Ellipsenzirkel.
Fig. 2 zeigt schematisch ein ZaInradge- triebe.
Elliptical compass. The ellipse can be understood as a special case of a cycloidal curve. On this basis, an elliptical compass can be constructed.
A cycloidal curve arises when the center Q (FIG. 1) of a circle k moves on a circle K while the circle K rotates around its center. The point P on the kris k now describes a cycldidic curve. The connection radius 0Q is denoted as R, that QP as r.
If the directions of rotation of B and r are oppositely directed, then one is dealing with the subgroup of hypocycloidal curves. If, with respect to a fixed system, there is exactly one revolution of r for one revolution of R, then P describes an ellipse.
Proof: Fig. 1 is based on the assumption that at the moment when r lies in the extension of R, the two radii just coincide with the positive x-axis. That position is shown where the two radii have already rotated through the angle u in opposite directions. The equations apply:
EMI0001.0033
If an ellipse is to be drawn with the semi-axes a and b, the radii R and r must be determined according to equations (6) and (7).
An exemplary embodiment of the elliptical circle according to the invention is shown in FIGS. 2 and 3.
Fig. 2 shows schematically a pinion gear. The wheel 1 is fixed. Two further gears 2 and 3 are mounted on a rod 4. The wheel 1 has twice as many teeth as the wheel 3. If the rod 4 is guided around the wheel 1 once, the wheel 3 rotates exactly once with respect to a system at rest, namely opposite to the direction of rotation of the rod 4.
Such a gear transmission is built into the elliptical compass of FIG. The latter has three points that are arranged in a straight line. The middle point marks the intersection of the ellipses, while the two on the outside indicate the direction of the major axis.
At the upper end, the shaft 4 carries a handle 7. Between the handle and the universal joint 5, an inherently rigid system is rotatably mounted on the shaft 4. It consists of the rotary handle 8, the housing 9 for the gear transmission, consisting of the gears 1 to 3, the tube 10 and the guide 11. At the lower end of the shaft 12 of gear 3 there is a universal joint 13.
This rotates the universal joint 15 via an extendable shaft 14, which drives the shaft 16. The shaft 16 is in a bearing bushing 17 at the end of the scale 18 ge superimposed, which in turn slides in the guide 11. Der Shaft 16 ist in der Lagerbuchse 17 an. At its lower end, the shaft 16 carries a guide for the rule 19, which in turn carries the drawing pen 20 or an ink pen.
The following describes the handling of the elliptical compass described: The radii R and r are set on the rulers 18 and 19, as they were determined according to formulas (6) and (7). Now the footplate is placed on the drawing sheet so that the middle point comes to rest at the intersection of the ellipse axes and the other two points on the large axis.
On the handle 7, the whole circle is held vertically while turning the handle 8, the ellipse is drawn net.
