Means for combating the bee mite. It has already been proposed to eradicate vermin and other pests, including from ge mite species, sulfur dioxide respectively. Sulfur dioxide releasing agents, if necessary in combination with other insecticidal substances, to be used.
For example, it has been recommended to control such pests by using mixtures of mineral acids or their acidic salts with salts which split off sulphurous acid in viscous substances or mixtures of hydrosulphites, sulphoxylates or bisulphites with chlorides and chlorates, distributed in non-drying pastes bring to.
These agents should be regularly applied directly to the site of the infestation; on the affected areas or by closing or filling the hiding places without regard to dosage and concentration.
For the control of the bee mite, which is mainly found in the respiratory organs (trachea) of the bees, these control agents and methods of control prove to be completely unsuitable, because under the given conditions the host animal infected by this pest is not only the mite would perish.
Rather, what matters here is to measure the SO development so low, but at the same time even and long-lasting, that the mite in: the trachea - the bee is killed or at least inhibited in its vital activity and reproduction, but no damage of the infested colonies.
It has now been shown that this effect can be achieved if the agent forming the subject of the present invention is used to control the mite. This: consists of a dry mixture, the substance emitting at least one sulfur dioxide and at least a chloride of a metal of the 1st
Subgroup of the IL group of the periodic system, the atomic weight of which is at least 4.3 and at most 137.37, the chloride being distributed on a carrier,
which is chemically indifferent to both the chloride and the substance emitting sulfur dioxide.
Such mixtures have the property of evenly and long-lasting sulfur dioxide under the influence of moisture in such quantities that even with prolonged exposure, the diseased colonies are not harmed, but the mite is killed or at least in its * X # @ reiterentzvicli # is inhibited.
As a sulfur dioxide-releasing substance, the mixture initially contains alkali bisulfite, but this can advantageously also be wholly or partially replaced by other sulfur dioxide-releasing compounds.
Such compounds are mainly the bisulfites of other light metals, e.g. B. the alkaline earth metals, also the heavy metals, and ammonia, but also, the sulfites, hyposiilfite. Polythionates and sulfoxylates of light metals. z. B. the alkali and alkaline earth metals, also the heavy metals for see alone or in Ge mix with each other into consideration.
By appropriate choice and combination of these compounds, it is possible to produce preparations with varying amounts of sulfur dioxide which can be given off. And so it is up to you to keep the doses of sulfur dioxide within the physiologically desirable limits.
Wood flour or cellulose flour, which can either be impregnated with alkaline earth chloride or with magnesium chloride, is preferably used as the carrier for the chloride.
