Description
Security equipment. The means of safety usually used to retain workers who are victims of falls in the exercise of their profession (roofers, carpenters, etc.) have the disadvantages, either of forcing the worker to stop his work frequently, by particularly when it is necessary to hold a rope in the hand, ie, if they are permanently attached to their work, not to absorb the shock of restraint.
The purpose of the safety equipment which is the subject of the present invention is to remedy these drawbacks. It is characterized in that it comprises a flexible connecting member connected at one of its ends, by means of a spring, to means intended to be moored to a fixed point and fixed at its other end to a dispo attachment for the human body.
This attachment device can be constituted by a back plate to which is. fixed at least one belt intended to surround the trunk of the human body, the connecting member being fixed at least to said belt in the part of the latter integral (the dirty gold plate. The equipment provided with such a device attachment also has the advantage of leaving the worker perfectly free of his movements. The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the safety equipment according to the invention, provided with a fastening device as just indicated.
The equipment shown is constituted by a rope 1, fixed at one of its ends to a coil spring 2 made of steel, the strength of which enables it to support a weight of one thousand kilograms. This spring is itself fixed to a ring 3 and passed through a belt 4 which constitutes the means for mooring the equipment.
The rope 1 is attached at its other end to a ring 5 by which it is connected to the attachment device for the human body.
This device consists of a back plate 6 and two belts 7 and 8. The ring 5 passes through the belt 7, which is fixed to the back plate 6 at the upper part of this plate. The belt 8 is attached to the lower part of the back plate 6. A reinforcement piece 9 extends in the middle part of the plate 6 between the ring 5 and the belt 8. The belts 7 and 8 are intended to surround the trunk of 1-user.
The back plate 6, the straps 7 and 8 as well as the part 9 can be made of leather. Here is how the equipment described is used The worker called upon to work in a place where there is a risk of falling, anchors the equipment to a fixed point, in the case of drawing a chimney 10, using strap 4. He attaches himself using straps 7 and 8, taking care that back plate 6 is behind his back, with buckle 5 near his shoulder blades. If the worker falls, he will be retained by the rope and the stopping shock will be lessened by the spring 2.
The flexible connecting member which has been described as being a rope could obviously be a cable.
To give the equipment even more safety and to avoid any accident in the event of breakage of the spring 2, a chain can be housed inside the spring and connect its two ends, leaving it free to lie down. .
