Brennkr aftmaschine.

<tb> Zylinderachse. <SEP> Die <SEP> -Wirkung <SEP> dieser <SEP> Form <SEP> be steht <SEP> in <SEP> einer <SEP> Vergrösserung <SEP> des <SEP> Abstandes
<tb> zwischen <SEP> der <SEP> Düse <SEP> G <SEP> der <SEP> Brennstoffeinspritz vorrichtung <SEP> um <SEP> dem <SEP> Punkt <SEP> der <SEP> Brennkam mer -andung. <SEP> an <SEP> den <SEP> die <SEP> Strahlachse <SEP> die
<tb> -Wandung <SEP> schneidet.

Internal combustion engine. The invention relates to internal combustion engines with injection of liquid fuel and compression ignition, in which outside the cylinder a combustion chamber designed as a pocket is arranged, in the mouth of which, which is open after the cylinder end, a plug-like structure is arranged that the flow of heat to the surrounding parts is hindered, or in other words that the heat cannot flow freely from the plug.
Furthermore, a channel is designed and arranged in the plug in such a way that at the end of the compression stroke part of the air charge, which is then driven into the combustion chamber, circulates in this in a certain controlled manner. The design of the parts should be such that at the end of the compression stroke no more than <B> 50% </B> of the entire combustion chamber is formed by the chamber located outside the cylinder (counted together with the channel in the plug in the combustion chamber dung). The rest of the combustion chamber is then ge through the space between the piston surface and the cylinder end forms.
An internal combustion engine with these features is described in Swiss patent 184957.
In contrast to an internal combustion engine of the type described with an outer combustion chamber, which has the shape of a sphere, according to the invention the outer combustion chamber has the shape of a spherical body of revolution whose dimension in the axis of rotation is greater than the diameter of a sphere with the same volume.
Furthermore, the fuel nozzle is arranged in such a way that the distance between the nozzle of the fuel injector and the point on the chamber wall at which the fuel jet axis meets the wall is greater than that of a spherical chamber with the same volume. The combustion chamber can have two parts, which are called the chamber ends.

<SEP> the <SEP> form <SEP> of the <SEP> whole <SEP> chamber <SEP> is <SEP> therefore <SEP> a <SEP> body of revolution <SEP> around

<tb> With <SEP> the <SEP> expect <SEP> earlier <SEP> arrangement <SEP> is
<tb> the <SEP> form <SEP> of the <SEP> outer <SEP> combustion chamber <SEP> spherical,
<tb> during <SEP> the <SEP> present <SEP> improved <SEP> burning] ,;
<SEP> always has the <SEP> form <SEP> a <SEP> spherical <SEP> body of rotation <SEP>. <SEP> whose <SEP> dimension <SEP> iu
<tb> of the <SEP> axis of rotation <SEP> X-X <SEP> greater <SEP> is <SEP> than <SEP> the
<tb> Diameter <SEP> of a <SEP> Kregel <SEP> same <SEP> volume. <SEP> For <SEP> the <SEP> embodiment <SEP> according to
<tb> Fig. <SEP> 1 <SEP> is <SEP> the <SEP> axis <SEP> X-X <SEP> parallel <SEP> to the
<tb> cylinder axis. <SEP> The <SEP> effect <SEP> of this <SEP> form <SEP> consists <SEP> in <SEP> an <SEP> enlargement <SEP> of the <SEP> distance
<tb> between <SEP> the <SEP> nozzle <SEP> G <SEP> of the <SEP> fuel injection device <SEP> around <SEP> the <SEP> point <SEP> of the <SEP> combustion chamber wall. <SEP> to <SEP> the <SEP> the <SEP> beam axis <SEP> the
<tb> wall <SEP> cuts.
<SEP> Simultaneously, <SEP> but receives <SEP>
<tb> the <SEP> chamber <SEP> has a <SEP> volume, <SEP> which <SEP> is the same as that of a spherical chamber intended for a machine of the same dimensions.
So that the shape of the combustion chamber takes the shape of a body of revolution described above about the axis X _X, it can be composed of two hemispherical parts A1 and B ', of which the latter is formed in the plug C.
These hemispherical parts are moved apart in direction XX by a distance which is indicated at H between two arrows, and the intermediate part Hl of the chamber has the shape of a body of revolution around the axis X -X, which can be a cylinder or part of an ellipsoid, for example can.
The axis X -X goes through the middle of the two hemispherical parts A 'and B'. In relation to the spherical "basic shape" it should be noted that its radius for a machine of the same dimensions would be larger than the radius r of each of the hemispheres A1 and B '. The length of the axis X-X but within the chamber space is greater than the diameter of that spherical "basic shape".
To give an example of the practically applicable dimensions in the arrangement according to FIG. 1, it should be mentioned that the radius r of each hemisphere was 20.625 mm and the distance H between the two hemisphere parts Al, B1 was 3.8 mm.
The direction of the jet emanating from the nozzle G is such that the jet axis forms a small angle, i.e. no more than 20 ', with the axis XX and that the jet axis forms part of the wall of a hemispherical end part B, which is in the Plug C is formed, meets at a point which is on the "fall downstream" of the nozzle G; that expression is intended to be used in relation to the direction of the gases which, after being driven into the combustion chamber through channel D, circulate in this during the pressure stroke.
In the illustration according to FIG. 1, the flow of the gases is counterclockwise. In their cycle, they will first be guided past the jet nozzle G and then over the point of the wall of part B 'of the combustion chamber where the axis of the fuel jet strikes the wall.
In the arrangement according to FIGS. 2 to 4, the extent of the outer chamber and the axis X-X, which forms the axis of rotation of the chamber, is directed at right angles to the cylinder axis. As you can see, each hemispherical end of the combustion chamber is in this case half in the cylinder head F and the remaining part in the plug C (see in particular Fig. 4).
In the same way, the part H ', which eats as a cylinder and which is located between the separated hemispherical ends A and B, viewed in the direction of its diameter, is half in the cylinder head F, while the other half of the part H' is in the Plug C lies. This intermediate part Hl is made recognizable ge in Fig. 3 by dash-dotted boundary lines and dash-dotted hatching, namely for the half located in the cylinder head.
In Fig. 4, which shows a perpendicular to the axis X-X extending section, the outline of the chamber appears as a circle around the center X 'through which the axis X -X passes.
In this case, as FIG. 2 shows, the jet nozzle G is placed so that the fuel jet axis runs approximately parallel to the axis X-X. So it is essentially horizontal and perpendicular to the cylinder axis. The beam axis meets the part of the hemispherical end B of the chamber, which is formed here in the cylinder head Zy, but this point is still on the "downdraft side of the jet nozzle, as here again the direction of circulation in the representation of FIG set the clockwise direction of rotation.
The sectional plane of FIG. 4, which is indicated by the line 4-4 in FIG. 2, goes according to FIG. 2 through the longitudinal center of the cylindrical intermediate part H '. For example, the dimensions for a so con structed.
Chamber be the same as given above for the arrangement of Fig. 1, in other words, the radius
