05 bis 0,5 % be- tragen.

Process for the production of objects that must have high fatigue strength. There are already chromium-containing steel alloys known to which nitrogen has been added to reduce the grain size or to improve the toughness properties, or in which the hardenability or the austenitic state should be promoted by adding nitrogen. It has also been proposed to reduce the grain size in chromium-containing steels by adding vanadium, tungsten or other metals and thus improve the toughness properties.
It has now been found that the simultaneous addition of vanadium on the one hand and nitrogen on the other hand can achieve a considerable improvement in the fatigue strength of chromium-containing steel alloys with 0.01 to 1% carbon and 6 to 35% chromium,
bezw when adding vanadium. Nitrogen alone cannot be observed. This finding is all the more surprising as the fatigue strength generally decreases with decreasing grain size. The best carbon contents are between 0.01 and 0.6%, the best chromium contents between 8 and 25 0/0.
The vanadium content should be 0.2 to 4%, especially 0.4 to 2% and the nitrogen content 0.02 to 1.0%, especially 0,
05 to 0.5%. In addition, the alloys can contain up to 35% nickel and / or cobalt and up to 25% manganese,
However, a maximum of 40% of these metals in total can be added if an austenitic or predominantly austenitic structure is desired.
Furthermore, the addition of up to 2% tungsten, up to 3% silicon, molybdenum or other elements which increase the heat resistance or durability has proven advantageous. However, this does not include those elements that, such. B. form aluminum, titanium, zirconium, nitrides, which are practically insoluble in the alloys at high temperatures in the solid state.
It is therefore advisable to refrain from using such elements altogether or to only add them in very small amounts.
The following table of figures shows the technical advantage given by the simultaneous addition of vanadium on the one hand and nitrogen on the other hand with regard to the creep strength. The fatigue strength is the load in kg / mm, which in the 25th to 35th hour of loading has an expansion speed of less than 10 #x, 10-F, 'o hours and a permanent elongation after 45 hours of results in less than 0.2.

when the objects made from the alloys are put into operation at high temperatures.
In addition to excellent fatigue strength, the alloys mentioned have good resistance to rusting, acids and chemical attack at elevated temperatures, as well as favorable mechanical properties, in particular good toughness properties at room temperature. They are therefore suitable for all purposes for which, in addition to the specified properties, a high fatigue strength is required, e.g. B. for turbine construction, steam boiler construction, for apparatus parts for cracking and hydrogenation of petroleum and for the synthesis of .Ammoniak, gasoline and the like.
