Process for the manufacture of tobacco products. The waste generated during the processing of the tobacco, i.e. the fine material that cannot be processed into ropes, has so far only been used for the production of nicotine, as a pesticide or for the manufacture of leaf-shaped wrappings for cheaper types of cigars and stumps.
It has now been found that tobacco waste can be refined by suitable treatment and processed into whiskey and other goods.
According to the invention, tobacco products are produced in such a way that tobacco waste is calculated with the smallest possible amount of binders, preferably 2 to 12%, on the air-dry material that does not impair the taste and fire of the tobacco, and with solvents for the binders processed into a dough, shaped and freed from the solvent.
Sugar cane molasses, sugar beet molasses and similar sugar solutions, refined locust bean gum, as well as pectins and their solutions as well as mixtures of these substances have proven to be suitable binders.
As attempts have shown, these products meet the condition, when used correctly, to produce the binding effect in small amounts, not to impair the aroma of the tobacco and, after removal of the solvents, to ensure a good fire-proof molding with sufficient strength of the same to effect.
The solvent used for the binders is preferably water, so that removal of the same amounts to drying.
The shaping can be done in any way, for. B. by giving the product the shape of a cylindrical roll of usual dimensions in the pillar industry, which is preferably carried out with an extruder, follows, depending on the choice of Ausstossöff voltage different thicknesses, such. B. 9, 12 and 15 mm, can be produced. By inserting suitable needles into the discharge opening of the extrusion press, it is also possible to provide the strand with one or more air channels. The strands thus obtained can then be divided into pieces of any length and, if desired, covered with a cover material, e.g.
B. a natural or artificial wrapper, wrapped around who the.
You can just as easily give your dough the conical or spindle shape customary for cigars, for which you can use suitable shapes.
Another possibility is to shape the dough into pieces that correspond to the inside of a pipe bowl, so that ready-to-use pipe cartridges are created. In addition, tablets can be produced which are used as a substitute for chewing tobacco.
By gently disintegrating the mass during or after drying, a granulated product that can be used as pipe tobacco is obtained.
Incense cones, which are particularly valuable for beekeepers, can also be produced by suitable shaping.
Example: 11.25 g refined locust bean gum and 1.25 g sugar beet molasses are emulsified completely homogeneously in a kneading machine with 500 cm 'of water for 2 hours. This emulsion is then added to 250 g of tobacco waste in powder form and stirred for a further quarter of an hour.
The resulting dough is pressed into cylindrical coils on an extruder and these are dried while still moist at 1200 C and then acclimatized for 3 days at 200 C and 65% relative humidity and covered with a wrapper made of tobacco or another vegetable or wrapped in synthetic, combustible material.
