bestimmten Durch messer zusammenzuhalten.
Hierdurch würden die Randteile im Verhältnis zu dem urgebogenen Mittelteil .gestreckt werden und das Band würde sich;
Electrical communication cable and method for its manufacture. The invention relates to elec tric telecommunication cables, as well as to a Ver drive and a device for producing the cable.
Up until now it was mostly customary to produce a telecommunication cable by twisting pairs of paper-insulated conductors, stranding the conductors in pairs and finally by injecting a sheath made of lead or a lead alloy over the insulated conductors. The purpose of the present invention is to achieve a lighter and more flexible cable.
It has been shown that if, in place of the above-mentioned lead jacket, a thin metal strip made of copper, zinc or any other suitable metal is applied directly over a group of conductors and the edges of the strip are connected to one another in order to create a watertight connection,
the tape tends to tear or burst easily if the cable is bent beyond a certain extent. It is therefore an object of the invention to produce a bendable cable whose jacket is secure against tearing or bursting.
The inventive telecommunication cable, in which a. of .a metal sheath around a given plurality of insulated conductors are present, is characterized in that the sheath consists of a metal band which. has ring-shaped, self-contained waves that are perpendicular to the cable axis,
which the cable core only with those in the wave troughs. touch the parts below, and that the edges of the tape running in the longitudinal direction of the cable are connected to one another. Due to this shape, the metal shell is flexible.
The method according to the invention for producing this cable is characterized in that a metal band is corrugated transversely, @that this band is bent around the cable core,
Among other things, the waves are closed in a ring shape and only touch the cable core with the parts lying at the bottom in the wave troughs, while the edges of the tape run in the longitudinal direction of the cable, and that the edges of the tape are connected to one another. In this way a transversely corrugated flexible cable sheath is obtained.
The metal strip can be corrugated immediately before being applied to the cable core by running it through corrugated wheels, but it can also be corrugated beforehand. For example, you can proceed as follows: You bend the edge parts of a previously transversely corrugated metal band at the same time in the transverse and longitudinal directions, after the bends have been carried out, the resulting longitudinal curvature of the band is removed again and the corrugated band is wrapped in Shape of a tube around the cable core.
The device according to the invention for performing the method according to the invention is characterized by means for feeding a cable core, means for applying the transversely corrugated metal band to the fed cable core and for bending the band around the cable core in such a way that the waves present in the band are perpendicular to the cable axis come to stand
are closed in a ring and only touch the cable core with the parts lying at the bottom in the wave troughs, while the edges .des tape run in the longitudinal direction of the cable, and by means of connecting the edges to form a transversely corrugated watertight shell.
The invention is described in more detail below with reference to some exemplary embodiments, which are illustrated schematically in the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a view of an embodiment of the device for exercising the method according to the invention for the production of a cable designed according to FIGS. 4 and 5, part of the device being removed for the purpose of better illustration 2 is a plan view of a piece of a transversely corrugated strip, FIG. 3 is a partial view of two transversely.
waves forming rollers serving the metal strip, FIG. 4 a through plane 4-4 of FIG. 5: Section through an embodiment of the cable, FIG. 5 a view of a cable according to the invention, wherein for better verification - illustration of the structure parts of the cable have been cut away,
Fig. 6 is a view of a further embodiment of the device for performing the process according to the invention, Fig. 7 is a view of the plane 2-2 of Fig. 6 from a partial view of this device, Fig. 8 is a view of the level 3- 3 of FIG. 6, FIG. 9 a partial view from the plane 4-4 of FIG. 6,
10 a partial view seen from the plane 5-5 of FIG. 6, FIG. 11 a partial view seen from the plane 6-6 of FIG. 6, FIG. 12 a partial view from FIG the plane 7-7 of FIG. 6 from a partial view, and FIG. 13 is a partial view of this device seen from the plane 8-8 of FIG. 6.
From these figures, some of which schematically illustrate work processes in the exemplary embodiments of the method described below, it can be seen that in both cases it is the production of a cable with a plurality of liters 10, preferably such with low electrical resistance, e.g.
B. made of copper, which are insulated with paper, textile material or another suitable material and are preferably twisted into pairs, which are loosely stranded together so that they form a group or a bundle 12.
The group or the bundle 112 can be produced in any suitable manner, but preferably with one of the customary known stranding machines in which a device is attached through which a paper wrapping 13 is applied along a helical line the leader group in one,
to hold together a certain diameter.
In the DA in the direction of fig. 1 is a drain drum 14, which contains a length of the paper-wrapped conductor group 1.5, mounted on suitable supports 16, one at more drain drum 17, which has a length of a suitable metal band 18, - such. B. Mes sing, copper or zinc tape contains, is stored on the carriers 19.
A pair of corrugated wheels 22 and 23 are mounted on the supports 16, which produce a corrugated metal band 24 from the band 18. The waves generated in the belt are, as is expedient, arranged in such a way that they run across the entire width of the belt and at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the belt as transverse waves, as shown in FIG.
If the longitudinal edge parts of the tape 24 are placed one on top of the other and after the order of the tape are to be soldered around the conductor group 15, it is advantageous to see them along these longitudinal edge parts with solder, as shown at 20 and 21 in Fig. 2 ge . The solder coating is applied to the edges preferably prior to the corrugation operation.
The shaped or corrugated wheels 22 and 23 (Fig. 1 and 3) are preferably formed so that they generate the waves by an almost pure bending process without the metal strip 10 is noticeably stretched ge and that they waves, their cross-sectional area approximately following a sine line, generate.
In a special embodiment, the following dimensions have proven to be suitable for the wheels for generating the waves in 0.127 mm thick band: outer diameter of the wheels 25.42 mm, 30 teeth with flat engagement surfaces, teeth 0.762 mm (corner, 1.27 mm deep and with a radius of 0.381 mm at the ends. The distance between the centers of two consecutive teeth is 2.54 mm at a distance of 12.2 mm from the wheel center.
Corrugated gears with these dimensions produce a corrugated band in which the distance between two wave crests is approximately 2.54 mm and the wave height is approximately 1.27 mm when the teeth of one wheel engage in the middle of the space between the teeth of the other wheel.
A forming wheel 25 with a semicircular groove on the circumference and a farm sock 26 is attached so that the group of conductors 15 can be pressed against the central part of the corrugated tape 24 to bend the central portion of the tape. A forming wheel 27 with a semicircular groove on the circumference and a guide wheel 28 are provided to bend the edge parts around the insulated conductor group 15 at one edge of the corrugated tape 24, and another similar forming wheel 29 with a guide wheel 30 has the task of the edge parts on the other edge of the corrugated tape 24 to bend the insulated conductor group 15.
Furthermore, a suitable device 31 is provided for connecting the edge parts of the corrugated tape 24 and thus for producing a watertight seal between the edges of the tape. If the edge parts of the tape are to overlap and are previously coated with solder, this device can take the form of a heated tube 32 in which the solder is melted and the edges of the tape are connected to form a watertight joint.
Of course, if the edges of the tape 24 are to be connected by welding or brazing, the heated tube 31 can be replaced by a suitable device with which the edge parts of the tape are held together and welded or brazed to a watertight joint. Preferably, a take-up drum 33 is provided to take on the conductor with the corrugated band to give. The winding drum 33 and the wave wheels 22 and 23 can be driven by suitable drives, such as. B. a motor 34 are driven.
The operation of the device provided in FIG. 1 is as follows: When the motor 34 sets the take-up reel 33 in rotation, the conductor 15 wrapped with paper is withdrawn from the drum 14. The rotation of the corrugated wheels 22 and 23 brings about the pulling off of the metal strip 18 from the drum 17 via the wheels. The corrugated tape 24 is then ge bent into a groove when passing through the forming roller 25 and the forming shoe 26. The paper-insulated conductor group 15 is drawn between the forming wheel 25 and the forming shoe 26 over the middle part of the corrugated tape 24.
Since the molding wheel 25 sits on the circumference of a semicircular groove, the paper-wrapped conductor bundle 15 is pressed by the molding shoe against the corrugated tape 24 and thereby forms the middle part of the corrugated tape 24. When the tape 24 and the conductor bundle 15 between the molding wheel 27 and pass through the guide roller 28, one edge portion of the tape 24 is formed. When passing through the forming wheel 29 and the associated guide roller 30, the forming of the other edge part of the tape takes place. When the group of conductors surrounded by the corrugated metal band passes through the device 31, the edges of the band are connected to one another, so that a waterproof jacket is created that shields the cable against external inductive interference.
In the corrugated metal shell produced in this way, the waves, as can be clearly seen from FIG. 5, represent complete annular beads around the jacket, each annular bead being independent of the other. Therefore, if the corrugated jacket is damaged by an external force, moisture penetrating the damaged area of the jacket is held back by the first undamaged annular bead and not passed on, as would be the case if the elevations caused by the waves were screwed on. ben line would run. Any damage that occurs is therefore limited to the immediate vicinity of the damaged area.
In some cases it is useful to place a non-metallic cover over the corrugated tape. A suitable protective layer respectively. Protective cover 35 (Fix. 4 and 5 ) , such as B. tough rubber, gutta-percha or grutta-percha substitute can be applied by running the cable through any known cable press that covers this all around its length with one or more layers, or the protective sheath can be impregnated with a suitable protective compound Consist of textile material. If the cover is made of rubber, it can also be injected onto it.
Preferably, coarse canvas soaked with asphalt can be wound around the cable and surrounded by a layer of paper 6 that extends along a helix and is applied to the impregnated textile material. The textile material can be impregnated either before or after being applied to the cable. The protective compound can consist of asphalt or any other compound which is resistant to chemical decomposition and at the same time provides mechanical protection for the cable.
In the illustrated in Figs. 6 to 12 machine a straight and relatively thin ver, transversely corrugated metal band 18 is drawn from a suitable drainage device 17 and bent into a tube around a substantially cylindrical core 15, which is of a not shown Drain device is withdrawn, placed. The tape 18 runs from the device 17 on the curved part of a fixed guide 37 and through a guide member 38, which consists of a solid block with a continuous slot that is just large enough that the tape can go through with little play .
The purpose of the guide member 38 is to prevent a lateral displacement of the band 18 beyond the guide 37.
Above the guide member 3, 8 a fixed idler roller 39 is arranged over which the core 15 runs so that it is prevented from prematurely sinking onto the belt 18.
From the guide member 38, the band 1,8 runs over a bending roller 40 and between two pairs of rollers 41, 42 and 43, 44 for curving the edge parts of the band.
The upper rollers 41 and 43 of these pairs have convex rounded circumferences. while the circumferences, d r corresponding counter rollers 42 and 44, as shown in Fig. 8, are concave. The sizes of the roles of each cooperating pair are spaced apart
which corresponds to the height of the waves of the band. The bending roller 40 is attached in front of the rollers 41 and 43 and its upper part is above, the lower part of the latter.
.She has one of them. Distance approximately equal to the height of the corrugations of the belt. None of these five Rolleil is: wavy.
When the tape passes over the roller 40 and under the rollers 41 and 43, it is bent in its longitudinal direction.
As from the Fi, g. 6 at A . Is visible; the belt is forced to follow the circumferential curvature of the rollers 41 and 43 over a considerable arc (approximately 45) before it enters between the roller pairs 41, 42 and 43, 44. It is held in this longitudinal curvature, while the pairs 41, 42 and 43, 44 force the edge parts of the band,
assume the transverse curvature of the convex perimeters of rollers 41 and 43 ..
The term "longitudinal curvature" refers to the shape that the belt has between; the run-up points and the drain on the rollers 41 and 43 assumes. On the other hand, the expression "transversal curvature" is directed towards the bending up of the edge parts of the band, so that its cross-section, perpendicular to the longitudinal extension, essentially assumes a U-shape.
The tape can easily be bent lengthways because the waves run across the tape. However, it is difficult to bend in the transverse direction. The longitudinal curvature caused by rollers 40, 41 and 43 disappears immediately when the tape is pulled out of rollers 41, 42 and 43-, 44. The transverse curvature, that is, the bending of the edge parts of the belt caused by the interaction of all five rollers 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44, remains.
These rollers are designed in such a way that the tape, when it comes out of them, is permanently rolled up at its edge parts, as shown in FIG. 9. The radius of curvature is preferably kept somewhat smaller than the radius of the cable core 1.5.
The rollers 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44 are all idler rollers that are only set in motion by the band that is duroh drawn between them. The rollers 42; and 44 can conveniently be placed firmly on a common rotatable shaft 45 through which they are kept in motion with one another.
The rollers 41 and 43 are expediently arranged with a free space for the passage of the core.
If the roller 40 were to be omitted and the band would run in one plane into the rollers 41, 42 and 43, 44 intended for bending the edges, they would flatten the transverse waves of the band when the edge parts of the band are rolled up search.
This would stretch the edge parts in relation to the arched middle part and the tape would stretch;
warped, twisted and difficult to handle. As a result of the double curvature at the edges of the belt which it receives as a result of the presence of the roller 40 in cooperation with the other four rollers, the waves become.
pressed against each other during the bending, and if the dimensions and proportions of the five rollers are suitably selected, leaves the strip of tape bent at the edges without any undesired deformation, apart from a possible uniform small transverse stretch.
This method of giving the band a double curvature by means of the five rollers 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44 in order to bend the edge parts, is an important feature of this embodiment of the method according to the invention.
After passing through .die mentioned rollers to bend the edge parts, the cable core enters a tubular guide member 4.6, which is held by the fixed parts 47 and 56.
The member 47 is provided below the inlet opening of the guide member 46 with a slot through which the belt passes and, as shown in FIG , 49, 50 and 51 is worn, which in cooperation with the Füh approximately member 46 accomplish the process of bending the band 1.8 to form a sheath around the core.
Each roller 48 to 51 has a concave peripheral surface and a somewhat sharper curvature than the previous one.
Together with the roller 50, a pair of idler guide rollers 52 and 53 are arranged, which run on the now upwardly bent edge parts of the U-shaped belt 18 and ensure that it does not look twisted or shifted sideways.
Upon exiting the roller 51, the tape, which is still in contact with the guide member 46, is brought between a pair of cooperating forming rollers 54 and 55 (Fig. 11).
The lower roller 55 has a concave groove on the circumference, so that it holds the central part of the belt 18 firmly against the convex underside of the guide member. presses. The upper roller 54 also has a concave groove on the circumference and presses the two edge parts of the belt against the convex upper side of the guide member. In order to make this possible, the roller 54, as shown in FIG. 11, is designed in such a way that it fits into the groove of the roller 55.
Since the outer circumference of the guide member 46 is larger than that of the core, the tubular casing is not yet completely closed, but there is still a gap between the adjacent Rän countries of the tape. As a result of the pre-bending of the side parts by the rollers 41, 42 and 43 44, the outermost edge parts of the tape are now facing each other and must then be brought so that they abut each other or, preferably, that they overlap.
The guide member 46 ends at the part 5,6 and when the tape 18 and the core 15 leave the guide member 46, they first get into the member 5ü. This member is a fixed part, which consists mainly of a solid metal sheet in the shape of a spiral cone, as shown in FIGS. 6 and 12.
When the band runs with the core in and through. The member 56, it presses slightly against it due to its internal elasticity and adapts to the inner surface of the spiral cone. One edge part of the band is thus guided in such a way that it lies radially above the other, since the cone brings the tubular band to a smaller diameter.
When inserting. of the band 18 and the core 15 in the device, care must be taken that the corrugated edge parts of the band fit one another exactly, since the band closes itself in the link 56. Once properly matched, it can go through for a continuous length of tape.
The core, which is wrapped in the tape closed by the overlap, then runs through a pair of closely working idler rollers 57 and 58, in which the jacket is brought to its prescribed outer dimensions.
In general, the overlapping or possibly only abutting edges of the tape are made by any suitable soldering or welding device, such as those in Big. 6, -shown connected.
The end product then runs on any suitable drive and take-up device, which is not shown in FIG. 6, but is designated by 33 in FIG. 1.
In this embodiment of the method, it is important that there is contact between the core. and to avoid the tape down to the last possible moment, that is, until it enters the link 56.
Because the various bending processes seek the waves, even if they are skilfully executed; easy to flatten and in this way .dis to increase the entire length of the tape with each work step. Although the band and the core jointly and at the same speed link 5:
6, the tape remains behind the core to a decreasing extent up to this point.
It should also be noted that in some cases it may be desirable to pre-bend only one edge portion of the tape. In this case, a pair of the rollers 41, 492 or 43, 44 must be cylindrical instead of convex or concave.
The above-mentioned methods of making an electrical cable produce a flexible cable, the jacket 24 of which folds uniformly when the cable is bent. The cable can withstand many bends and be bent without the waterproof sheath 24 tearing or bursting. The fact that the corrugated sheath essentially only touches the cylindrical sheathed core 12, 13 with the parts lying underneath the corrugation troughs (Fix. 5) is a reason for the greater flexibility of the complete cable compared to - previously known forks.
