Forging press attachment for forging crankshaft shafts and the like. The present invention, due to the collaboration of Mr. François Meley, relates to a forging press accessory for the forging of crankshaft shafts and similar parts. This accessory is characterized in that it comprises, on the one hand, two extreme stamps in two parts, intended to support the blank and to clamp it on either side of the location of the crankshaft, and, d 'on the other hand, a central stamp, also in two parts, intended to embrace the region of the blank which is intended to become the crankpin of the crankshaft,
the upper part of this central stamp cooperating with the movable plate of the press to move transversely to the blank, while the end stamps are mounted on supports sliding longitudinally on the fixed plate of the press, these extreme stamps being linked to the movable plate of the press by ramps in the form of inclined planes, so that they can come closer to one another according to the movement of said movable plate. The central stamp can be rigidly linked to the movable plate of the press. The transverse movement of this stamp then begins at the same time as the movement of bringing together the extreme blanks.
In this case, the apparatus is suitable for forging crankshafts from blanks having bulges in the regions which are intended to form the crankshaft arms.
Following an improvement, due to 11I. Jean Lafont, the central stamp can enjoy a certain vertical clearance with respect to the upper plate of the press.
The transverse movement of the central stamp then begins only with a certain delay in relation to the movement. of approximation of the extreme stamps. We can thus start from cylindrical blanks, create the bulges in a first phase, the central stamp remaining inactive, then forge the crankshaft in a second phase which immediately follows. first and during which the transversal action. of the central stamp is combined with the longitudinal action of the extreme stamps.
In parts forged by means of the accessory according to the invention, the less pure axial zone, of the blank, remains in the parts of the part which are called up. to withstand the least fatigue, while the healthy fibers are found in the parts subject to the greatest fatigue, and are arranged parallel to the outer surfaces of the part. It follows that the forged parts by means of the accessory according to the invention achieve the best conditions of resistance and endurance. The accompanying drawing represents, by way of example, two embodiments of the object of the invention.
Figs. 1 to 5 relate to a first form, intended for working on blanks, with bulges.
Fig. 1 is a section along the longitudinal axis of the accessory at the start of forging of a crank.
The, fig. 2 is a similar section, at the end of the forging of a crank.
Fig. 3 is a section along III-III of FIG. 1.
Fig. 4 is another dirty cross section, along IV-IV of fig. 2.
Fig. 5 is a section through the axis, on a larger scale of a detail.
Figs. 6 to 10 relate to a second embodiment intended for the work of cylindrical blanks.
Fig. 6 is a schematic section, following VI-VI of FIG. 7 Fig. 7 is itself a section made transversely along VII-VII of the previous one.
Figs. 8 to 10 are views corresponding to FIG. 6, and showing the accessory in the various phases of its operation.
As represented by FIGS. 1 to 5, the accessory is intended for working with bulging blanks. It comprises a lower bed base 1, intended to rest on the fixed plate of a normal forging press, and an upper cross member 2, which is intended to be fixed under the movable plate of this same press. The base 1 forms a slide, on which can slide two cradles 3, receiving the lower part of the end stamps 9. The cross member 2 carries, towards its middle, the upper part 11 of the central stamp. The lower part 10 of this stamp is supported by a piston 4, which slides in a hydraulic cylinder housed in the base 1.
This cylinder is provided with an exhaust valve 14, loaded by means of an adjustable spring 15, which can be constituted by a stack of Belleville washers (FIG. 5). The lower part 10 of the central stamp is provided, on either side of the piston 4, with return pistons 7, which slide in hydraulic cylinders, also housed in the base. The communication of the respective cylinders of the piston 4 and of the pistons 7 with the pressurized liquid pipes is under the control of a hand distributor 12.
Each end of the cross member 2 forms an inclined plane ramp 17, which is in contact with a reverse ramp, formed by the corresponding cradle 3.
Above the upper part of each end stamp, a piston 5 slides in a hydraulic cylinder, formed in the cross member 2. This piston acts on an oblique face 18 of the corresponding upper half-stamp 9, with the interposition of a sole transverse 16, adjustable position.
On either side of the cylinder of the piston 5, and parallel to the latter, the cross member 2 forms two other hydraulic cylinders, in which the pistons 8 intended to remind the upper part of the. tin weighed 9 upwards (fig. 4). These pistons are coupled to the transverse flange 16. The cylinders of the pistons 5 are each provided with an exhaust valve 14, similar to the one mentioned above. about the piston cylinder 10.
The communication of the cylinders of the pistons 5 and of the pistons 8 with the pressurized liquid pipes is: under, the. dependence on a hand dispenser 13.
The accessory thus formed operates as follows: The bulging blank is placed in the accessory, such that the; part between two consecutive bulges to be shaped is between the two parts 10-11 of the central stamp and that the two bulges to be worked remain free between the central stamp and the end stamps. These receive the other parts of the blank in appropriately shaped housings with the desired orientation around its axis.
The blank is clamped in the end stamps, admitting the pressurized liquid into the cylinders of the pistons 5, generally coming from a hydraulic accumulator. When the tightening is carried out, the arrival of the pressurized fluid is interrupted. The forging press is then started. As the movable plate of this press descends, the pistons 5 are pushed back into their cylinders, but the liquid escapes only under the pressure necessary to open the valves 14 of these cylinders. This pressure is sufficient for the blank to remain clamped in the end stamps 9 on either side of the parts to be forged.
By the effect of the ramps 17, the cradles 3 and the stamps which they carry advance towards one another, at the same time as the central stamp is lowered. As a result, the blank is forged simultaneously in the longitudinal direction and in the transverse direction, and that a crank-shaped bend with flat arms is obtained, as shown in fig. 2.
When the forging of this crank is finished, one causes the raising of the movable plate of the press, then one operates the distributors 12 and 13 to, on the one hand, put the cylinders of the piston 5 to the exhaust and , on the other hand, admit the liquid under pressure under the return piston 8 of the upper part of the stamps 9 as well as under the return pistons 7 of the piston 4 starting from the lower part 10 of the central stamp. The accessory is thus brought back to its original state and the now loose blank can be moved there, to possibly forge a new level.
To receive the crank which has just been forged, the stamp 9 used during its forging is replaced by a stamp of the same type but the cavity of which has a shape which allows it to receive said crank in the desired orientation around the axis of the blank.
As represented by FIGS. 6 to 10, the accessory is suitable for working from cylindrical blanks. The same elements are found there as in the embodiment which has just been described. However, the upper part 21 of the central stamp, instead of being rigidly fixed to the cross member 33 carried by the movable plate of the press, enjoys a certain vertical clearance with respect to this cross member. To this end, this part 21 of the central stamp forms, towards its top, a cylinder for a piston 22, and it can itself slide along vertical guides 21a, fixed under the crosspiece 33.
Through a flexible line 25 and a check valve supply box 23, the cylinder of the piston 22 can be communicated with a pressurized liquid line, under the control of a shut-off valve 34. This same cylinder is connected, by another flexible pipe 26, to a discharge valve 24, similar to the valve 14 of the cylinders of the pistons 5 described above.
The operation is as follows: The blank is put in place and it is clamped in the end stamps 28-30 and 29-31 as explained with regard to the shape of the previous execution. The piston cylinder 22 is then placed in communication with the pressurized water pipe, then closes the valve 34. When the upper plate is then lowered. press, the extreme stamps immediately begin to move closer to each other by the effect of, ramps 17 of cross member 33.
But the central stamp 21-32 does not even immediately follow the crosspiece 33 in its downward movement. Retained below by the piston 4, of greater diameter than the udder tone 22, it slid along: its guides 21a, while keeping the part of the blank that it embraces tight, with a force which depends adjustment of the relief valve 24.
During this time, the bringing together of the end dies 28-30 and 29-31 causes the formation of bulges on either side of the central stamp 21-32, which corre- sponds to the first phase of forging (fig. . 9).
It is only when the top of the upper part 21 of the central stamp abuts under the cross member 33 that this part is drawn into the movement of the center of said cross member.
From this moment, begins the second phase of forging (fig. 10) which is carried out as in the case previously described and which follows without interruption to the first phase.
By stopping at the end of the first phase, it would be possible to obtain, with the apparatus as described above, parts comprising swollen parts or plates alternating with parts retaining the primary diameter of the blank.
