Process for the production of molded bodies from substances containing lignocellulose. Various processes for the production of fiberboard are already known in which the wood's own lignin is used as a binding agent without the aid of foreign binding agents. So was z. For example, it is proposed to heat cellulose-containing materials with direct or indirect steam until the lignin is changed in such a way that it is hot-pressed at a temperature of over 170 C, usually over 200 C and simultaneous pressure of at least 40 kg / em2 acts as a binding agent and thus enables the production of solid, water-repellent panels.
However, this requires prior boiling or steaming at around 200 to 270 C and a high pressure of up to 70 atmospheres, which conditions attack the lignocellulose extremely and the cellulose hy droly beers, which increases the mechanical strength and the yield of the plates interpreted be reduced.
Another suggestion is to heat the lignocellulose after moderate or stronger pre-steaming, defibering, etc. as a fleece in the hot press to over 180 C - mostly over 2001 C -, whereby the flow of the lignin is forced. This method also has the same disadvantages as the first-mentioned method.
Finally, it is already known to change the lignin without using plasticizers by breaking down alkali so that it can be used as a binding agent.
In paper technology, for example, the lignin is completely dissolved by alkali wood digestion and can largely be precipitated again from the so-called black liquor by acidification, but in all cases a loss of lignin occurs once it has been made water-soluble and hemicellulosic Accompanying substances are also precipitated, which impair the water resistance of the plate. A number of studies have been carried out on the alkaline treatment of lignocellulose, according to which the lignin should be dissolved completely, partially or only as little as possible.
In the latter process, only enough alkali is used that only the acids (acetic acid) that are formed are neutralized during the entire cooking process.
It has now been found that the intended molecular degradation of the lignin, which is necessary for the use as a binding agent, reduces the melting point from the melting point present in the natural state from approximately 170 ° C. to approximately 100 ° C. through a two-stage process can be achieved more safely than with a normal cooking process. The inventive method for the manufacture of shaped bodies from lignocellulose-containing substances is. characterized in that the lignin is degraded in at least two stages while maintaining its water insolubility.
is, whereby in the first stage the material to be digested is impregnated with a dilute solution of an alkaline digesting agent in such a way that after removing the excess solution, the impregnated material has a content of alkaline reacting compounds, calculated as NaOH, of 2 Has up to 7 Ge weight percent of the dry wood substance, and in a second stage by heating the material, the lignin is broken down to a water-insoluble, more easily meltable De polymerization product and the product obtained is fiberized, dehydrated and pressed into molded bodies.
The impregnation of the material to be digested in the first stage with a dilute solution of a digesting agent is expediently carried out with the use of internal pressure. He heats the goods in the second stage preferably by acting directly. possibly superheated steam.
In this two-stage process, when chemicals are absorbed, calculated on dry wood substance, in which a weak lignin solution would occur in the one-stage process, no lignin goes into solution, while a larger amount of the lignin present appears to be more plastic and therefore more binder-active State goes beyond the one-step process. The advantages of using the two-stage process are therefore above all increased yield, higher mechanical strength and water resistance of the finished fiberboard than with the one-stage process.
NaOH and other alkaline substances, such as Na2C03, Ca (OH) 2, can be used as digestion agents.
The water resistance of this plate in particular can now be improved if the two-stage process described is preceded by a pretreatment with pure water, known per se from the cellulose industry. In this case, the process can be carried out as follows: Before impregnation, the pre-shredded material to be digested is briefly boiled with a dilute solution of an alkaline reacting agent with water until a pH value between 5 and 6 is achieved.
After thorough washing, the goods will be. the diluted solution of an alkaline reacting agent in the impregnated and then treated with direct steam until the p11 value. to 7 to 6.5, in particular to the latter value, has fallen. As a result of the pretreatment described with water alone, part of the easily hydrolyzed beer hydrocellulose is made water-soluble and washed out. The subsequent Aufsehluss treatment has.
then only the function of depolymerizing the lignin without the process having to be continued until the hydrocelluloses, which deteriorate the water resistance of the finished panel, are dissolved. as these have already been removed by the pretreatment. This makes it possible to reduce the water absorption of the finished plate in 2-1 hours, as can be seen from Example 2, considerably, which is of great importance for the quality of the finished plate.
The treated material is then frayed after washing off and then treated with what ser-repellent agents such as oils, fats, waxes, resins, and adjusted to a pH of 4.5 to 5.5 by acidification. A normal dewatering machine is then used to dewater to form a fiber fleece, which is then hot-pressed.
The fiber mass produced according to one of the above-described embodiment fibers of the process, broken down, frayed, possibly provided with additives and predewatered, now tends to be more pronounced during the final pressing in the hot press at 160 to 170 C than a normal fiber board, which produced with the addition of artificial binders -, vird., for staining.
There are now various methods be known that avoid staining when hot pressing. In general, staining occurs when a certain pressing pressure is exceeded, the critical pressure being different from fabric to fabric. 1e higher the grind and thus.
the greasiness of the material, the lower the critical pressure. If a fiberboard is to be pressed at a higher pressure than the critical one, according to previous experience in the fiberboard industry, it is customary to avoid the formation of stains by applying strong pressure during the pressing for a certain time or more often in succession is lowered, creating panels who are bright and free of stains, but which have the major disadvantage that the strength.
the plate is greatly reduced by this press clearance.
The fiber fleece produced in the manner described can now be used as follows for the manufacture of hardboard, which are mainly free from fleeces of all kinds and have high strength: The fiber fleece is subjected to a pressure in the heating press that initially occurs for a short time , in which no deformation of the plate occurs, increased to 50 to 100% over the pressure.
is, in which the plate is to be finished pressed until the drainage of the water stops, whereupon the pressure is slowly lowered to the desired pressure ge and is held on this until it is completely dry and hardened. This pressing method differs from the previously usual one in principle in that the pressing pressure never drops below the desired density during the entire pressing process, thereby preventing the fibers from moving towards one another while the binding agent is setting.
Example 1: Alkali degradation of the lignin while maintaining its water insolubility in two-stage processes. 2000 kg of Buclien wood chips are placed in a 10 m3 digester, the digester is placed under a vacuum of 700 mm and then with a 2% strength Filled with caustic soda.
After a short exposure time, the lye is drained off again, with 3000 kg of lye remaining as a result of being absorbed by the wood. This amount can be varied to a large extent by the level of the vacuum and by possibly using an evacuation again after the lye has been drained off.
The consumption of solid NaOH is 80 kg, that is 4% of the dry wood weight. Now the impregnated material is heated by blowing in tensioned steam of 8 atmospheres and the cooker is held at 8 atmospheres for 2 hours, after which it is emptied normally.
The lignocellulose thus broken down can now be easily shredded and gives a fiber material that can be used for the production of moldings, in particular fiber boards, without the use of an additional binder.
After dewatering and pressing in a hot press, hardboard with the following properties is obtained:

The pretreated chips are now impregnated with a 3.5% NaOH solution, with an NaOH absorption of 3% - calculated on the dry wood substance. The impregnated chips are then steamed for two hours at 8 atm. The pH value after damping is 7.

The pressure is increased to 40 atmospheres within 3 minutes, some of the water being squeezed out. After completion of the pressing, that is after a further 2 minutes, the pressure is allowed to drop to 25 atmospheres for a further 3 minutes and this pressure is maintained for about 22 minutes, whereupon the evaporation of the water from the plate has ended.
The plate obtained is medium brown, free of stains and has a flexural strength of 650 kg / cm2.
