Description
Process for the production of a foaming agent. The invention relates to a method for producing a foaming agent, in particular for generating air foam for fire extinguishing purposes. The foaming agent produced by the method according to the invention is distinguished from the foaming agents previously customary for air foaming purposes in particular in that the foams produced with the same have a considerably higher resistance and resistance to heat and other physical and chemical influences than that have previously known foams. As a result, the method according to the following is suitable:
Foam formers produced according to the invention are particularly suitable for those cases in which fire objects that are difficult to extinguish, such as alcohol, aromatic hydrocarbons and the like, are to be fought.
The method according to the invention consists in adding a small percentage of a soluble aluminum compound to a foaming agent obtained by digesting proteins or protein-containing substances. It has been shown that even very small additions of certain aluminum compounds are sufficient to considerably increase the resistance of foams that can be produced using protein substances.
The method according to the invention can be carried out as follows, for example: For 1000 g of a desulphurized, neutral to about 1.15 spec. Weight is set foaming agent solution, a solution prepared by dissolving 20 g of aluminum hydrogen in the required amount of acetic acid is added with stirring and neutralized by adding sodium hydroxide solution.
500 g of this foaming agent solution dissolved in 10 liters of water result in foaming by means of a suitable air foam generator - an extraordinarily tough foam which exudes the liquid it contains about two to three times as slowly as one from a solution of the same strength foam obtained without the addition of aluminum salt under the same conditions.
However, the aluminum salt can also be added to the foaming agent in another form, for example in the form of lactic acid aluminum. Although the properties of the foam to be produced have no significant effect on whether aluminum salts of inorganic or organic acids are used, the use of salts of organic acids has proven to be particularly useful.
