Alliage d'aluminium.
Aluminum alloy. Aluminum alloys containing zinc, magnesium and copper as main addition elements are well known; they have been studied extensively because their characteristics are relatively high, although in fact not much better than those of Al-Zn alloys with high Zn content.
The present invention is based on the extremely surprising fact, observed by the Applicant, that the addition of small amounts of chromium to these Al-Zn-Mg-Cu alloys has the effect of raising in a quite manner. unexpectedly the mechanical characteristics of these alloys. An addition between 0.01 and 2% is sufficient. This proportion obviously depends on the contents of the alloy in the other constituents.
The invention therefore relates to an aluminum alloy, characterized in that it contains 70 to 97.5% aluminum, 0.5- to 15% zinc, 1.55 to 7% magnesium, 0, 3 to 5% copper and 0.01 to 2% chromium. The alloy may still contain nickel, which plays a role similar to that of copper, but the content of copper and nickel together should not be more than 5%, as in the case of copper alone, i.e. - say that the alloy then contains 70 to 97.5% aluminum, 0.5 to 15% zinc, 1.55 </ B> 7% magnesium,
copper and nickel together up to 5%, the copper content being at least 0.3 @% and 0.01 to 2% chromium.
It is understood that the alloy contains impurities which are impossible to avoid, which are always contained in technical metallurgical products, even when, possibly, they have been chosen from among the purest possible.
The mixture constituting the alloy according to the invention can be prepared in any suitable manner. Chromium can be incorporated into the base alloy (Al-Zn-Mg-Cu or Al-Zn-Mg-Cu-Ni) by all the usual technical means such as, for example:
by adding the metal itself, or an aluminum-chromium parent alloy or an aluminum-based parent alloy containing, in addition to chromium, other constituents of the alloy, or an alloy of chromium with one or more of the other constituents. Chromium in the form of salts can also be incorporated into the base alloy, from which chromium is liberated by double reaction with the liquid metal bath.
The alloy according to the invention may contain addition elements known to refine the grain and facilitate plastic deformations, such as Zr, V, Ti, the total of these addition elements being between 0.01 and 1% of the alloy.
Likewise, it is possible to use, for these alloys, casting processes or specially known liners to avoid or reduce the extent of segregation.
The alloy according to the invention can be used after heat treatment consisting of setting. solution, complete or partial, by heating the duration of which depends, as is known, on the structure and on the composition, and the temperature of which is between 350 ° C. and the commenting melting point; this heating is followed by a sudden cooling; this can be carried out in air, in oil or in water.
This heat treatment can be supplemented by a precipitation treatment carried out by heating to a temperature not higher than. 400 C, and whose. duration will vary depending on the desired characteristics of the alloy.
By way of example, the following compositions may be cited: Example 1: The alloy contains: Mo, 21.5%, Zn 8.4%, Cu 1.5 %, Cr 0.4%, AI = substantially the rest. It is brought to the state of sheets 1 mm thick, by hot rolling, then cold. These sheets are heated to 460 C for 2 hours, then soaked in water. They have the following characteristics: Breaking load: 46 kg / mm2; elastic limit: 29.5 kg / mm2; elongation: 9.5 Brinell hardness: 94.
The same alloy, after pre cipitation treatment at. 12'5 C for 10 hours, gave: Breaking load: 73 kg (mm =; elastic limit: 69 kg / mm2; elongation: 5%; of the Brinell retainer: 170.
Example 2: The alloy contains: Mg 1.9%, Zn 8%, Cu 1.5%, Cr 0; 25%, Al = substantially the rest. It is press-spun into round bars, homogenized by heating at 460 C for two hours, then quenched in water. It has the following characteristics: Breaking load: 47 kg /, mm; elastic limit: 31 kg / mm '; elongation: 14%. The same alloy, after precipitation treatment at 125 C for 10 hours, gave: Breaking load: 65.4; elastic limit: 61 l @ g / mm2; elongation: 9.5%.
Example 3: An alloy similar to that of example 1, but in which half of the copper has been replaced by nickel, that is to say an aluminum alloy with 2.5% Mg, 8.4% Zn, (), 75% Cu, 0.7% Ni and 0.4% Cr was rolled into 1mm thick sheets by hot rolling cold rolling follow-up.
These sheets were heated at 460 C for 2 hours, then soaked in water; they have the following characteristics: Breaking load: 45.5 kg / mm '; elastic limit: 29 kg / mm '' '; elongation: 9%; Brinell hardness: 95.
After precipitation treatment at 125 C for 10 hours, the characteristics became: Load, breaking: 70.5 kg / mm; elastic limit: 68 kg / mm =; elongation: 4.5%; Brinell hardness: 170.
The Brinell hardness at 2'25 C is 11à, while that of the alloy cited in Example 1 is 97.
