Metal propeller blade with heating device and method of making the same. The invention relates to a metal air screw blade with heating device, and a method for producing the same.
The prevention of ice accumulation on propellers generally causes greater difficulties than on parts fixed to the aircraft. Inflatable rubber hoses, as they are often used in aircraft-fixed parts, are out of the question for propellers. To some extent, people have helped themselves by applying liquids that are suitable to prevent ice accumulation. However, the success of this solution was insufficient. Another way of heating metal propellers has already been chosen, namely by placing a heat-generating electrical resistance heating element in the screw hub.
The heat generated in this radiator was communicated to the helical blades by conduction and spread through them. Since it spread over the entire cross-section of the screw blades, a considerable amount of heat was required to achieve the desired warming of the leading edge, which is important.
For this reason, the known heating device described has proven to be very economical. The same is the case when the heating conductor is wrapped in the form of a thin tape over the entire screw. This embodiment is also easily injured (for example by falling rocks when .Start), since a heating conductor arranged in this way must be very thin for obvious aerodynamic reasons.
According to the invention, the metal propeller blade is equipped with a heating element which has the shape of an elongated wire and is at least partially embedded in a recess along the leading edge of the propeller blade. This design of the heating device enables a considerable saving of energy for heating, since only those parts are heated whose heating is absolutely necessary to achieve the desired purpose.
The return of the electrical current sent through the heating conductor can take place via the mass of the screw blade. However, it may be desirable to keep this electricity free. In this case, a special return line can be provided. Advantageously, the return line for the heating current is arranged immediately below the heating conductor in a recess covered by this total screw blade. This arrangement has the advantage that the heat developed in the return conductor essentially benefits the leading edge area of the screw blade.
When the heating conductor is arranged on the surface of the screw blade, such an insulating material is expediently selected for electrical insulation, which is used to avoid heat emission. .The surrounding parts of the screw blade is also highly thermally insulating. When the heating conductor is arranged below the surface of the screw blade, however, the electrical insulator is expediently designed in such a way that the resistance for the heat flow on the side of the leading edge is as small as possible and that on the opposite side is as coarse as possible.
This can be done either by selecting the appropriate material for the insulation or by appropriately measuring the same.
To accommodate the heating conductor running along the edge of the A stepping edge in the screw blade, a forwardly open groove with over the final profile outline of the screw blade protruding edges can first be made at the stepping edge or near it and this can be completed after inserting the heating conductor with its insulation to the outside . This can e.g. B. by cementing, caulking, possibly by welding. Advantageously, the edges of the groove are equipped with too much material and in this case, after the groove has been closed, a machining process is carried out so that a very smooth profile is obtained.
The prescribed method makes it possible to accommodate a return line insulated from the screw without difficulty by looping the heating wire in the groove at the leading edge.
The accompanying drawing illustrates various embodiments of the subject matter of the invention. It shows: FIG. 1 a cross section through a screw blade with a conductor of circular cross section lying on the entry edge, FIG. 2 a cross section through a screw blade with a heating conductor of T-shaped cross section provided at the entry edge, FIG a cross section through a screw blade showing a groove for receiving a heating conductor, Fig. 4 a cross section through the screw blade according to FIG. 3 after the heating conductor is introduced and the groove is closed, FIG. 5 shows a cross section through the screw blade of Fig.
3, the heating conductor including the return conductor are placed in the groove and this is closed.
In all embodiments, the screw blades are made of metal. According to FIG. 1, the heating conductor 3 is provided with a circular cross section in the region of the leading edge 2 of the screw blade 1. This extends along the leading edge. It lies in a recess 4 of the screw body and is embedded in it by means of a strong insulation 5. Part of the heat conductor forms the .Sehraubenblatt- surface on the leading edge. The material of the electrical insulation 5 is chosen and the insulation is dimensioned in such a way that, in addition to electrical insulation, there is also sufficient thermal insulation.
In this way it is prevented that a greater part of the heat developed in the heating conductor 3 th heat is withdrawn from its actual purpose of heating the leading edge and spreads over the mass of the screw blade 1.
The embodiment according to FIG. 2 differs in this. from that of FIG. 1 that the heating conductor .3 has a T-shaped cross section and is anchored in the grooves 4 of dovetailed cross section with the interposition of a correspondingly shaped insulation 5.
While the heating conductor in the Ausfüh approximate standards according to FIGS. 1 and 2 are on the surface, the heating conductor 3 in the embodiment of FIG. 4 is net angeord inside the screw blade body 1, namely in, near the leading edge 2. The The insulation 5 provided in this case is also selected and dimensioned so that the main heat flow goes to the leading edge 2. Both the suitable choice of material for the. Insulating material and the appropriate dimensioning of the. Strength of the insulation are means of making the resistance to the flow of heat on the side of the leading edge as small as possible and that on the opposite side as large as possible.
In general, any known insulating materials can be used. In order to achieve increased thermal conductivity, those with appropriate additives known from the construction of electrical machines can be used.
3 to 5 illustrate ver different phases in the introduction of a heating conductor laid within the screw blade. Fig. 3 shows the screw sheet 1 with the groove 4 in the area of a stepping edge. The groove edges 7 project over the final profile. Such a design has the advantage that after the edges 7 have been bent over for the purpose of closing the groove, there is still material that enables the screw blade to be reworked at the leading edge to the desired profile while removing chips.
4 and 5 show a further Sta medium in the workflow when introducing the heating conductor. The heating conductor 3 with the insulation 5 has been inserted into the groove 4. The edges 7 have then been turned over. They are caulked or cemented at the joint. The caulking can also be supplemented by welding. Thanks to these measures, the heating conductor is reliably closed from the outside.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the heating conductor 3 is shown as the only conductor with a smaller cross section. The return line, the heating current, occurs in this case through the mass of the screw blade body 1.
Fig. 5 illustrates another embodiment. In this case, two conductor cross-sections 3 and 6 can be seen in the recess 4, which are surrounded by the insulating material 5. The conductor 3 is the actual heating conductor, while the conductor 6 is used to return the heating current. The conductors 3 and 6 normally form a unit and represent only two parts of a conductor bent in a loop at the outer end of the screw blade. The heating current comes from the hub of the propeller. This he is z. B. leads supplied via slip rings.
