Sommier.
Bedspring. The present invention relates to a box spring, of the type comprising rows of compression springs wound around parallel axes, and which is characterized in that it comprises, for each row of springs, a member of support fixed to the frame and having a field part where notches are placed in which the lower end coil of the springs is engaged and retained, these notches being shaped so that this coil cannot be introduced into and extracted from these notches only by modifying their radius, which ensures that this coil is held in the notches against any accidental displacement.
The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the bed base which is the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a partial vertical sectional view thereof, and FIG. 2 a corresponding plan view. In the drawing, there is shown at 1 one of the longitudinal sides of the frame of the bed base. This bed base is of the type comprising rows of compression springs wound around parallel vertical axes. Two springs in a row have been indicated at 2 and 3, and at 4 and 5 two other springs belonging to a neighboring row. For each row of springs, there is provided a support member 6, respectively 7, constituted, in the example shown, by a flat metal bar, arranged in a field and fixed at its two ends to the two longitudinal sides of the frame of the bedspring.
These support bars serve to support the lower end of each of the springs and at the same time to hold them in place. For this purpose, two notches are provided at the location of each spring, such as those visible at 8 and 9, which have the shape of an L. The entry of the notches is arranged in such a way that the the lower end turn can be engaged there only after modifying the radius of this turn, in the example shown, by increasing its radius. The coil then being left to itself, automatically comes to be placed in the horizontal branch of the L, in such a way that this coil can no longer be released from the notches 8 and 9, under the effect of an accidental cause.
Of course, in a variant, the notches in the shape of L could be arranged in the reverse way, that is to say that the entry of the coil inside them (respectively its extraction of these notches) can only take place by compressing this coil to reduce its diameter.
Of course, the support pieces could be formed, not by a flat bar, but by profiled metal bars, either in the form of a T, an angle or a U, the notches being always practiced in the field part.
Each spring is further supported by a second support member 10, metallic, extending perpendicularly to the first support member 6, 7. This second support member is connected to the. lower turn of each res comes out through two turns 11. These members 10 are formed, in the example shown, by a metal wire fixed by its ends to the small sides of the frame, not shown. These organs pass through a hole made in the organs 6, 7, so that the latter support them. The part of the flanges surrounding the lower turn of each spring is arched with the curvature of this turn, so as to ensure good cooperation.
As can be seen in the drawing, each support bar 6, 7 cooperates with the springs of a same row and each second support member 10 cooperates with several springs each belonging to a different row. The springs are also connected to one another at their lower part by connecting members 12 comprising chains.
r At least some of the springs located along the long sides of the frame (i.e. therefore springs 3 and 5, in the example shown) have one of their intermediate turns connected to the frame by means limiting the quantity of which these springs may flex during use of the box spring. In the example shown, these means are constituted by a rigid metal tab 13 fixed, on the one hand, to the frame and, on the other hand, to the part of said r turn 14, the closest to this frame. The tab 13 could be replaced by a flexible, non-extensible member, for example a flexible metal blade or a steel wire. This arrangement limiting the bending of the turns at the most stressed location of the bed base has the effect of prolonging the life of the latter and avoiding the use of the usual strings.
