Description

Process for manufacturing an agglomerated cork roll, in particular for letterpress machines, and roll obtained by this process. The present invention. comprises a process for manufacturing a roll of agglomerated cork, in particular for typographic machines, for example rotary, flat, mid-rib, or for litho graphic, flat, rotary or offset printing machines.

This process is characterized in that one triturates the cork until a finely divided product is obtained, in that vegetable oil, Judean bitumen and lithographic varnish are added, which act as agglutinants, in that the whole beats to obtain a homogeneous paste, in that the paste thus obtained is placed in a mold. in that it is subjected inside the mold to a high pressure for a determined time and in that it is demolded after drying.

The present invention also comprises a roll of agglomerated cork obtained by the process indicated above.

In a preferred implementation of the process that comprises. the invention, the die-cast roll is rectified and rolled and then re-covered by means of at least one layer of a varnish containing vegetable oil, gasoline of turpentine, lithographic varnish, in such a way in waterproofing said roller.

It is possible to use a mold in two semi-cylindrical parts in which two halves of the roll are molded, these two halves then being assembled on the axis of rotation of the roll. It is also possible to use a cylindrical mold so as to obtain a cylindrical roller, an axis being introduced by pressure into this roller.

The roller obtained by means of the process according to the invention has the advantage of allowing perfect admission of the inks as well as their uniform distribution. The consistency of the agglomerated cork is such that it undergoes practically no deformation. A roller of agglomerated cork can therefore be used for a very long time compared to the rolls used heretofore and having surfaces of gelatin, leather or rubber.

The described roller also has the advantage that it can be easily repaired in the event that its surface is damaged.
