The compounds of the formula (1) are prepared by reacting a furan-2,5-dicarboxylic acid dihalide with a compound of the formula R-H, in which R has the meaning given.
The ready-to-use agents for combating harmful bacteria on textile material which contain compounds of the formula (1) can also be prepared and used in the usual, known manner. What is particularly valuable about the new products is the broad spectrum of antibacterial activity that extends to both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The odorlessness and colorlessness of the compounds of the formula (1) are of particular value from an application point of view. The use is possible on a very broad basis, in particular for protecting textile substrates against attack by destructive and pathogenic bacteria.
The compounds of formula (1) are therefore suitable both as preservatives and as disinfectants for textiles and technical products in the textile industry.
Among the technical products. which can be preserved with the help of compounds of the formula (1), the following are selected as examples: textile auxiliaries or finishing agents and preparations based on organic and inorganic rule dyes or pigments, including those which are admixed with casein or contain other organic compounds.
Furthermore, compounds of the formula (1) can be used for preserving and disinfecting fibers and textiles, whereby they can be applied to natural and artificial fibers and there develop a permanent effect against harmful (also pathogenic) bacteria. The addition can be before, at the same time with, or after a treatment of these textiles with other substances such. B. color or printing pastes, finishes, etc., take place.
Textiles treated in this way also have protection against the occurrence of sweat odor, as is caused by bacteria.
Furthermore, by combining compounds of the formula (1) with detergents or surface-active substances, detergents and cleaning agents with excellent antibacterial properties are obtained. These connections can be, for. B. can be incorporated into soaps, combined with soap-free, detergent or surface-active substances or with mixtures of soaps and scifcn-free detergent-active substances, with their antibacterial effectiveness being retained to a full extent in these combinations.
The compounds of formula (1) can be applied to textile material to be protected in various ways, for. B. by impregnation or loading with solutions or suspensions containing the ge compounds mentioned as active ingredients. The active ingredient content can be between 1 and 30 g of active ingredient per liter of treatment liquid, depending on the application. Textile materials of both synthetic and natural origin are mostly protected against bacterial attack by a content of 0.1 to 3 T: active ingredient. The active substance can be used together with other textile auxiliaries such as finishing agents, anti-crease treatments, etc.
The use forms can correspond to the customary formulations of pesticides, for example ready-to-use compositions containing compounds of the formula (1), optionally also additives such as carriers, solvents, diluents, dispersants, wetting agents or adhesives, etc. and others Pesticides, e.g. B. fungicidal or fungistatic agents contain.
Determination of the Minimum Hentm Concentration [MIC] against Bacteria The MIC (minimal inhibitory concentration) is determined according to a test based on standard norms, which allows an approximation to the absolute minimum inhibitory values of an active ingredient.
Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus mitis are used as test organisms.
The minimum inhibitory concentration against Styphylococcus aureus is determined in the dilution test, that against Streptococcus mitis in the gradient plate test.

Samples of 100 g of wool cheviot are treated in the same way.
The fabrics dried at 30 to 40 ", C contain 0.1 \ active ingredient, based on their own weight.
To test the action against bacteria, discs with a diameter of 10 mm are placed on the impregnated tissue [without water and, after soaking for 24 hours at 29 ° C., on glucose agar plates which have been inoculated with Staphylococcus aureus 37 C incubated.
On the one hand, the inhibition zone [HZ in mm] that occurs around the roundels and, on the other hand, the growth [W 90] that can be microscopically determined under the roundels is assessed:
