Description
Arc welding process using coated electrodes. The subject of claim I of the main patent is a method for arc welding by means of coated electrodes placed on the welding point, in which the arc and at least the burning part of the electrode are covered by a body that is adapted to the shape of the electrode so that it eats holds them in their position along the weld and the electrode is in contact with the workpiece on both sides of the elec- trode.
According to the invention, this method can also be used to weld with three-phase current by placing several encased electrodes connected to two different phases of a three-phase system under the cover body, and with the third phase. is connected to the workpiece. It has been shown that good weld seams can be achieved in this way, with the three-phase system being at least approximately evenly loaded. To carry out such welds, known, preferably controllable welding transformers or ballast impedances can be used.
Instead of a multi-phase transformer. A corresponding number of single-phase transformers can also be used.
In the following some exemplary embodiments of the process are explained with reference to the drawing. In Figs. 1 to 3, the workpieces to be connected with 1 and 2, the cover with 3, and the electrodes with 4 respectively. 5 designated. While in the arrangement of FIG. 1 the electrodes have the usual circular cross-section, FIG. 2 shows the use of encased electrodes with an angular cross-section that fit well into the weld joint. According to FIG. 3, the two electrodes are arranged one above the other.
4, 5 and 6 show coated double electrodes which can take the place of the two individual electrodes used according to the preceding figures. 7 and 8 show the application of the method for build-up welding by means of three-phase current. The phase R is on the workpiece, the phases S and T are shown in FIG. 7 with the first respectively. second half of the electrodes, according to FIG. 8 with the electrodes of odd numbers respectively. even ordinal number connected. For this and other purposes, double electrodes or multiple electrodes with more than two welding rods lying within a common sheath can be used. .
