Le -dispositif suivant l'invention est carac térisé -en .ce qu'il comporte un anneau fendu entourant l'anneau d'étanchéité entre ce der- nier et le bourrage .et recouvrant les existant @dans ;l'anneau d'étanchéité;
La modification de la forme d'exécution représentée aux fig. 5, 6 -et 7 consiste à em ployer des anneaux d'étanchéité fendus 2 au lieu d'anneaux à ;
sqgpents.
Sealing device. The present invention relates to a sealing device of the kind found in stuffing boxes, stuffing boxes or the like, for preventing fluid from escaping under the influence of a difference in temperature. pressure along a rotating shaft or a reciprocating rod, for example a pump shaft or a valve stem.
The shaft or rod passes through a cavity containing a stuffing of deformable material, for example rubber, surrounding at least one sealing ring, in a material with a low coefficient of friction, for example of carbon, comprising at least a radial slot and which embraces the shaft or the rod to be sealed. Means for compressing the stuffing in an adjustable manner are also provided in this device.
The device according to the invention is characterized in that it comprises a split ring surrounding the sealing ring between the latter and the packing and covering the existing ones in the sealing ring ;
the whole being arranged so as to ensure correct distribution of the radial pressure inwardly on the sealing ring.
The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, two embodiments of the positive device according to the invention.
Fig. 1. Is a longitudinal section of a first embodiment; Fig. 2 is a section taken along line 2-2 of FIG. 1; The f @; g. 31 is a section through the dignified 3-3 of fig. 1; Fig. 4 is an end view of FIG. 1; Figs. 5, 6; and 7 are views corresponding to FIGS. 1, 2 and 31 of a second execution eraser.
The same components are designated by the same reference numbers in both embodiments.
In fig. 1, 2 and 3, 1 designates a wall having a cavity containing the sealing gaskets and crossed by a rotating shaft or by a rod 12 endowed with a reciprocating movement, along which or -of which tightness must be ensured. 17 indicates the enclosure in which there is a pressure different from the external pressure.
Two adjacent rings with segments 2 are supported paT of aribre 12; and are -en. charcoal or other low-friction material.
These rings with segments. are surrounded by a filling 4 of rubber or of: another defoTm.able material, for example a thermoplastic synthetic resin, such as c. polyvinylmoride.
By comparing the fg. 2 and 3., we notice -that the segments are arranged: relative to each other, in such a way that the interstices between the segments of a ring are covered by the segments of the adjacent ring, so that the interstices are sealed.
An anchor -fixing 1,6, arranged in a segment (see obr fig. 2 @ -and 3), engages: in an interatiQe of an adjacent ring, thus fixing the neighboring rings correctly one by one compared to others.
7 designates a cover or cap for tightening the gaskets. : sealing; mounted on 9 'studs. An independent secondary alumeau 8, interposed between the cover 7 and the envelope f, is mounted on the studs 9- and bears, thanks to springs 14, against the face of the stuffing 4. The degree of compression can be be adjusted by nuts 11.
The stuffing deforma # bile 4 is compressed axially by means. -of Q'auneau 8, so that this packing 4 exerts a pressure in a radial direction towards the interior on the rings with segments 2.
Split rings. 3 made of carbon or other material with a low coefficient of friction, are interposed between the sealing rings 2 and the packing 4 to prevent the packing material 4 from passing through the interstices formed between the segments of the rings 2.
The split rings 3 are also used to distribute the tamping pressure uniformly over the rows. rings 2 ..
Springs 110 are arranged. between nuts. 15 and the cover 7, the lateral pressure thus exerted on the cover being applied to the rings 2 by means of a rubber washer 6 and two lateral cover plates 5 of suitable material. prayed,
prevent the rubber of the side washer 6 'from passing through the gaps between the segments. 2. On:
the other face of the rings with segments are interposed, in a similar manner, between the rings and the casing 1, a plate -de, covering 5i and a washer 6 of rubber.
The lateral pressure exerted as described above prevents leakage from the pressurized side along the side faces of the rubber washers 6, of the plates:
laterals 5 and segmenhs 2, the pressure being adjusted during assembly to a sufficiently low value to allow radial movement towards à'interérieuT segments 2 under. radiall pressure towards the interior - from the jam 4.
In addition, the nuts 11 are appropriately tightened on the secondary ring 8 by means of the springs 14, which ag @ ss, en1 through holes in the cover 7.
Thanks to # ù, #s means, the, axial pressure necessary is exerted on the packing 4 which transmits a pressure radiated inwards to the carbon rings 2 with segments and to the washers 6 in rubber.
The @ deformalble packing thus completes the seal around the rings 2: @ with segments., While the sealing pressure exerted on these rings presses the segments on the shaft 12 and makes a seal between said segments and the shaft .
To ensure that the split rings: 3 maintain a correct overlapping position with respect to the gaps between the segments 2, a locking pin 13, protruding from a segment 2, engages the gap located between the ends of the split ring 3: To reduce the depth of the gap in the split ring 3, the ends of this ring are cut or thinned as shown.
The modification of the embodiment shown in FIGS. 5, 6 -and 7 is to em ployer split sealing rings 2 instead of rings;
sqgpents. These. rings are eccentric to shaft 12 and the eccentricity is corrected by making split rings. 3 surrounding the rings 2, also eccentric with respect to these rings 2, as shown in FIGS. 6 -and 7. In this case, the outside conference of the.
cover rings 3 @ remains concentric with shaft l'2,
