Disjoncteur.
Circuit breaker. It is important to increase the tripping speed in small circuit breakers, because the breaking capacity of the device and the selectivity with circuit breakers placed in series depend on it.
While using an efficient magnetic blower, an attempt is made to minimize the disjunctor time constant. To achieve this goal, attempts have been made to use the kinetic energy of the magnetic shutter during operation to accelerate the movement of the contacts.
Thus, for example, this attempt has been made for small circuit breakers comprising a toggle lock, in the sense that the magnetic shutter, after having pushed this knee beyond, from the neutral point, still acts on the latter. By the nature of the mechanism of this toggle, this acceleration is transmitted only partially to the support of the movable contacts.
The term “lock” designates, in general, the mechanism interposed between the order -de. Manual or automatic control and the contact support.
By another device, the lock is triggered @de, the lock by the start of the movement of the magnetic shutter and, -in the second part, of the stroke, the shutter enters the: contact support via the lock.
The current state of the matter shows the important influence of the reduction in inertia on the time constant: of the circuit breaker. When the complete lock is interposed between the shutter and the contact support, the inertia is such that the action of the shutter is completely canceled and an increase in the acceleration of the contacts is practically non-existent.
The present invention aims to remedy these drawbacks and relates to a circuit breaker of the type comprising a magnetic shutter for instantaneous tripping and a thermal trip for delayed tripping.
This circuit breaker is characterized in that it comprises a lock having a knee lère formed by two links capable of passing from a position of equilibrium corresponding to the engagement and in which the links are in alignment with a position corresponding to the release. and in which said links form an angle between them, a movable contact support cooperating with said lock so as to close and respectively open the circuit to be controlled for these two positions of the links, the whole being arranged such that , for delayed tripping, the thermal trip unit only acts on the knee switch and that,
for instantaneous tripping, 'the magnetic shutter acts, on the one hand, on the toggle and, on the other hand, directly on the movable contact support, the movement of which tends to separate the contacts.
The single figure of the appended drawing shows, by way of example, one embodiment of the circuit breaker according to the invention.
In this embodiment, 1 designates a control handle for manually switching on and off the circuit breaker. This handle actuates a lever 2, one end of which is articulated on a fixed part of the circuit breaker and of which the. middle part carries a link 3. Another link 4 forms with the. rod 3 a knee joint whose articulation comprises an ankle 18. An elbow lever 5, pivoted â. its part bent around a fixed point, is connected by one end to the rod 4 and by the other end to a mobile contact support 6 7, cooperating with a fixed contact 8.
This support 6 comprises a threaded part onto which are screwed two nuts forming a stop 21.
On each side of the contacts 7 and 8 are arranged coils 9 and 10, the magnetic flux of which causes the blowing of the arc appearing between said contacts. These coils are magnetically coupled by means of an iron bridge 11. Coil 1.0 is also used as a tripping coil and acts on a magnetic core 19 integral with a shutter 12, pivoting at a fixed point of the circuit breaker. The coils and the circuit breaker components are protected against the effects of the arc by a chamber 13 made of refractory material.
The rod 4 has a stop 20 cooperating with the shutter 12, as will be described later.
The circuit breaker described is engaged as follows: By actuating the, handle 1, the mobile contact support 6 7 is pushed down against the fixed contact 8, by means of the lever 2, of the. ; wet 3, 4, and the elbow lever 5. In this position, the rods 3 and 4 are in alignment in a position of equilibrium and a spring 14 is tensioned, biasing the elbow lever 5.
The circuit breaker can be tripped in two different ways: either by a thermal release for delayed tripping during a slow overload, or by the magnetic shutter for instantaneous tripping, during a short-circuit for example.
The thermal trigger comprises a bimetallic blade 15 which, during overloading, deforms upwards and releases an angled lever 17 biased by a spring 16. An arm 17cz of the lever 17 then strikes against the. ankle 18 of the toggle, thus breaking the balance of the links 3 and 4. The spring 14 relaxes, bringing the toggle lock into the tripping position by separating the contacts 7 and 8.
In the case of instantaneous tripping, the core 19 is attracted by the coil 10 excited by the short-circuit current, and the flap 12 hits the stop 20 of the rod 4, which has the effect of breaking the balance of the knee pad.
The time constant. of the circuit breaker, i.e. the time that elapses between the start of the short-circuit until the separation of the contacts depends on the one hand on the mechanical and magnetic conditions of the shutter and on the other Apart from the speed with which the toggle and all the components involved in the tripping movement move without the impulse of the spring 14. For a short circuit, this tripping movement is appreciably more. slow than that of the magnetic shutter.
This property is used by making the valet 12 act on the stop 21 which is adjusted with respect to the stop 20, so that the shutter strikes directly on the stop 21 as soon as it has moved the toggle 3, 4 beyond the neutral point. By this precaution, the time constant is reduced to its minimum value.
Under .the: shock of the shutter, of contact support 6 receives an additional acceleration which has a. favorable effect on the duration of the arc extinction. The role of the trigger spring 14 is only to return the contact support to its end-of-travel position and to hold it there.
The lock comprises an articulated parallelogram formed by the links 3 and 4, the elbow lever 5 and the movable contact support 6, this parallelogram being provided such that the stop 20 of the connecting rod 4 and the stop 21 of the support 6 are juxtaposed in the action area of the magnetic shutter. This arrangement, of minimal bulk, can be housed in small circuit breakers and allows the advantageous use of the kinetic energy of said shutter.
The 22- thread of the contact support 6 makes it possible to adjust the stop nuts: 21 to a determined height and thus to vary the time interval between the actuation: of the. displacement of said movable contact support, that is to say to vary the time constant of the circuit breaker. This adjustment possibility makes it possible to grant selectivity between the circuit breaker and fuses or other circuit breakers placed in series.
