Device for the destruction of white grubs in the ground.
The cockchafer flying years favor the strong reproduction of cockchafers and thus the grubs in the soil of meadow and arable land, which often occur in such enormous quantities that they have catastrophic effects on the eyes. Trapping methods and chemical control are not enough to get rid of the pests during the flight time, so dal; ; the farmer, especially in spring, is faced with the white grubs, which live in large numbers in the uppermost part of the earth.
The former control is too expensive and is only worthwhile for high-quality crops.
At the same time, the known chemical agents are used to kill the necessary ground worms and useful insects.
The present invention now relates to a device for destroying grubs in the ground. This is characterized by a rotatably mounted in a draw frame. The circumference of the drum is equipped with prong-like spikes, which spikes are pivotable and at the same time displaceable in the direction of the drum circumference against the action of tension springs, the whole thing in such a way that when the spiked drum unrolls on grass and arable fields, the spines penetrate the ground and thereby cause injury or death to the affected grubs. whereby the spines are pushed at least approximately vertically into the ground and also pulled out of it again.
In the accompanying drawing, the subject matter of the invention is shown in an exemplary embodiment, and. although shows:
1 shows the device in cross section during the rolling of a field and
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device, the protective plate partially broken away.
In the example shown, 1 designates the draw frame with the seat 2 and the drawbar 3. A continuous axle 4, which carries a drum J, is mounted in the draw frame 1. The latter is formed by the wheels 6 and the drum shell 7 located between them. The wheels 6 have on their circumference longitudinal strand braids 8, in which rods 9 are rotatably mounted and displaceably limited in the circumferential direction of the drum against the action of tension springs 10. The rods 9 have lever arms 11 at their ends, on which the tension springs 10 engage, while at the other end they are hooked into side rings 12 of the drum.
On the rods 9 sit firmly. lined up are the prong-like spikes 13, the latter of which are wound from spring wire steel to form double prongs with a stop apex 14 and between which spacer sleeves 15 are pushed onto the rods 9. As a result of the tensile force of the spring, as can be seen from FIG. 1, the stop units 14 become the sting. n 13 pressed against the drum shell 7 and at the same time the rods 9 placed against one end of the slots 8, and that when the spikes 13 are not stuck in the ground. The Staeheltrommel is covered by a protective sheet 16 which is attached to the draw frame 1.
So that the device can be moved on roads when not in use, the spiked drum must be lifted off the road or raised. This is done by means of spindles 17 and handwheel 18 which can be raised and lowered and which are attached to the rear of the draw frame 1.
The device or the drum 5 equipped with spikes is pulled over the meadow or arable land that is saturated with grubs and rolled over it. The spines 13 penetrate vertically into the soil and injure or kill the grubs that are hit. It is well known that even slightly injured grubs die after a short time. When the rods 13 penetrate into the ground, the tension springs 10 are tensioned because the abutment vertices 14 of the double prongs are moved away from the drum shell 7 and the rods 9 are shifted in the longitudinal strands 8.
As a result of this movable arrangement, the spines 13 3 can penetrate at least approximately vertically into the soil and can also be pulled out of this again, thereby avoiding the earth's surface being churned up.
As soon as the spikes 13 of one of the rods 9 are pulled up by moving the device out of the ground, these snap back into the starting position by the stop apex 14 again on the drum casing 7 and the rods 9 at one end of the longitudinal slots 8 rest.
The spines 13 of the various rods 9 can be arranged laterally offset from one another so that an even and dense distribution of the double tines on the drum is possible in order to injure or kill the greatest possible number of white-winged grubs when rolling down a meadow or arable field can.
When driving to and from the workplace, the running wheels 19 are lowered so far that the spikes 13 no longer touch the roadway.
Of course, it is easily possible to lower the running wheels to use a different construction known per se without affecting the essence of the invention.
