Process for drying printed surfaces, in particular in multi-color gravure printing machines and iV multi-color gravure printing machines. The invention relates to a method for drying printed surfaces, in particular in multi-color gravure printing machines, and a multi-color gravure printing machine. The difficulties in drying printed surfaces, especially in multi-color gravure printing machines, in which one print run is soon followed by the next, is that only a very short drying path is available, since the machine must be built as short as possible.
As a result, the known means, such as the Aufbla sen of warm or cold air, or the arrangement of heating elements, may not be sufficient.
It is also already known to use infrared rays during the drying of painted objects, which in themselves cause rapid drying. However, these rays also cause the printed surfaces to heat up to a certain extent, which is why their sole use for drying printed surfaces is not recommended for printing and register reasons.
It is also known to heat a printed web made of a transparent fabric on the unprinted side by infrared rays and to cause an air movement on the printed side, which is intended to remove the air which has taken up the medium expelled by the drying NEN from the paint solvent. In such a process, in which the rays have to penetrate the printed material in order to even achieve a drying effect, the radiation energy is weakened and the drying energy is used by the parts of the printed material that are in front of the printing ink Part absorbed.
According to the invention, the method is carried out using infrared rays and air in such a way that the infrared rays and the blown air are directed onto the printed side of the surfaces.
The fact that the blown air acts on the same side of the printed material as the infrared rays also causes dye solvent vapors that are inflammable and explosive if they are heated in concentrated form or come into contact with heated surfaces, are weakened in their concentration as they arise, and the rays are no longer able to cause inadmissible heating of the material. This in turn enables a precise register, because any change in the areas to be printed as a result of temperature fluctuations would also cause differences with regard to the matching of the different colors in the print, i.e. in the register.
In the case of the multicolor Tiefdriicli- machine, which is also the subject of the invention, for performing the method, according to the invention, the printed web is now respectively Printed sheet air inflation means arranged in the immediate vicinity of the infrared lamps. Before geous that happens in such a way that the infrared lamps are framed by the air inflation means.
It is particularly useful if the switching of the infrared lamps and the air inflation means is done in such a way that the infrared lamps can only be switched on simultaneously with or after the inflation means and only switched off simultaneously with or before the air inflation means. Furthermore, a thermostat. or the like be arranged, which actuates a switch to shut down the machine and turn off the infrared lamps in the event of inadmissible heating of the irradiated machine parts.
In the drawing, a multicolor gravure printing machine for performing the inventive method is shown, for example.
c In the example shown, a sheet transport drum a provided with a gripper system e conveys a sheet b from the first printing unit, consisting essentially of the cylinders c, to the next, essentially from the cylinders. d existing Drucl @ aggregate. Between the sheet transport drum a and the printing units c respectively. d a further drum f is connected.
Rows of infrared lamps g are arranged above the sheet transport drum a. The length of each row of lamps corresponds to the maximum width of the sheet to be printed. Nozzles li are arranged between and next to the infrared lamps g, which also extend over the entire width of the sheet and through which the cooling air is blown. The nozzles are fed from a common housing i, to which the cooling air is fed through the line k.
At the end of the machine, which of course could have even more printing units, between which infrared lamps g and blow nozzles li are arranged over a sheet transport drum <I> a </I>. a chain boom l is arranged, above which infrared lamps <I> g </I> and air nozzles h are provided in a corresponding manner.
The sheet transport drum a and the other machine parts that are under the action of the infrared lamps g, can also be or through the inside of the drum NEN. of the machine in question partly conducted cooling water are cooled.
