Induction heating method and device for its implementation. The present invention relates to an induction heating method and a device for its implementation.
Consider a typical manufacturing problem, for example the surface hardening of a cylindrical bearing shaft of irregular cross section. The experience a. proved that the thickness of the quenched film of such a part to be treated varies according to the changes in the heating field due to the change of the. cross section of the room.
The induction heating process, object of the invention, applied in particular to the surface hardening of parts having an irregular cross section, is characterized in that the part to be treated is subjected to the influence of a magnetic field alternating high frequency and an induced magnetic field, the latter being magnetically coupled with the main heating field and acting to compensate for variations in the main heating field due to changes in the cross section. of the piece; i, process.
The device for the implementation of. A process according to claim 1 is characterized by means for producing a high frequency alternating magnetic field penetrating into the workpiece to heat it, and by means for creating an induced magnetic field acting on my own. to compensate for variations of said heating field due to changes in the cross section of the workpiece.
The appended drawing illustrates schematically the method and represents, by way of example, several embodiments of the device for its implementation.
Fig. 1 shows, partially in section and schematically, a first embodiment.
Fig. 2 is a similar view of another embodiment, and FIGS. 3 and 4 are, respectively. vertical sectional and plan views of another embodiment.
In the, fig. 1, a heating coil 4, surrounding the workpiece W, is connected to a high-frequency current source 7 by conductors 5 and 6. The workpiece is a cylindrical shaft of a substantially uniform diameter over a large part of its length, the lower end 2 of which is of reduced diameter and the upper end of which has a recess 3 extending over about half the length of the shaft.
A metal coil C of high electrical conductivity is placed at a certain distance around the primary heating coil 4. The coil C is arranged in a transverse plane, in the middle of the length of the solid part of the part to be treat. The current induced in the coil causes a magnetic field which acts on the heating field lice directing the lines of force, so as to compensate for the deviations of this heating field resulting from changes in the cross section of said part.
The lines of force of the induced field cause an additional concentration of flux at the desired location to create additional heating, in order to compensate for the losses by heat conduction in the solid parts of the part to be treated.
To the right of the coil 4, a dotted line P shows, schematically and approximatively, the course of the lines of force of the field created by the energized heating coil, not influenced by the compensating ring C.
To the left of the same coil 4, the dotted line P 'shows the corrective influence of the magnetic field of the secondary coil C.
In fig. 2 is shown a workpiece W provided with a constriction n. The secondary coil C is disposed opposite the middle of the constriction, thus compensating for the influence of the reduced cross section.
Moreover, in the device of FIG. 2. another coil D of a material of high electrical conductivity is fitted to one end of the part to be treated. Coil D is supported by a shoulder of the workpiece. The induced magnetic field has a corrective influence on the normal course of the lines of force, so as to produce a more uniform heating of the extreme part of the part.
To adjust the compensation action of the induced field, an arrangement shown in figs. 8 and 4. The compensating ring is split and extended by two arms 8-8 which extend laterally, the two arms being. insulated from each other by an insulating material 9. A metal bar 10, supported by the two arms can be moved along them. By moving this bar, it is possible to increase or decrease the effective length of the secondary armature circuit, thus modifying the impedance of this circuit.
