Description

Bearing shell. There are devices in which shafts rotating at a certain speed are housed in such a way that it is impossible to lubricate them. Hitherto in such bearings, shells of special composition containing certain minerals, in particular graphite, and which, besides a certain retention, offered the advantage of not requiring any lubrication. The duration of these stages is however subordinated to the operating conditions and more especially to the heating conditions.

They also had the fault of being very poor conductors of heat. The latter was communicated mainly to the rotating shaft in the bearings in question, which, depending on the case, could not be tolerated. These bearings could therefore not become in common use wherever, for one cause or another, lubrication could not take place.

The object of the present invention is to provide a bearing shell which offers, besides the advantages of those which have been described above, that is to say of not requiring oil, that of sufficiently conducting the heat and thus allow the evacuation of that produced by the work absorbed by the bearing in the frame of the apparatus itself.

The attached drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of a bearing shell according to the invention.

Fig. 1 is an elevational view thereof in the direction of the axis of the bearing.

Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof and FIG. 3 a section along line III-III of FIG. 2.

The shell shown includes a bronze coin, but this coin could also be split into two. The internal useful surface of this shell is made up of those of a succession of metallic parts 1 and of parts in a solid lubricating composition 2. The latter are formed inside cavities 3 made in the thickness of the part. bronze. In the embodiment shown, the parts in lubricating composition are parallel to the axis of the shell.

It could be otherwise. The cavities could have a different profile. The shell could be formed of isolated metal elements, joined together by a binder consisting of a solidified lubricating composition; the metallic elements acting: 10 as bearing surfaces, 20 as thermal conductors allows both. transmission of the. heat from the shaft to the frame body.
