Device for electrical measurement of the level of viscous liquids.
In the cement industry there has long been a need for a measuring device by means of which the depths of the sludge in the sludge silos can be ascertained in a convenient and reliable manner at any time. The liquid level in the various sludge silos changes continuously, so it is important for the operation that the level of the sludge in each container can be easily checked.
In contrast to silos for other goods (e.g. ores, coal, flour, etc.) it has not been possible until now to construct a reliable measuring device for sludge containers. The membrane switches that are otherwise used for the mentioned silos with other materials cannot be provided for sludge silos, as the sludge builds up and encrusts on the membrane holder in a short time, so that the membrane is ineffective ssig is used, it cannot be seen.
g¯fāt, since the sludge silos are blown through with compressed air from time to time, -which makes a proper functioning of a Sohwimmereinrichtung impossible.
The subject of the invention is now a device for electrical measurement g of the level of viscous liquids in a container. According to the invention, the measurement takes place in that at least one flat measuring wire inside the liquid container in the direction of its vertical
Axis is tensioned, which belongs to a circuit whose ohmic resistance is influenced by the liquid level.
Using the drawing, two exemplary embodiments of the subject matter of the invention are explained in more detail, namely, FIG. 1 shows a measuring device with two measuring wires and FIG. 2 shows a measuring device with three measuring wires inside the liquid container.
In FIG. 1, 1 denotes a sludge silo in which the respective level of the sludge must be measured. For this purpose, two bare measuring wires 2 are stretched along the entire height of the silo inside the silo 1.
These wires 2 are connected to an alternating current source 4 via a transformer 3. An ammeter is designated with 5.
With this arrangement, if the sludge height in the silo 1 changes, the current in the measuring wires 2 will also change accordingly, because the resistance formed by the amount of sludge between the measuring wires depends on the liquid level. The sludge resistance can easily be calculated in advance using known formulas, so that a direct display of the sludge height in meters is easily possible by appropriate calibration of the ammeter 5. A registration instrument can also be connected in place of a conventional pointer instrument.
The measuring wires 2 consist of a chromium-nickel iron alloy, so that they do not rust and are independent of the temperature. On the other hand, the sludge has a large temperature coefficient of resistance, and since the silo is not protected against fluctuations in the outside temperature, temperature variations in the sludge must be expected. Furthermore, changes in the specific contradiction. The level of the sludge and the transition resistance between wire and sludge occur, which, like the temperature changes, have an influence on the resistance measurement and can thus result in small errors.
In Fig. 2, therefore, a further measuring arrangement is shown by means of which the mentioned influence of the temperature on the resistance of the raw sludge can be compensated. At the same time, the change in the specific resistance of the sludge and the transition resistance between the measuring wires and the sludge is compensated for.
The measuring device according to Fig. 2 uses a bridge circuit, with two resistance elements 7, 8 of the bridge being located outside the silo 1, while the other two bridge resistances 9, 10 are provided by the three measuring wires 11 stretched within the silo along its entire height , 12 and the intermediate sludge are formed. The two measuring wires 11 run parallel, so that the resistance 10 changes proportionally with the height of the sludge. The third measuring wire 12 is arranged so that its distance from the wires 11 increases steadily from top to bottom. As a result, the resistor 9 deviates from the resistor 10 and the ratio of the two resistors changes continuously with the height of the mud.
The bridge is connected to an alternating current source 4 via the transformer 3. For the pre-calculation of the resistance of the bridge branches 9, 10, which are formed by the measuring wires 12, 11 and the mud, calculation methods for all cases are known from the literature. Only the specific resistance of the mud and the temperature coefficient of the wire material have to be determined. The ratio of resistance 9 to resistance 10 is constant for a constant sludge height when the temperature of the sludge fluctuates.
The current that is read on the ammeter 14 is therefore only dependent on the height of the sludge and the length of the wire. depending on, so that this instrument can in turn be used to directly display the respective sludge level in silo 1. A change in the specific resistance of the mud and the transition resistance between wire and mud due to encrustations is completely compensated for by this arrangement of the measuring wires, since such changes have exactly the same effect on both resistors 9, 10.
Instead of the obliquely running measuring wire 12, a wire parallel to the other can also be used if the wire thickness changes gradually or continuously over the entire wire length with a constant wire spacing.
The measuring devices illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2 can be simplified by the one measuring wire 2 respectively. 11 is replaced by the silo wall itself, provided, however, that this is made of electrically conductive material (e.g. iron).
The measuring devices described can also be designed for remote measurements, so that, for example, in a cement factory, where there are always several sludge silos, the respective status of each silo is displayed or registered in the manager's office. Furthermore, the measurements of the sludge level in the silos can also be used for the automatic control of various work steps, since some processes depend on an exact determination of the sludge level.
Although the exemplary embodiments described relate to measuring devices for sludge silos, the measuring device according to the invention can of course also be used for other viscous liquids.
