Safety device for artillery projectile. The artillery projectile rockets are sometimes fitted with a tempering device intended to regulate the deflagration in relation to the percussion, in order to allow the projectile to penetrate the target. Since the deflagration delay is not always desirable, it is necessary for the device to also allow the explosion to be instantaneous.
The present invention achieves these conditions by insuring the projectile against an explosion caused by an untimely ignition of the primer. It relates to a safety device for an artillery projectile, allowing the instantaneity and delay of the deflagration, a device in which the deflagration is transmitted from the primer to the charge by the conduit that the body of the rocket presents.
According to the invention, this device is characterized in that the body of the rocket has a housing of cylindrical shape and inter cepting said duct, which housing contains a shutter of the same section as it and having a transverse hole containing a pyrotechnic charge. , in that it comprises means comprising a spring and intended, when the projectile is not in operation, to maintain the shutter in an axial position such as said. hole is located in a passing plane, through the duct. and. transversely with respect to the latter, means for being able to pivot the shutter dam housing. and means for axially immobilizing the shutter when it has been rotated so that said hole is.
in the extension of the duct.
The drawing represents, by way of example; two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Fig. 1 shows in section a first embodiment.
FIG 2 is a view of a detail of this first embodiment.
Fig. 3 shows in section a second embodiment.
Fig. 4 shows a detail of this. second embodiment.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 1. and 2, the rocket body 1 has a housing '.: Intercepting a conduit 3 and, enclosing a shutter 4. The shutter is. pierced with a hole 5 filled with a pyrotechnic delay charge. The shutter is held by a spring. 6 which rests on a ring 7 in order to ensure the support of the shutter at the bottom of its housing. The shutter can. be rotated from the outside thanks to the presence at its outer end of a groove in which the screwdriver can be inserted.
This end could also have a polygonal shape so as to be able to be operated by a key. A pin 8 is engaged in a groove of the shutter. The latter has a cross section 9 intended to prevent any axial displacement of the shutter and an axial section 10 allowing, on the contrary, such displacement. The fi-. 2 as a cross section (the shutter shows the relative arrangement of the groove and the hole; 5.
The operation of the device is as follows: In storage, the shutter is placed in the position shown, so that the duct is closed, which prohibits. any ignition of the charge by inteinpestivc explosion of the primer.
When the projectile is fired with the shutter in this position, the longitudinal acceleration titi projectile presses the shutter against the housing preventing axial displacement of the shutter, which tends to occur under the effect of the force. centri- the stem.
Ati exit the muzzle, the longitudinal acceleration ceases, and. the shutter moves axially, thus freeing the duct.
When the pieojectile is fired with the shutter rotated a quarter turn, the latter is immobilized axially and the hole 5 is aligned with the duct, which ensures the delayed firing of the charge of the projectile.
This device has two advantages, namely that in the setting position. instantaneous fire, it functions as a centrifugal safety device, and that in the delayed fire iris position, the inconveniences of the presence of an additional shutter to ensure the so-called trajectory safety are not incurred. , the latter being able for example to close again by reduction of the centrifugal force, hence the preponderance of the aeration of the spring, before the deflagration of the primer has been transmitted to the charge of the projectile.
In the embodiment shown in FIGS. 3 and 4, the shutter 11, having a hole 12 enclosing a pyrotechnic charge, can be pivoted by a control member 1.3 engaged in the housing and in which it can pivot. This member 13 has a groove 20 extending over a quarter of its periphery. In this groove 20 is engaged the end of a pin 14 ensuring the axial position of the control member 1.3 and limiting its angular displacement. This. or g ane has a diametrical opening in which is engaged a tab 15 that has the shutter.
This tongue has on one of its edges a recess 10 to allow the passage of the pin 14, in order to axially immobilize said. shutter for operation with delayed firing, and a hole 16 intended to come in the extension of the duct when the shutter is at the end of its travel, during operation with instantaneous firing. In the latter case, the organ (the order has been voted a quarter of a turn from the position shown in the drawing.
The pin 14 has passed through the groove 20 of the controller, thus releasing. the shutter. The spring 1 7, pressed on titi screw cap 21, is tiné, when the shutter is in the operating position with instantaneous fire damper, at. press the latter against the control organ until centrifugal force intervenes.
The length of the tongue 15 is such that when the shutter is at the end of its travel, it remains in engagement with the control member, so that a shock which would open. temporarily the shutter could not release these two parts from each other. This form (]. 'Execution has the advantage of making it possible to provide sealing means called housing, without compromising the mobility of the shutter. These sealing means consist of a ring 18 of material for seals, by example of hemp or other.
The pin 14 of a diameter phis large that the width of the opening t pulls diametral from the control member 13 prevents the latter from being ejected under the action of the. centrifugal force.
