Electric current generator installation supplying a battery with direct current and user circuits with direct and alternating current. The present invention relates to an electrical current generator installation supplying a battery with direct current and. use circuits in direct and alternating current, of the kind in which a dynamo supplies a battery in parallel with use circuits, this installation comprising, connected in series with a battery, the armature of the generator of a booster whose excitement is. produced by two differential windings connected, in shunt, one to the battery terminals and the other to the circuit terminals.
of use, one of these windings being coupled in series with a variable resistor as a function of the voltage across the. operating circuit, with a view to varying the mutual influence of the two excitation windings, in particular during the discharge of said battery, characterized in that this installation comprises a motor for controlling the booster which is arranged to function at. both as a drive motor and as a switch for supplying power, also at constant voltage, - The AC operating circuit.
One arrangement makes it possible, when the generator is running, to supply the user circuits at constant voltage and at the same time to charge the battery at increasing voltage; when the generator is stopped and only the battery supplies the user circuits, this arrangement raises the voltage of the battery to supply these circuits at constant voltage and thus makes it possible to use the full capacity of the battery.
The present invention a. for the purpose of making it possible to obtain the same result in the supply of alternating current use circuits from a direct current generator, with a view in particular to the lighting of road, rail or vehicle vehicles. overhead, by discharge tubes.
The single figure of the attached drawing is present at. as an example, a diagram of the installation.
The installation described below is designed more specifically for supplying current to lighting devices and auxiliary devices on a road, rail or air vehicle. This installation comprises a generator or dynamo 1, of the shunt or compound type, which is. driven by any suitable means either. directly by the engine to the vehicle or an auxiliary engine, or from one of the axles of this vehicle. The current produced by the dynamo 1 is kept at constant voltage by any suitable means of known type.
It is. thus, for example as shown in the diagram, that the inductor winding 2 of this dynamo is coupled in series with a variable resistor 3a of a regulator 3, the excitation coil 3b of which is branched across the terminals of the dy - namo 1, so as to vary the value of the resistance in series with the inductor 2 to maintain a constant voltage Vl - across the terminals of the dynamo 1.
In series in the circuit of the. dynamo 1 is. connected, in the usual way, a circuit breaker which automatically switches dynamo 1 on when the voltage of the latter reaches the normal voltage of use. In the example shown, this circuit breaker-circuit breaker is constituted by a current return relay 23 comprising two windings 23c and 23b which are respectively in series and in shunt with the <B> dy- </B> namo 1.
This relay activates a <B> 23e </B> contact which in turn controls the circuit, of winding 4a acting on contact 4b of a contactor 4, so that winding 4a is energized and contactor 4 closed when the dynamo is running.
The accumulator battery 12 is mounted in the usual way as a bypass on the circuit of the dynamo 1 after the contact 41) of the contactor 4. In series with this battery 1? East. connected the armature 9 of the generator of a booster, said armature 9 being mechanically connected to the armature 7 of the motor of this on the volteur. The armature 7 of the motor is also mounted as a bypass on the circuit of the dy namo 1, the inductor winding 8 of the motor being connected as a bypass on the armature 7.
An automatic switch 5 is. connected in the armature circuit 7 and its control winding 5a is bypassed across the terminals of the dynamo 1 and controlled by a contact 4c of the contactor 4.
A starting device of any suitable type can be provided for the motor of the booster group. Thus, for example, in the diagram shown, there is in the known manner, in series with the armature 7, a suitable resistor 19 which can be short-circuited by means of a contactor 6, the excitation winding 6a is; mounted as a bypass across the armature 7.
The generator of the booster has two differential excitation windings, one of which, 10, is shunted across the terminals of battery 12, while the other, 11, is. bypassing the terminals of the user network. Any one of these two windings 10 and 11., for example winding 11 in the diagram shown, is connected in series with the variable resistor 14 of a regulator 13 including the. excitation coil 13a is bypassed at the terminals of the direct current utilization circuit, so as to vary the value of resistor 1.4 as a function of the voltage at the terminals of said utilization circuit.
The variable resistors 3c !. and 14 may, for example, be constituted by stacks of carbon disks, the compression of which can be varied by the action of the regulators 3 and 13 by means of suitable mechanical references.
The direct current utilization circuits 16 and 18 are controlled by switches 21 and 22 which have iliary <B>, </B> -iux <B>. </B> contacts 21a. and 22u. coupled in parallel, these contacts being. also coupled in parallel with contact 4c of contactor 4.
The operation of the installation thus constituted is as follows: If the dynamo 1 turns, it supplies the constant voltage circuits of use with current. continuous and. charges battery 12, with the generator of the booster operating. then normally as a shunt differential booster, the effect of regulator 13 being eliminated very simply by adjusting regulator 3 so that dynamo 1 gives a voltage V1 slightly higher than voltage 1 -: \ for adjusting regulator 13, which causes the latter to be blocked at the end of the stroke on the side of the maximum resistance.
The resistance 14 inserted in the circuit is. then maximum, the winding. 10 is therefore predominant and increases the voltage of the generator of the booster as and. make sure that the voltage V "of the battery rises.
If the dynamo 7. is stopped, the battery 12 discharges in the user circuits through the armature 9 of the generator of the booster. The voltage given by the latter always depends on the ratio of the ampere-turns of the windings 10 and 11 and the purpose of the regulator 13 is, by varying the resistance 14, to <change this ratio. Indeed, the current being reversed in the armature 9, the effects of the windings 10 and 11 are themselves reversed and the winding 10 which tended to elevate the voltage during the charge has an opposite effect which is corrected by the 'winding 11.
which now has an effect in the same direction (read the primitive effect of the winding 10. The regulator 13 modifies the value of the resistor 14 so that the total voltage V- 'remains constant. The purpose of the contactor 5 is to. switch the armature of the booster motor on or off 7. This armature is switched off when no operating device is plugged in when the dynamo 1 is not running.
The motor shaft 7 carries, in the form of a normal manifold soli, three rings 24 which are connected at three points equidistant from the rolling armature. The rubbers of these rings are connected to the three terminals of the primary 25 of a delta-star transformer, the primary of which is in delta and the secondary 26 in star. To the four terminals of the secondary are connected the four wires of a three-phase current distribution line 27 intended in particular to supply discharge lighting tubes.
The alternating voltage (this line is kept constant in the same way as the direct voltage of the use circuits 16 and 18 by the very play of the booster 9.
It goes without saying that, without departing from the scope of the invention, it is possible to make modifications to the embodiment which has just been described.
In particular, as it is shown in dotted lines in the diagram, the resistor 14 of the regulator 13 can be cut by means of a contact 4d actuated by the eontaeteur -1, so due to said resistor <B> 1.4 < / B> is switched off and takes an infinite value when contactor 1 is. energized, that is to say when the dynamo 1 turns and delivers in the circuits of use. In this case, the connection of the resistor 14 to the distribution circuit which starts from the terminal of the contact 4b is no longer made directly, but passes through the contact 4d.
