Description
Verfahren zur Herstellung eines quaternären Ammoniumsalzes. Gemäss der vorliegenden Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines zumW as- serabstossendmachen von Geweben brauch baren quaternären Ammoniumsalzes dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass Pyridin, wasserfreie Ogals.äure, Stearamid und Formaldehyd zu sammen zur Reaktion gebracht werden.
Wenn gewünscht, kann die Reaktion auch in Gegenwart einer solchen Menge Pyri- din ausgeführt werden, dass letzteres zugleich als Verdünnungsmittel wirkt, so dass die Re aktionsmasse im flüssigen Zustande erhal ten bleibt. Anderseits können auch andere Verdünnungsmittel zum selben Zwecke ver wendet werden, wie Chloroform, Benzol oder Toluol.
Beispiel: 9 Teile fein pulverisierte wasserfreie O$alsäure werden in 100 Teile Pyridin von 60 C eingerührt. Hierauf werden 10 Teile Stearamid und 2 Teile Paraformaldehyd zu gesetzt und das Gemisch wird während 4 Stunden bei 60 C umgerührt. Hierauf wird die Temperatur auf 70-80 C er höht und das Umrühren während 12 Stunden bei jener Temperatur fortgesetzt. Das Reak tionsgemisch wird gekühlt, mit Azeton ver dünnt und der so entstandene weisse, kristal linische Niederschlag abfiltriert.
Das auf dieseWeise erhaltene Stearamido- methylpyridiniumogalat ist ein weisser, kri stallinischer Körper, welcher in Methylalko hol oder Chloroform wenig löslich ist. Das Salz, das sich in heissem Wasser spärlich löst, gibt eine klare, schäumende Lösung. Es ist in heissem Pyridin löslich, aus welchem Lösungsmittel es leicht kristallisiert werden kann. Das Salz ist identisch mit dem nach Verfahren des Zusatzpatentes Nr. 204122 zum Hauptpatent Nr. 200663 erhaltenen Pro dukt.

According to the present invention, a process for the production of a quaternary ammonium salt which can be used to make tissues repellant is characterized in that pyridine, anhydrous ogalic acid, stearamide and formaldehyde are reacted together.
If desired, the reaction can also be carried out in the presence of such an amount of pyridine that the latter also acts as a diluent, so that the reaction compound remains in the liquid state. On the other hand, other diluents can be used for the same purpose, such as chloroform, benzene or toluene.
Example: 9 parts of finely powdered anhydrous acid are stirred into 100 parts of pyridine at 60.degree. 10 parts of stearamide and 2 parts of paraformaldehyde are then added and the mixture is stirred at 60 ° C. for 4 hours. The temperature is then increased to 70-80 ° C. and stirring is continued for 12 hours at that temperature. The reaction mixture is cooled, diluted with acetone and the resulting white, crystalline precipitate is filtered off.
The stearamidomethylpyridiniumogalate obtained in this way is a white, crystalline body which is sparingly soluble in methyl alcohol or chloroform. The salt, which sparsely dissolves in hot water, gives a clear, foaming solution. It is soluble in hot pyridine, from which solvent it can be easily crystallized. The salt is identical to the product obtained by the process of additional patent no. 204122 to main patent no. 200663.
