to the atmosphere, the rotor of said distributor being controlled by the reciprocating movement of the rigid rod connecting the two diaphragms.
By way of example, an embodiment of the pump according to the invention has been described below and shown in the accompanying drawing, as well as variants of the distributor.
Fig. 1 shows said embodiment in axial section.
Figs. ? and 3 show two other embodiments of the distributor controlled by the reciprocating movement of the connecting rod of the diaphragms.
As can be seen in your fig. 1, the generally cylindrical pump comprises a sealed middle chamber 1 containing the distributor and its associated members, pumping chambers 2 and 3 symmetrical with respect to the median plane, the trace of which is indicated by the line @ tz-m ', liquid intake chambers 4 and 4 ', liquid delivery chambers: 5 and 5' connected by a tubular connector 6, la. bedroom :
) being provided with a connector 7 to which the delivery pipe (not shown) is screwed. Each intake chamber 4 and -l 'is provided with a number of holes 8 through which the liquid to be pumped enters the pump when it is submerged, said chambers 4 and 4' can moreover be made as the chambers 5 and :-) ', in dual cases (not shown) they would be connected by a connector similar to that 7 and to which a strainer would be connected.
The pumping chamber 2 is constituted by two spherical caps 9 and 10 comprising peripheral edges 11 and 12 assembled by bolts 13 and enclosing the peripheral edge of the diaphragm 15 movable in the chamber, the cap 10 of which comprises the seat 16 d 'a liquid inlet valve 17 subjected in the direction of the opening to the action of a spring 18 as well as the seat 19 of a discharge valve 20 opening towards the discharge chamber 5' against the 'action of a spring 21, the chambers 1' and 5 'being separated by a sealed partition 22.
In the body (the spherical cap 9 with a radius of curvature greater than that (the ca lotte 10 is provided with a pressure chamber 23 communicating, on the one hand, through the holes 24 of its wall 2 5 with the interior of chamber 2 and, on the other hand, as will be described below, with the distributor.
The organization of chambers 3, 4 and 5 is identical to that of chambers 2, 4 'and 5', identical elements being designated by the same reference numerals to which indices have been added.
In the diaphragms 15 and 15 'are respectively embedded metal discs 26 and 26' comprising a threaded appendage 27 and 27 ', in which is screwed a rigid rod 28 re connecting said diaphragms, the rod 28 passing through holes provided in the caps 9 and 9 'and lined with stamped leathers 29, 29' ensuring sufficient sealing to the passage of the rod 28 through the caps 9 and 9 '.
On the rod 28, perpendicularly to its axis is mounted a grooved roller 30 co operating with a cam 31 provided in a metal plate 32 freely mounted on the axis 33 of a distributor 34 whose rotor 35 (indicated in dotted lines) is integral in rotation with a quadrangular cam 38 mounted on the shaft 33 and carrying a lug 36 which is housed in a circular groove 37 of said plate 32. The quadrangular cam 38, consisting of a square plate with rounded tops and sides concave, plays between the branches of a spring 39 held in place using a collar 40 mounted on the pipe 41, and it is driven with the rotor which it is secured by the plate 32 thanks to the lug 36 .
The distributor 34 is constituted by a four-way valve connected by the fittings 42 and 42 'respectively to the pressure chambers 23 and 23' and by the fittings 43 and 44 respectively to the pipe 45 leading to a source of pressurized control fluid and to pipe 41 leading to the atmosphere.
There are therefore two distinct circuits in this pump: 1 The circuit of the liquid to be pumped sucked in by the valves 17, 17 'and discharged by the valves 20, 20'.
2 The circuit of the driving fluid, such as compressed air, coming from a suitable source not shown, brought by the fitting 45, distributed by the fittings 42, 42 'to the chambers 23, 23' and discharged by the fitting 41 .
The operation of the pump is as follows: If we assume that the pump is submerged in the liquid to be pumped and the members in their positions shown, the diaphragms being in their high position, the diaphragm 15 is at the end of delivery and the -diaphragm 15 'at the end of liquid intake.
In this position of the diaphragms 15 and 15 ', the rotor is in the position shown, bringing. the pressurized fluid in the chamber 23 'and. through holes 2-I 'on diaphragm 15', chambers 23 and 2 of diaphragm 15 being connected to the atmosphere through pipe 41.
The pressurized fluid acts on the diaphragm 15 'which it displaces downwards and the liquid contained in the chamber 3 escapes through the discharge valve 20' separated from its seat 19 'and enters the discharge chamber. 5 from where it is evacuated by the tubular connector 6 and the delivery pipe (not shown) attached to the connector 7.
As the diaphragm 15 'moves towards its lower position, it drives, via the connecting rod 28, the diaphragm 15 which, leaving the spherical cap 10, allows the opening of the valve. intake 1.7 under the effect of spring 18 and sucks liquid from chamber 4 '. While the liquid contained in chamber 3 is being discharged, liquid is admitted into chamber 2.
During the downward movement of the connecting rod 28, by the plate 26 ', and of the diaphragm 15, by the plate 26, the roller 30 moves downwards, but leaves the cam 31 in its high position to come up against against the hollow 16 of the latter. During its subsequent downward movement, the wheel 30 drives the cam 31, so that the plate 32 rotates around the axis 33 of the distributor first without moving the quadrangular cam 38. This movement of the plate 32 continues without acting on the qua drangular cam and on the rotor 35 of the distributor until midway through the diaphragms 15 and 15 'in their respective chambers.
From this moment, the quadrangular cam 38 is driven by the plate 32, the bottom of the circular groove 37 of which pushes the lug 36. The quadrangular cam 38 is therefore driven in clockwise rotation. , and as it is so lidaire of the rotor 35, the latter rotates at the same time as this cam. The rotation of the latter and of the rotor takes place against the action of the springs 39, so that the admission of the pressurized fluid into the pressure chamber 23 'is gradually reduced.
This admission ceases completely when said rotor has reached its vertical position, and to this position of the rotor corresponds the position of the quadrangular cam 38, in which one of its diagonals is perpendicular to the two leaf springs 39. This position sition is a dead position, and due to the high frictional forces which exist between the springs and the quadrangular cam, the latter tends to keep its dead position. Rotor reversal may not occur. No motor fluid supply can take place.
The dead point is overcome by the expansion of the working fluid previously brought above the diaphragm 15 '. In fact, this driving fluid expands above this diaphragm which it pushes downwards, although at this moment the supply of driving fluid is completely stopped. As the diaphragm 15 'is pushed downwards, it drives the rod 28 and the latter causes, through the intermediary of the cam 32, a slight rotation of the quadrangular cam beyond the dead center, this cam driving the rotor 35.
As soon as the cam 38 has passed its neutral point, it turns abruptly by 45 in the direction of clockwise, under the effect of the branches of the spring 39, by driving the rotor which will therefore have turned 90 in total. relative to its position of FIG. 1. In this new position, the chamber 23 'is to the atmosphere and the chamber 23 connected to the source of pressurized fluid, so that the assembly of the two diaphragms 15, 15' moves upwards, producing the pressure. delivery through the valve 20 of the liquid previously admitted to the pumping chamber and the admission through the valve 17 ', either by suction or by hydrostatic pressure, when the pump is immersed, of the liquid in the pumping chamber 3,
the ro tor being brought as above to its position shown in dotted lines, so that the operation can continue.
In the case where the pump which has just been described is intended to work outside the liquid to be pumped, the two intake chambers 4 and 4 'are connected to form only one to which is connected a led. inlet (not shown) immersed in the liquid to be pumped.
A simpler embodiment <the four-way valve control mechanism 4'_ ', -12', -l :; and 44 is shown in, FIG. '_', in which the connecting rod 28 and its barley wheel 30 have also been represented.
According to this figure, the control mechanism is constituted by a cam 76 with groove -17, freely mounted on the axis 33 of the rotor 35, cooperating with the wheel.
30 and dragged by it during the up and down movement of the link rod '? 8. Two coil springs 5-1 and 55, adjustable and of the same force are fixed, on the one hand, at an equal distance from the axis of the cam 76 and, on the other hand, to a lug 48 carried by a le screw 49 solicaire of the rotor 35, the spring tension being adjusted by adjusting the lugs 50 and 51 in the slides 52 and 53.
In the positions of the members shown in FIG. 2, the rod 28 being assumed to be in its high position, the upper diaphragm is at the end of the delivery stroke and the lower diaphragm at the end of the liquid intake stroke, so that the connector 43 is connected to the key source. fluid under pressure and raceord 44 to atmosphere.
The pressurized fluid then acting on the lower diaphragm, the latter is moved downwards, causing, as has been described in FIG. 1, the connecting rod 28 and, through it, the upper diaphragm.
The caster 30, also moved downwards, rotates the cam 76 around the axis 33 of the dispenser in a clockwise direction. The two springs 54 and 55 first tension unequally, then their tension becomes equal when the axis of symmetry 00 'of the cam 76 is placed on the alignment pin 48-axis 33.
In this position, the lug 48 which is biased downwardly by the spring 55 from the passage of the longitudinal axis of said spring beyond the alignment of the lug 48 with the axis 33, is retained. in its position by the spring 54 which remains below said alignment; the angle of traction (lug 51-lug 48-axis 33) of the spring 55 is equal to the retaining angle (lug 50-lug 48-axis 33) of the spring 54. The valve control device has thus reached a unstable equi free position.
The rod 28 continuing its downward movement, the tension of the spring 55 decreases slightly, while its angle of traction (lug 51 - lug 48 - axis 33) increases, but the tension of the spring 54 increases slightly, while its angle retainer (lug 50 - lug 48 - pin 33) decreases.
Keeping the lug 48 in place continues until there is a break in balance for the benefit of the spring 55. This breakage occurs at the latest when the longitudinal axis of the retarder spring 54 passes through it. also beyond the alignment of the lug 48 with the axis 33. At this time, the lug 48, no longer being retained by the spring 54, the retaining angle of which is reduced to zero, moves under the effect of the spring 55 first, then under the combined effect of the two springs 54 and 55, when the lug 48, by its displacement, gives. the angle (lug 50 - lug 48 axis 33) a sufficient traction value.
The lug 48, already in motion, is thus suddenly brought into position 48 ', driving the rotor in the position which corresponds to the admission of the pressurized fluid under the upper diaphragm and to the exhaust. of the space above the lower diaphragm.
The upper diaphragm is moved upward, causing the. ti-e of connection 28 of which. the roulette wheel will move. the. cam 46 upwards to bring, as described above, the ro tor to its. initial position, the operation of the rotor control device being the same as that which has just been described, with the exception that the spring 55 becomes retarder.
Fig. 3 schematically shows another embodiment of the control device for the rotor 35 of the four-way distributor.
This rotor control device consists of a coil spring 56 fixed by one of its ends to. a lug. 57 integral with the rotor 35 and movable in a circular groove 58 formed in the cover 59 of the distributor, the other -extreme end of said spring being.
fixed to one end of a lever 60 movable around an axis 61 integral with the rod 28, and the other end of which is provided with a roller 62 adapted to roll, at the end of each eourse of the rod 28, on a flat part 63-63 'provided on the brackets 64 and 64' screwed on the spherical caps 9 and 9 '(see also fig. 1) of the pumping chambers 2 and 3.
When the rotor of the distributor is in the position which corresponds to that 57 of the er got in the groove 58, the compressed air is admitted through the fittings 43 and 42 on the upper diaphragm, the lower diaphragm being in the air free by the couplings 42 'and 44. Under these conditions, the rod 28 is in its low position, as is also the spring 56', the lever 60 'and the roller 62', and it begins its upward stroke since it is driven by the upper diaphragm.
During this upward stroke, the roller 62 'rolls on the flat part 63' until the lever 60 ', driven upwards by the rod 28 and biased by the spring 56', pivots around its axis 61 'until 'so that it comes into alignment with the axis of the coil spring 56. This alignment remains until the axis of the spring 56' passes through the horizontal.
From this moment, the rod 28 continuing its upward movement, the spring is stretched and the lever is pivoted around (its axis 61 ', in the anti-clockwise direction, up to the axis of the lever. bead spring 56 ', in the alignment of which is brought the lever 60' whose roller is in the attack position (the flat part 63 of the upper caliper 64.
D) as soon as the axis of the spring 56 'passes beyond (the line joining the center of the lug a7 to the center of the distributor, the roller 62' begins to roll on the flat 63 and pulls it 28. in its upward movement brings the lever to its position 60, perpendicular to the axis of the rod.The angle formed by the ale of the coil coming at 56 with the straight line joining the center of the pin 57 to the center of the distributor is suddenly increased, so that the roller 57 passes into position 57 ', in which the rotor 35 allows the admission of the pressurized fluid on the lower diapbragm and the venting of the space below the upper diaphragm; rod 28 begins to move downward and when roller 62 comes to 62 'the rotor is returned to its initial position.
