Description

  Method of attaching weather strip.

The present invention relates to a method for attaching sealing strips made of porous rubber, the top layer of which is made smokable by the action of organic liquids before use. The method is characterized in that the sealing strips made of porous rubber, to which a cover layer of non-adhesive film formers is applied in the dry state, are moistened with organic solvents that are likely to dissolve the film formers. able to swell, but not solve the porous rubber.

Such adhesives are primarily resins, synthetic resins, lacquer-like substances such as cellulose esters or ethers. As: Liquids making the adhesive effective, alcohol or gasoline can be used.

The rubber strip made of porous rubber can be made of so-called foam rubber. The foam rubber, which is a type of sponge rubber, is highly elastic and significantly less compressible than sponge rubber. Its absorbency is poor. The pores of the foam rubber are of various sizes, but on average small. They only partially form connected channels, but for the most part closed spaces. The volume of the solid rubber mass is larger in relation to the air space than with sponge rubber.

The adhesives can be applied to the weather strip in any manner, e.g. B. the adhesives are in volatile solvents, e.g. B. alcohol, dissolved and applied by spraying or with the help of a roller on the sealing strip and the solvent removed by evaporation ent. Since these: Adhesives have no binding force after removal of the solvent or swelling agent in the cold, the sealing strips are stable in storage and handling without special protective layers.

If, however, the sealing strip is to be glued on, a volatile organic solvent or swelling agent for the adhesive or mixtures of such agents is applied to the adhesive layer beforehand, but optionally also applied to the surface to be provided with the sealing strip, and the adhesive is then carried out. After the solvent or swelling agent has evaporated, the sealing strip adheres firmly to the desired surface. The activation of the adhesive can also take place by spraying on the solvent or swelling agent by applying the latter with the aid of a roller.
