Method and installation for tarring and graveling of roads. In a well-known technique for paving roads, hot tar is spread over the roadway, then gravel. It is advantageous that the gravel is spread over the tar while the latter is still hot, otherwise the incorporation of the gravel into the tar does not go well. It is also important that the time during which the road is covered with tar, without gravel, is as short as possible in order to avoid accidents due to skidding on the unpaved asphalt part.
These conditions are not fulfilled in the current practice, according to which the gravel is spread on the tar either by hand, by means of gravel wheelbarrows, or (in mechanically equipped companies) by means of trucks fitted with equipment. special expensive. In either case, the chipping device necessarily operates at a greater or lesser distance from the tarring machine, which gives rise to the drawbacks mentioned above.
The use of trucks with special gravel equipment gives rise to high operating costs resulting from the fact that, in order to ensure a normal output of a five-tonne tar machine, four or five gravel trucks (depending on possibilities of reloading said trucks during the emptying of tar). It follows the immobilization of a significant capital difficult to amortize and weighing heavily on the cost of labor, this drawback being found. worse when bad weather prevents work from being done.
Finally - and this is not the slightest defect in the aforementioned technique - trucks specially equipped for mechanical chipping must necessarily perform this work in reverse, which gives rise to additional maneuvers which are often painful and dangerous on roads. narrow paths.
The present invention relates to a method and an installation for the tar swimming and the graveling of roads overcoming with very great efficiency the drawbacks of the prior practice.
The process is characterized in that the tar is spread in front of the bituminous tar and the gravel is spread immediately afterwards, also in front of the tar machine, so that the gravel spreads over a fluid tar. and is coated with this tar.
The installation for the implementation of this process is characterized by the combination of a dump truck working forward and a tanker truck with a gravel spreader towed by the dump truck and in turn towing the truck. tank truck, the gravel spreader carrying a hopper fitted with a grit distribution mechanism and a Tar distribution ramp placed in front of said hopper, in the key direction of normal operation of the installation, the distribution ramp for the tar being fed from the tanker truck hitched up behind the gravel spreader and the hopper being fed with gravel from the dump truck.
In order to better understand the subject of the invention and to facilitate its implementation. will now be described, by way of example only and without any limiting nature of its scope, an embodiment of the installation shown in a completely schematic manner in the accompanying drawing, in which: FIG. 1 is a side elevational view of the entire installation.
Fig. 2 is a plan view. The installation shown is formed by the combination of the following elements: a dump truck 1 of ordinary construction, a chippings machine comprising a hopper 2 provided with a chippings distributor 3, mounted on wheels 1 so as to form a device. autonomous and hitched by all suitable means at 5, to the truck 1, a tar sprayer 6, of current construction, hitched at 7 to the grinder and provided, in the usual manner, with a compressor 8 making it possible to create a pressure in the cistern to ensure the flow of the gou dron, finally,
a pipe 9 connected in place of the usual distribution manifold of the tarring machine and leading to the front end of the frame of the latter where it is connected by a flexible pipe 10 to a pipe 11 formed in the frame of gr avilonneuse and connected to the ramp 12 for distribution of the tar on the roadway.
The mode of use of this installation is easily understood. The truck 1, traveling on the road to be paved in the normal direction of travel indicated by the arrow F, tows the gravel spreader and the tar machine. The tar, driven back under pressure, travels through the pipe 9, 10, 11 and is spread over the roadway via the ramp 12; immediately afterwards, the stack receives the gravel distributed by the device 3, the distance between the ramp 12 and the gravel distributor 3 being able to be made as small as desired.
The advantages provided by the installation shown are very important and easy to conceive. 1 The chipping is carried out in forward gear, which considerably facilitates the work and eliminates all the risks of accident arising from chipping in reverse.
2 The trucks used for the gravel are. of the common type; they do not include any special provision other than the adaptation of a coupling for the gravel gravel and they can, therefore, be used at any time. elsewhere for any work; their replacement in the event of failure is easy.
3 Thanks to the combination of the tar distribution ramp and the gravel immediately behind, the gravel is spread as soon as the binder has been spread; under these conditions, the binder has not had time to cool down and the tarring is carried out with maximum efficiency.
-1 The surface of the road having received the tar is immediately covered with gravel, the risk of an accident by skidding on a tarred but not graveled part is radically eliminated.
5 The displacement. of the whole assembly being provided by the eainion-tipper alone, an appreciable fuel economy is achieved.
6 A single gravel spreader, at a low cost, can, on the same site, occupy two tar spreaders.
7 The gravel spreader contains a reserve of gravel (its capacity being able to be, for example, of the order of 11, 'm3), which allows, without resulting in any interruption in the spreading of the gravel, to Momentarily lower the dump body to pass under bridges or under low branches.
