A grinding tool and method for its manufacture consisting of an aluminum carrier and grinding material firmly attached to it. The invention relates to a further training from a grinding tool according to the claim of the main patent, the carrier of which is made of aluminum.
The invention relates to a special consolidation of the embedding of the abrasive body in the aluminum carrier and is characterized by an oxide layer of the embedding zone of the aluminum carrier; There is an oxide coating on the surface parts of the aluminum backing that lie between the bodies of the abrasive material.
The invention first makes it possible to use extremely soft aluminum for the carrier; This simplifies the manufacture of the grinding tool and, in particular, the pressing in of the material to be sanded. The oxidation makes the aluminum carrier on the whole harder and therefore more resistant; the extent of this type of reinforcement is within very wide limits, because it depends on how far the ogyd layer is allowed to develop into the interior of the wearer. Due to the inventive Oxydie tion, the embedding of the abrasive body is therefore significantly solidified because the oxide layer around the corners and ganten that are exposed after the abrasive bodies have been pressed into the carrier grows.
Furthermore, the oxide layer completely excludes the occurrence of cold welding, which is easily possible with aluminum, between the workpiece to be ground and the surface parts of the carrier that are free of abrasive material, thus eliminating a disadvantage that has occasionally been noticeable in grinding tools with an aluminum carrier, because cold welding Cracks and other damage to the grinding surface on the workpiece inevitably result.
The life of a grinding tool according to the invention is long because the oxide layer strengthening the aluminum carrier is very hard; this hardness can be increased in a simple manner up to \ 'veins that come close to the hardness of carborundum.
The invention can advantageously be extended to abrasive films. In the case of an aluminum foil equipped with granular abrasive material on only one side, an oxide layer can then extend into the interior of the foil both from the equipped surface and from the unequipped surface of the foil.
The oxidation according to the invention can in principle be effected by any of the processes found suitable for this purpose and in use. For example, the oxidation can be generated electrolytically, since it has been shown that this is of particular advantage for three reasons. First, through the distribution of the electric field, the above-mentioned growth of the oxide layer around corners and edges of the aluminum support is ensured in a particularly perfect manner.
Secondly, it has been shown that, in the electrolytic oxidation of the aluminum carrier of the grinding tools according to the invention, the penetration depth of the oxide layer into the interior of the carrier can be regulated in a particularly simple and reliable manner. Thirdly, a particularly hard oxide layer can be generated on and in aluminum substrates by electrolytic oxidation.
The distribution of the electrical field in the vicinity of the dielectric material to be sanded pressed into the aluminum carrier is also favorable in the present case when a metallic coating is produced by electroplating. The invention makes use of this for a preliminary process before the oxidation, which, as stated, can in principle be carried out in one of the ways that have become known, but with particular advantage in the electrolytic way, in such a way that
that before the oxidation, the surface parts of the aluminum carrier lying between the grinding material bodies are galvanically provided with an aluminum coating. Experience has shown that this pretreatment and the subsequent oxidation can be used to produce particularly high-quality grinding tools according to the invention, and in turn electrolytic oxidation has shown its special advantages.
The growth of galvanic metal deposits around objects to be sanded has become known through a method by which sandbones are cemented to one another and to a metallic plate. The objects to be sanded lie on top of each other in several, often numerous layers, and the galvanically generated metal deposit, which forms a kind of grid, is gradually used up when the grinding tool is used Enter cold welding.
In the drawing, as execution examples of the invention in partial sections are schematically and greatly enlarged in Fig. 1 a grinding tool with a strong aluminum miniumträger, in Fig. 2 an aluminum foil equipped on one side with abrasive bodies and in Füg. 3 shows an intermediate product before oxidation.
According to Fig. 1, the cross-hatched zone 51 is the oxidation of the Alumi niumträgers 11, are pressed into the abrasive body 17; the oxidation only extends a little into the interior of the carrier 11 by comparison.
In the case of the abrasive film according to FIG. 2, in addition to the oxide layer 51 encompassing the embedding zone of the abrasive material 17, an oxide layer 51 ′ extending from the underside of the aluminum film 28 extends into the interior of the film 28.
In FIG. 3, 52 is the aluminum coating which is galvanically applied to the surface parts 14 of an aluminum support lying between the floating material bodies 17 and of any other design; it adheres firmly to the surface parts 14, and the subsequent oxidation process can, as mentioned above, be carried out electrolytically in such a way that not only the galvanic aluminum coating 52 is converted into an aluminum oxide, but that the oxidation is carried out through the Cover 52 also extends onto the carrier.
