Injection syringe and method for making the same.
The known injection syringes used for medical purposes generally have a conically shaped connection element on the end of the pump cylinder facing the injection needle, which serves as a support for the injection needle.
To date, there are various forms of injection syringes in the smoke. In the so-called all-glass syringes, the cylinder and the connection element form a uniform whole that is made entirely of glass. In other syringes, the conical connection element for the injection needle consists of metal and is arranged on a metal base, which in turn is connected to the tubular cylinder made of glass by some kind of binding agent. In yet another type of syringe, a metal connecting element or a base supporting the same is inextricably connected to the cylinder made of glass by melting.
All of the injection syringes mentioned have considerable disadvantages. In the case of syringes made entirely of glass, frequent breaks in the conical connection element occur when bending stresses occur, because the same is conically shaped by grinding and is usually slightly scratched by the grinding wheel at the transition point from the conical to the cylindrical part. In the case of syringes with metal parts fused into the glass, certain tensions are always present despite the use of materials with the same or at least the same coefficient of thermal expansion in the glass, especially because the expansion coefficients of different materials change differently with temperature.
These residual stresses very often lead to breakage of the glass during the often required sterilization of the syringes. In the case of injection syringes with metal parts attached to the glass cylinder by a binder, it is again the unequal temperature coefficients of the materials used that can lead to tension in the glass or cracks in the binder. The latter not only increases the risk of scalding of the syringe, but is also to be regarded as a serious disadvantage from a hygienic point of view.
The present invention seeks to remedy the above-mentioned protrusions and relates to an injection syringe and a method for producing the same.
According to the invention, the injection syringe is characterized in that the end of the pump cylinder directed towards the injection needle has a base provided with a passage opening, in which passage opening a connection element serving as a carrier for the injection needle is inserted, suitable and secured against axial displacement.
The method for producing the injection syringe consists in that the pump cylinder, which is provided with a bottom having a passage opening, on the one hand, and the connection element serving as a carrier for the injection needle, on the other hand, are manufactured to match each other in separate operations, whereupon the connection element is inserted into the passage opening in a further operation is used and secured against axial displacement.
Exemplary embodiments of the injection syringe according to the invention are illustrated in the attached drawing, which shows:
1 shows a part of the injection syringe according to a first embodiment with an exchangeable connection element for the injection needle, not shown, in an axial longitudinal section,
2 shows an analogous section through a second embodiment of the syringe with a rigidly inserted connection element for the injection needle,
3 shows an analogous section through a third embodiment of the syringe, also with a rigidly inserted connection element,
4 shows an analogous section through a fourth embodiment with a rigidly inserted connection element.
According to the illustration in FIG. 1, the pump cylinder 10 made of glass or quartz has a base 12 provided with a passage opening 11. A sleeve 13 adjoins the passage opening 11 outside the cylinder, which sleeve 13 forms a coherent whole with the base 12 and the cylinder and the wall thickness of which is greater than that of the cylinder.
The inner surface of the cuff is conical in such a way that the clear width of the cuff decreases with increasing distance from the inside of the cylinder. A connection element 15 provided with a cone 14 for attaching the injection needle (not shown) is inserted into the cuff 13 to fit exactly, in that it has a correspondingly conical part 16, the diameter of which is larger at the end facing the interior of the cylinder 10. Between the two conical parts
14 and 16 there is a threaded part onto which a nut 17 is screwed.
The conical design of the part 16 secures the connection element against axial displacement in the direction away from the cylinder 10, while the nut 17 serves as a means of restraint to see quietly against displacement in the other direction.
The cylinder 10 with the base 11 and the sleeve on the one hand and the connecting element 15 on the other hand are expediently made of materials with the same thermal expansion coefficient as possible in order to avoid the occurrence of stresses in the glass part when the syringe is sterilized.
In the exemplary embodiment described, the connection element 15 is inserted interchangeably in the cuff 13, which is therefore of great advantage since the injection needles available on the market have Aufsteekhülsen with different conical bores. There are needles according to two different German standards and those according to an American standard.
With the syringe described, it is now possible, if several connection elements are present, to replace one connection element with a conical surface 14, for example the large German standard, with another connection element with a cone of the American standard, if only one needle with the American taper bore is available. However, all of the interchangeable connection elements have a similarly designed part 16 which can be inserted into the cuff 13 to fit exactly. Likewise, the inner surfaces of the cuff 13 of different syringes are equally conical in shape.
According to non-illustrated variants of FIG. 1, the connection element 15 could also have a shape other than a conical shape in its part 16, provided that the inner surface of the sleeve 13 is designed accordingly and precisely matched. It would be possible, for example, to provide the surface of the base 12 that faces the inside of the cylinder 10 with a spherical recess, while a corresponding spherical cap surface is present as the connection element 15.
Such a design is shown in FIG. 2, all around using an example with a non-exchangeable connection element. The inner surface of the bottom 12 can also be flat if the connection element has a flange provided with a flat counter surface. The inner surface of the sleeve 13 can in these cases be cylindrical. With a corresponding thickening of the bottom 12, a special sleeve 13 may be unnecessary.
Instead of a nut 17 and a matching threaded part, a bayonet lock could also be present as an inhibiting means for sieving the connection element according to a variant not shown.
In the embodiment of the syringe shown in FIG. 2, the connecting element 15 has a spherical cap-shaped seat surface 18 which fits into a matching spherical recess of the surface of the bottom or the inner surface of the cuff 13 facing the cylinder interior. To secure the connection element against axial displacement in the direction towards the cylinder 10, the part protruding from the sleeve 13 is at least partially provided with a thickening coating 19.
If the connection element 15 consists of glass, this coating can preferably be formed from glass flux. In this case, the connection element cannot be exchanged.
Analogously to this exemplary embodiment, a securing ring could also be drawn onto the connection element 15, cold or warm, at the point of the thickening coating 19.
A ring that acts in the same way could also be applied galvanically, whereby it can optionally cover the entire protruding part of the connection element 15, that is to say also the cone intended for attaching the needle. To secure the connection element 15, a binding agent 20 is located in a thin layer between the connection element and the inner surface of the cuff 13, it being necessary that the surfaces of the cuff and the connection element which lie against one another match exactly. This type of inhibition of the connection element is completely different from that of cementing or
Soldering the metal part in the case of unrecognized syringes, where the binding agent has a considerable thickness of up to several millimeters. While cracks and cavities can form in the binder there, this is not the case in the example according to FIG. 3.
There is also the advantage here that the binding agent, due to its extremely narrow frontal zone, has only insignificant contact with the liquids used, so that there is neither a risk of these liquids changing nor of the binding agent being destroyed by the liquids.
If the cylinder 10 and the connecting element 15 are made of glass, the binding agent can advantageously be glass flux.
4 shows a further example in which the inhibition of the connection element 15 is achieved on the one hand by the shape of the latter and the inner surface of the sleeve 13 and on the other hand by adhering the parts lying against one another under thermal influence. For this purpose, the connection element 15, like the cylinder 10, is made of glass and fits exactly into the sleeve 13. Surprisingly, it has shown that by heating the contact zone for a long enough time, the two glass surfaces can adhere well together without the glass being visibly deformed, let alone melted. It is a kind of sintering.
After Ab hühimig, the two parts then form a single whole. It is advantageous to choose the same glass types for the two glasses, which have at least the same thermal expansion coefficient.
In the case of the injection syringes described, the deficiencies mentioned at the outset are not present in that the risk of breakage of the connecting elements 15 made of glass is considerably reduced, since the same z. B. in the embodiments according to FIGS. 2 to 4 can be ground over their entire length, so that scratching by the grinding wheel can be avoided.
The cuff 13 forms a welcome reinforcement of the connection element in the critical zone, which further reduces the risk of breakage. The sleeve can be thicker walled than the cylinder 10 itself to increase this effect.
It can be seen from the foregoing that the base 12 and the inner surface of the sleeve 13 must be worked extremely precisely. However, such an accuracy cannot be achieved with the usual means of glass blowing. It is therefore a special method for producing the injection syringe used, which is explained below with reference to some examples.
The tube used to form the cylinder 10 is first closed at one end or severely restricted. The tube, the bottom of which has been transformed into a plastic state by heating, is then placed in a pressing device and the soft glass mass is brought into the desired precise shape by pressing in suitable matrices.
It is also possible to insert a shaped mandrel adapted to the desired recess into the glass tube to be processed and to convert one end of the glass into a plastic state by heating. The glass material is then brought into contact with the mandrel by applying an external pressure and, after cooling and after pulling out the mandrel, the desired shape of the base and the sleeve is obtained. According to this method, with a suitable shape of the mandrel, both the exact interior design of the cylinder 10, with regard to diameter and roundness, and the shape of the bottom and the sleeve can be carried out simultaneously in a single operation. The required pressure effect can e.g.
B. can be achieved with the aid of gaseous media in that a medium present outside the cylinder has a higher pressure than a medium present inside the cylinder.
According to a further variant of the method, the glass tube of the cylinder 10 can at least also be provided with a fairly thick base. After cooling, the same is then designed using mechanical devices, for example, by drilling out using a conical diamond drill the requirements according to d.
The connection element 15 is manufactured separately and brought into the required shape.
Only at the end is the connection element either replaceable or rigidly inserted in the passage opening or in the sleeve of the cylinder base.
