Die erfindungsgemässe Apparatur zur Durchführung des Verfahrens ist gekennzei.eh- net durch einen Ofen, eine Anzahl von gera den rohrförmigen Reaktionsgefässen, welche im genannten Ofen parallel angeordnet sind, wobei jedes Reaktionsgefäss aus einem Ein gangsteil mit einem grossen Verhältnis von Oberfläche zu Volumen und einem naehfol- g;
Fig. 2 zeigt den Ofen uni Schnitt.
Process and apparatus for the conversion of hydrocarbons by thermal treatment. The invention relates to. a process for the conversion of non-aromatic hydrocarbons:
substances, either on their own or mixed with. to change. Hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and olefin-containing (.rase) in two successive reaction stages, whereby the first stage is endothermic and requires a large amount of heat and the second stage is practically thermally neutral or only slightly endothermic and does not require any noteworthy supply of heat .
The hydrocarbons used as the starting material can be completely non-aromatic, or they can consist of a mixture of non-aromatic and aromatic hydrocarbons in which the components mentioned first predominate, such as B. Peti-oleum-Naphtha or Leuchtpetro- leum.
Hydrocarbon conversions of this type are in the British patent. No. 575383 be written and consist essentially of a Craek reaction and a subsequent aromatization reaction, which, however, can partially overlap. Cracking requires a large and rapid supply of heat; on the other hand, flavoring does not require any significant supply of heat.
As described in the aforementioned British patent, such conversions can be carried out by passing the hydrocarbon vapors through a first reaction chamber with a large surface-to-volume ratio suitable for the endothermic stage and then through a second reaction chamber for the thermal neutral or only slightly exothermic stage with a small surface-to-volume ratio.
The method according to the invention is characterized in that the hydrocarbons used as starting material are passed in the form of vapors through a number of parallel, straight tubular reaction vessels, each of which consists of an initial part with a large surface-to-volume ratio for the endo- thermal reaction stage and a subsequent part with a small ratio of surface area to volume for the thermally neutral or slightly endothermic reaction stage, said reaction vessels are all arranged in a common oven, said oven is heated at the entrance by a furnace,
The heating gases are passed through the furnace to the exhaust duct in the same direction as the hydrocarbon vapors through the reaction vessels, and a cooling layer of gases is supplied to the furnace approximately where the initial part of the reaction vessels is connected to the following part. becomes.
The furnace firing is expediently regulated in such a way that it supplies the heat required by the first, endothermic reaction stage and that the amount and temperature of the exhaust gases are such that they maintain the lower operating temperature required by the second reaction stage in the subsequent part of the furnace.
The cooling gas used can contain part of the furnace exhaust gases which have been cooled, for example, by using them to preheat or evaporate the hydrocarbon charge.
The apparatus according to the invention for carrying out the method is characterized by an oven, a number of straight tubular reaction vessels, which are arranged in parallel in said oven, each reaction vessel consisting of an inlet part with a large surface-to-volume ratio and one following;
end part with a small ratio of surface area to volume, further characterized by a furnace at the entrance of the named furnace, which supplies hot gases, \ which flow through the furnace, an outlet for the hot gases at the other end of the furnace and further by means for introducing a gas slide into the furnace approximately at the point where the inlet part is connected to the corresponding subsequent part of the reaction vessels.
The means for introducing a cooling layer of gases into the furnace can consist of a duct which is guided around the furnace and is provided with nozzles which protrude into the furnace. Means can also be present to supply part of the furnace exhaust gases to the said channel. In most cases it will be necessary to cool down the furnace exhaust gases beforehand. This is expediently done in that they are passed through preheaters or evaporators for the charge, which are installed in an adjacent chamber. Further cooling can be carried out by passing the exhaust gases over a waste heat steam boiler.
When applying the process according to the invention to the conversion of petroleum fractions into aromatic hydrocarbons and olefin-containing gases, the reaction vessels used can consist of a tube of about 7.6 a diameter and a pipe connected to it of about 2 to 5.4 cm in diameter.
A preferred embodiment of the apparatus according to the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawings.
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus according to the invention.
Fig. 2 shows the furnace in section.
The vertical furnace 10 of rectangular cross-section is finitely heated to the gas burners 11 ge. Said burners are arranged in the furnace along the main axis. The combustion gases pass through the slits 13 into the exhaust pipe 12. A number of tubular reaction vessels 14 are arranged on both longitudinal sides of the furnace 7.0, one of which is shown in FIG. 1. only two are shown. Each reaction vessel 1.4 consists. from a narrow pipe of about 7.6 a 1.
W. and an associated wide tube of about 2ä, 4 a 1.W., the narrow part 15 of the reaction vessel for carrying out the endothermic cracking stage and the wide part 16 for carrying out the Aroniatisierungsreaktion. Which thermiseli neutral or is slightly exothermic.
At the level at which the narrow part 15 merges into the wide part 16 of the reaction vessel, a channel 1 7 is led to the furnace 10. (Said channel is provided with nozzles 18 at the top and nozzles 19 at the bottom (Fig. 2); the two series of nozzles are offset from one another and protrude into the furnace. Chamber 20 (Fig. 1) contains a number of evaporator coils which are connected at one end to the inlet of a reaction vessel 14 and at the other end to the common liquid container.
The liquid hydrocarbons are fed to the evaporator coils through the pipeline 39, while the vapors are fed to the reaction vessels through the lines 38 which are laid in the channels 40, fed in on both sides of the furnace ceiling (Fig. 2). Each reaction vessel 14 is provided on the lower linden tree with an outlet tube 42, which is connected by valve 43. the common drainage pipe 44 is connected.
A device 45 is used to inject water to cool the reaction products at the exit of the reaction vessels. The exhaust duct 12 under the furnace floor is connected to the duct 22, which in turn is connected to the chamber 20, the hot exhaust gases flowing through the duct 22 and over the wall 23 into the chamber 20. Under the chamber 20 there is a second chamber 24 in which a Nie- clerdruek steam boiler can be set up.
On both sides of the chambers 20 and 23 a series of channels 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30 is arranged, the latter of which is connected by the channel 31 to the ventilator 32, so that gases through the channel 33 into the Channel 17 can be funded. The slide 3.1, 35, 36 are used to regulate the amount of gas austre from the channel 12. This system of ducts, slides and fans is present on both sides of the chambers 20 and 24, although only one system is shown in the drawing.
If all valves are closed, the gases flow from channel 7.2 upwards through channel 22 and over wall 23 and through chamber 20, snaking over the evaporator, through chamber 24, over steam boiler 25 to channel 37 and from there to the chimney stream.
By adjusting the slide 35, the desired amount of cooled gases passes from the chamber 24 through the channels 29, 30, 37 to the fan 32, is conveyed into the channel 17 and distributed to the furnace through the nozzles 18, 19.
By adjusting the slide 36, the desired amount of the gases leaving the chamber 20 is fed directly to the fan 32 through the channels 28, 30, 31, bypassing the chamber 24. By adjusting the slide 34, the desired amount of gas is passed from the outlet 12 to the chamber 20 and through the channels 26, 27 to the chamber 24 and then directed to the fan 32 or to the channel 37 or both, depending on the position of the slide 35.
By means of the described system of channels and slides, precise regulation of the amount and temperature of the cooling gases distributed into the furnace through the nozzles 18, 19 is achieved. The furnace can also be heated with oil burners instead of gas burners.
The conversion of a non-aromatic naphtha or petroleum in the vapor phase at 650 to 750 C into aromatic hydrocarbons and olefin-containing gases is carried out in the described apparatus in the following manner.
The charge is fed from a liquid container through the supply lines 39 to the evaporators 21, in which it is evaporated and superheated, and passes in vapor form through the lines 38 to the reaction vessels 14.
The reaction vessels 1.1 can be filled with the metal hydration and dehydrogenation catalysts described in British Patent No. 552216. be or with bodies made of a ceramic heat-resistant material such as hard porcelain, described in Swiss Patent No. 275431.
The batch is placed in the reaction vessels under a pressure of up to 5 atm. and preferably between 1 and 3 atm. Manometerdr-Lick fed at a flow rate between 0.05 and 0.6 and preferably between 0.2 and 0.6 liters (measured as liquid) of the batch per hour per liter of the reaction vessel volume. The reaction products are extinguished at the exit of the reaction vessels, that is to say cooled by injecting water, and pass through the outlet pipes 42 into the discharge line 44.
The furnace is heated by gas burners arranged along the ceiling in order to provide a temperature of about 800 to 900 C at the top of the furnace, which gradually falls to about 750 to 800 C at the level of the channel 17. The upper parts of the reaction vessels are mainly heated by the radiation from the gas flames.
A cooling layer of gases with a temperature of 300 to 400 C is fed from the channel 17 through the nozzles 18, 19 to the furnace. The furnace temperature, thereby moderated to about 700 C, is maintained down to the floor, with the exhaust gases flowing through the slots 13 into the channel 12 and then partly returned to the chimney and partly back into the channel 17 after they have one or other or both chambers 20 and 24 have flowed through.
