Lamp equipment for the heat treatment of metals by high frequency induced currents. The present invention, due to Mr. Grumel, relates to a lamp equipment for the thermal treatment of metals by induced currents at high frequency.
It is known that the induction heating at high frequency of a metal part, with a view to various treatments, such as quenching, welding, etc., is obtained by placing the part to be treated in a high frequency inductor or furnace, whose geometric shape depends on the shape of said part and the desired effect. This winding constituting this inductor must be traversed by a high frequency current of an intensity such that the field thus created is of sufficient value to induce by induction, in the part or part of the part treated, losses such as this one. reaches the desired temperature.
For many practical reasons, both mechanical and electrical, it is advantageous to produce heating inductors with a small number of turns and very often even with only one turn. These inductors will therefore have a very low reactance (very often much lower than the micro-henry), will bring back a payload resistance which is also very low (from tenth to thousandth of an ohm depending on the part to be treated and the frequency used), and must be therefore traversed by currents of very high intensity. As a result, in all use cases,
it will be necessary to pass through a step-down transformer for the supply of such inductors, a transformer whose secondary will generally have only one turn and must be connected to the inductor by extremely short connections to avoid inductive drops and losses by Joule effect.
In the case of a tube generator, the primary of the transformer will generally constitute the inductance of the oscillating circuit which will most often be the seat of a very high apparent power with regard to the useful power, so that the elements of oscillating circuit should also be grouped in the vicinity of the part to be treated.
If we now examine things from a practical point of view, we see that we will thus have to place against the part to be treated an important material, therefore cumbersome, which can be very troublesome in the case where the heat treatment is accompanied by mechanical operations, requiring an equally bulky lage tool. The situation is further complicated by the fact that all the portions of circuits brought to a dangerous voltage for the personnel must be enclosed in a protective casing.
Finally, in the event that the heat treatment operation is interposed in a production line, it is important that if a significant damage occurs in the high frequency generator, the replacement of the defective elements can be done very quickly, in order to immobilize the chain as short as possible.
These different desiderata are satisfied by the apparatus, which is the subject of the invention. This apparatus comprises a heating inductor supplied by a secondary circuit inductively coupled with the self inductance of the oscillating circuit of a high frequency generator with electronic lamps.
This apparatus is characterized in that the self inductance and the capacitor of said oscillating circuit, the reaction coil between holding the oscillations of the oscillating circuit, the secondary circuit and the heating inductor are united in the same assembly. work, while the lamps and accessories of the high frequency generator constitute another set which can be placed at a distance from the work set. The appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the apparatus forming the subject of the invention.
Fig. 1 is a general schematic view thereof.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are elevation views, in profile and in plan, of the working assembly that this apparatus comprises.
Fig. 5 is a schematic view of the inductor with partial section. Figs. 6 and 7 schematically show two examples of application of the apparatus described.
In the embodiment shown, 1 is an inductor winding constituting a high frequency furnace; 2 is a transformer, 2a being the secondary winding of use, 2b the primary winding forming an oscillating circuit inductor, 2c an auxiliary winding giving the voltage in phase opposition with. the primary voltage necessary to maintain the oscillations; 3 is an oscillating circuit capacitor. These different elements form a working unit and are placed in an armored trolley 10.
4 is an oscillation maintenance lamp arranged with its auxiliary circuits in a separate cabinet 20.
Figs. 2, 3, 4 respectively give the profile, front and plan views of the entire carriage. In fig. 2 and fig. 4, the closure panels are assumed to be removed.
2 represents the high-frequency ironless transformer and 3 the α-type capacitor. compressed gas. The front of the carriage can be equipped with a very rigid mounting panel 5, provided with grooves (similar to a milling machine plate, for example) which allow easy and quick mounting of the heating inductors and handling tools. In the center of this panel is the output of the secondary of the transformer by two pads 6.
In the plan view of FIG. 4, we can clearly see the particular shape of this carriage, the front of which is tapered to release the region of the heating inductor as much as possible. The carriage is carried by track rollers 7. Jacks 8 make it possible to immobilize the carriage and to adjust its height if necessary.
The electrical and hydraulic connections between the trolley and the rest of the equipment are made by flexible pipes connecting, depending on the case, either from below the trolley and passing in a gutter, or from above and passing overhead. When the apparatus is used for quenching, the mounting panel 5 can receive a tank 9, into which the quench liquid falls. This tank, which has no walls on the side of the carriage, rests at its base on a gutter 11, through which the liquid falls into the tank. It is fixed to the panel 5 using hooks, which gives the possibility of removing it instantly and facilitating as much as possible the dismantling of the inductors and the tools.
Lateral sealing is simply obtained by vertical grooves forming baffles.
Some peculiarities in the realization of the electric circuits should be noted: the primary of the transformer is composed of two cylindrical windings 2b1 and 2b2 arranged end to end coaxially and joined in parallel according to fig. 5, the midpoint being earthed.
The winding 2b1 is at the right pitch, the other, 2b2, at the left pitch, so that the fluxes produced are additive. Two main advantages result from this arrangement: 1. It is at the center of the winding, that is to say in the region of the most intense field, that the voltage is weakest, which makes it possible to have, in this part, a secondary winding 2a, of smaller height than the primary, but very close to the latter, and thus to achieve as large a coupling coefficient as possible.
2. These circuits, which are the seat of a large apparent power in view of their dimensions, must be completely cooled by circulating water, including the connections and terminals. Consequently, the following device is produced: the oscillating circuit capacitor 3 is equipped with a concentric terminal system (fig. 5), the outer part of which, connected to an armature, is earthed; the central part, connected to the other frame, is carried to the high potential.
On the other hand, the winding of the transformer primary is made in tubes. These tubes are extended individually for each 1/2 primary until they are connected to the capacitor terminal, according to fig. 5.
The cooling is then ensured under the following conditions: the water arrives at A (consequently on a grounded point), cools the corresponding zone of the external part of the capacitor terminal, by short the i / 2 primary 2b1, enters the central part C of the terminal which is made up of two concentric tubes, - goes back through.
the other i / primary 2b2, returns to the outer part of the terminal, cooling the corresponding zone and comes out at B, that is to say at an earthed point, no water pipe insulation thus not being expected.
For documentary purposes, two non-limiting examples of particular cases or of use of the apparatus described above will be given.
1. Bench for the treatment of very long parts, such as rails, tubes, etc., with a view to surface hardening of hard solder, hot drawing, etc.
The installation is shown in fig. 6. 12 represents a handling or shaping bench; 13 is the armored trolley of the apparatus and 14 is the cabinet containing the oscillation maintenance lamps with their auxiliary circuits; 1 is the heating coil, 16 the part being processed.
2. Quenching facility. It is known that the heating time of a part to be quenched represents only a small part of the total time necessary for the complete cycle of operations, the rest of the time being used for the actual quenching (sprinkling) and for handling. To allow better use of maintenance lamps, the wear of which depends essentially on the total ignition time of their filament, it is advantageous to be able to supply several working assemblies with them alternately.
Such an installation is shown in FIG. 7; in 15 are arranged several armored carriages (three in the case of the figure), in 16 the cabinet containing the maintenance lamps. A general automatic distributor (not shown) alternately connects the lamps to each of the carriages; as soon as the heating operation is completed on one of them, the lamps are automatically connected to the next one, while the actual hardening and handling operations are completed on the previous carriages.
The flow of operations can be either fully automatic or semi-automatic and subject to the control of the operator (s); a signaling system is provided to indicate the state of switching at all times.
