Description
Process for the production of structures such as glasses, foils, plates and films made of synthetic resin.
In the production of layers, foils, plates and films from thermoplastic synthetic resin plasticizer compositions, corresponding mixtures are gelatinized either by pressure and increased temperature or by increasing the temperature alone, using a wide variety of known synthetic resins and plasticizers, such as e.g. B. polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride / vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride / vinylidene chloride, vinyl chloride / acrylic acid ester, vinyl chloride / methacrylic acid, vinyl chloride / vinyl carbazole etc., can be used in a wide variety of mixing ratios.
When setting the necessary optimal gelatinizing temperature and keeping it constant, difficulties have arisen particularly in the rapid regulation of the heat supply or removal. Since the physical and chemical properties of such structures largely depend on a uniform gelatinization temperature, it was desirable to find a more controllable and faster acting heat source.
The present invention now relates to a method which uses infrared rays as a heat source alone or as an easily controllable supplement to the conventional heating methods for such purposes.
The infrared radiation can be switched on at various points as a fabrication process, e.g. B. in the rolling mills, in the calenders, in the coating machines, in the gelatinizing plants, in the injection molding machines, etc.
While in the previously customary industrial use of infrared rays to dry paint layers, the temperature increase only causes the solvent to evaporate, in the present case an acceleration of the conversion from the coarsely dispersed state to the colloidal gel state has been achieved.
The method proposed here for the gelatinization of thin films of polyvinyl compounds with plasticizers on substrates such as paper, clothing, etc. In addition to the easy temperature regulation and precise metering of the heat supply, another advantage is that it is possible to use only the to heat the layer to be gelatinized without endangering temperature-sensitive carrier material (textiles, paper, etc.) even at gelatinizing temperatures of 200 and above.
Example:
A cellular wool fabric is coated on a coating machine with a film of around 100 g per m2 of a polyvinyl chloride butyl phthalate paste 1: 1. The synthetic resin film on the coated Sboff is soft, practically without strength and permeable to water.
If this polyvinyl chloride-butyl phthalate layer is exposed to infrared radiation for about 40 seconds, a mechanically very high-quality, elastic, flexible synthetic resin film is produced. The now water-impermeable material is ideal for the manufacture of rainwear of all kinds.
