Housing for electrical switching elements tightly closed by means of elastic sealing material. It is well known that electrical switching elements must be protected from the effects of the environment, in particular the humidity. For this reason, they are built into containers that have to be tightly connected to the parts that abut one another.
The most effective closure of the housing consists of soldering or welding, but this type of closure cannot always be used, for example when it comes to the frequently used aluminum housings that cannot be soldered. Often there are also difficulties in terms of soldering or welding Lich due to the nature of the built-in switching element when this z. B. is in undesirable chemical interaction with the solder, or is sensitive to excess temperatures.
However, for other purely constructive reasons, other types of closure are often used, which to achieve the necessary tightness use elastic sealants that are put under pressure between the abutting parts of the housing and due to their elastic properties a Evoke seal. The best known material for such seals is rubber.
As revealed in particular by high requirements, housings that are sealed using elastic sealants are not always usable because their degree of sealing does not correspond to that of soldering or welding.
In order to maintain the type of seal and improve its degree of sealing, constructions have been developed in which the sealing paths have been lengthened in order to be able to meet the requirements made by them. It was found that the degree of sealing can be increased as desired in this way, but after a longer observation period it was found that the initially adequate sealing deteriorated over time. Investigations have shown that, as a result of the pressure exerted on the sealing material, deformation of the elastic material, so-called cold flow, occurs over time, which causes the sealing pressure to wet and the degree of sealing to deteriorate.
In order to prevent the evasion of the sealing material and to maintain the sealing pressure that was initially present for a long time, according to the invention, the sealant is completely surrounded on all sides with rigid, firmly attached parts as counter-layers, which are at least partially housing parts. If a seal is built up in this way, a significantly greater degree of seal can be used from the outset, since the seal material cannot escape at will.
In addition, however, it is also not possible for the sealing material to evade over time, since it is firmly enclosed on all sides by counter-layers, so that the pressure exerted on it is essentially retained, which in further consequence the desired degree of sealing also remains constant .
An embodiment of the subject invention is explained in more detail with reference to the drawing. With a tubular housing, for example for an electrical capacitor's rule. The housing opening is tightly closed by a plug made of elastic material b, for example rubber. In order to prevent the sealing material b from evading the sealing pressure achieved by the rolling in of the housing edge c, the sealing material is completely enclosed on all sides by rigid, tightly fitting parts as counter-layers, which on the one hand consist of the housing extension d and also of the plate e and the cap-like throws exist.
In order to attach the plate securely in place, the housing is a bead. g provided. The flanging of the housing edge c does not take place. directly on the sealing material, as this would then have the possibility of evading, but on a flange-like approach h of the cap-like cover f, whereby a stau chung of the rubber plug b in the axial direction and thus a pressure in the radial direction is exerted perpendicularly on the housing wall .
Depending on the magnitude of this pressure, that is to say depending on the pressure with which the housing edge c is flanged, there is a correspondingly high degree of sealing of the closure.
The avoidance of the sealing material preventing rigid counter-layers can be made of metal; They can, however, also consist of electrical insulating materials, for example molded parts, in particular when the sealing material itself is an electrical insulator, for example for a current lead through. opposite to the housing. In this case, the choice of metal counter-supports would result in a short circuit.
