B. Kalk, in neutrale harzartige Produkte verwandelt.
Additional patent to main patent no. <B> 195662. </B> Process for the production of a resin-like, almost water-white product from a natural resin. Artificial, resinous products have already been made from natural resins in various ways. So one has started from the resin acids contained in the spruce resin or in the gopal and other natural resins and has these acids by from saturation with metal oxides, such. B. lime, transformed into neutral resinous products. The acids mentioned have also been converted with glycerol into corresponding resin acid glycerol esters.
The products obtained in this way, however, still essentially have the disadvantages of the starting materials, because on the one hand they are mostly very dark in color and, on the other hand, by no means satisfactory in terms of their hardness and elasticity. The resin acids saturated with metal oxides are also completely unusable for many purposes due to their metal content.
It has now been found that you can obtain almost water-white, hard as well as softer resin-like products if a mixture of resin alcohols, as can be obtained by treating natural resins with reducing agents, with phthalic acid or. whose anhydride condenses. Such resin alcohols can be produced from the natural resin esters of the resin acids by catalytic or other reduction processes.
As starting products for the resin alcohols, both the various types of golophoniums, as well as the fatty acid-containing or fatty acid-free resin acids separated from tall oil come into consideration, but also other natural resins such as copals, sandarac, amber and the like.
The condensation of the resin alcohols with the acid can be carried out in a technically advantageous manner and is usually carried out by simply melting the components together and heating them for a shorter or longer period to temperatures above 100, advantageously between 120 and 250 ° C. In this case the passage of an indifferent gas stream has proven to be beneficial for accelerating the condensation process. Furthermore, the condensation can also be promoted by adding small amounts of known catalysts, such as acids or salts.
The resin-like condensation products are light to colorless resins, depending on their composition and method of manufacture, which are characterized by complete homogeneity, transparency, in some cases by a high melting point and good solubility in drying oils and solvents. They can be used in all resin processing industries, i.e. for the production of oil, resin, cellulose and combination lacquers, in the varnish industry, as anti-slip agents for flooring compounds and drive belt waxes, in the manufacture of glues, e.g. B.
Paper glues, putties, adhesives of all kinds, in the preparation of gravure printing inks and as binding agents for printing inks of all kinds, also for leather and fabric printing and the like, for the production of rigid lubricants, adhesion greases and waxes, drawing greases, for impregnating textiles and other materials, for the production of fly catchers and pest control agents, such as caterpillar glue, for the production of tree wax, for the production of art objects and for the production of plastic masses or molded masses.
<I> Examples: </I> 1. 14 parts of a resin alcohol, which was obtained by high-pressure hydrogenation of tall oil resin acids and is a water-white, weakly adhesive product, are mixed with 4.5 parts of phthalic acid to <B> 180 '<for 10 hours / B> heated. The almost water-white resin obtained is ideally suited for the production of gloss enamel paints.
2. A dammar resin alcohol mixture obtainable by catalytic high pressure hydrogenation of dammar resin is heated to about 150 for 12 hours with phthalic anhydride while passing through an inert gas stream. A very light-colored condensation product with a melting point of 120 is obtained. The product is a synthetic resin that can be used as a base material for the manufacture of combination paints. This resin is also ideal for the production of all kinds of molding compounds.
