Thermal regulator for electric iron . The object of the present invention is a thermal regulator for an electric iron . It is characterized by a bi-metallic blade provided with a push-button which. when the blade deforms tends to to separate two electrical contacts normally hand held against each other, said blade having a shape and dimensions such that it is capable of being placed in the space left free by the connections of the heating body of an iron, so that the regulator is suitable to be adapted to l 'rear and in line with the iron iron ,. without requiring any modification of the heating body of this iron.
The appended drawing represents, by by way of example, an embodiment of the regulator which is the subject of the invention, mounted on an ordinary electric iron. .
Fig. 1 represents an elevation, part in section, of this reculator; tn Fig. 2 is a plan -view, the cover being removed, The regulator shown comprises a base plate 1 under which is fixed, by one of its ends, a bi-metal blade - lique 2 which, at its other end,
has a 3 pushbutton that can switch to tra to an opening in the base plate 1. Above the plate 1 is a lever 4 mounted to pivot on an axis 21 and on which is fixed a spring 5 which carries a frame 6. On the, base 1 is mounted, by means of spacers 8, a permanent magnet 7 which tends to to attract the armature 6. On this armature is mounted, by means of an insulating fixing 9, an electric contact 10 which, when the armature 6 is attracted by the magnet, comes to press on a second electrical contact 10a. which is fixed and mounted in the center of the magnet by means of an insulating fixing 9a.
On a support 14 is mounted a plate II which has a stop 12 limiting the movement of the frame 6.
In a tapped hole of lever 4 is screwed -a adjustment screw 20 under which comes - # 71 to press the push-button 3 of the, blade 2 when it is deformed. This screw 20 can be adjusted by means of a keeper 13 , the upper part of which projects above a protective cover 17. This driver is integral in rotation with the screw 20, the latter being able on the other hand to move axially without driving the driver 13 in its axial movement.
Above the protective cover, this trainer has an index there with an operating button there, the index there moving in front of a dran placed on the cover 17, the numbers of this dial corresponding to different temperatures that the bi-metallic blade must reach so that the contacts 10 and 10a broke up.
On the base plate is mounted a support 19 carrying two input plugs 16 for the current. The base plate also carries two connection terminals 18 passing through the plate and intended to to be connected to the two ends of the heating body of an iron to < / B> re pass.
The regulator is shown mounted on a regular electric iron . One of the plugs 16 is electrically connected directly to one of the terminals 18 which has been connected to < / B> one of the ends of the iron's heating body.
The other plug 16 is electrically connected to the electrical contact 10a, while the contact 10 is electrically connected to the other terminal 18 that we have connected, on the other hand, to the other end of the heating body of the iron.
The contacts 10 and 10a are normally kept in contact by the fact that the armature 6 is attracted by the magnet 7. If so connect the two plugs 16 to a power supply network, the circuit will be closed and the iron will do this. When the blade 2 reaches a certain temperature, it will have become sufficiently deformed for the push-button to press against the screw 9-0. Under this pressure, the lever 4 -pivots on its axis 21, tension the spring 5 until the tension of this spring dominates the magnetic traction of the magnet, from which abrupt separation of the contacts 10 and 10a and consequently opening of the circuit.
When the blade 2 cools down, the push button 3, coming back, allows the lever 4 to move back with the frame 6 until that it has come close enough to the magnet to be suddenly attracted, which abruptly brings the contact 10 on the contact 10a and closes the circuit.
The contact 10a could be screwed onto its seat, which would allow the distance between the contacts 10 and 10a to be adjusted.
Note, on the other hand, that by operating the driver 13, screw 20 is screwed or unscrewed in the lever 4, which decreases or increases the distance separating the lower end. of this screw of the push button 3. If the screw 20 is mounted, it will therefore be necessary to heat the blade 2 more strongly before the push button comes press under this screw 20. The regulator will cut off the heating circuit for a higher temperature. By placing the index 15 in front of the various marks on the dial, the regulator can therefore be operated for various determined temperatures.
As can be seen in the figures, the bi-metallic blade is of shape and dimensions such that it is placed in the space left free by the connections of the heating body of the iron. This is an important advantage, since the regulator can be positioned at the rear and in the axis of the iron to to be ironed, without the need to change or modify somehow the heating body of this iron. This regulator can therefore be easily mounted on all existing irons.
It goes without saying that, in other embodiments, we could give to the bi-metallic blade a different shape, allowing it to be placed between the connections of the heating body. The regulator could also be simplified by removing the plate Il and the stopper 12. The driver 13 could also be omitted: in this case, the screw 20 would be controlled directly by the in dex 15, the latter then following the -vis 20 in its axial movements ,. The # aim9, -nt 7 Could be deleted, the contacts 10 and 10a then being normally kept in contact by means of a spring to </ B > coil connecting the leaf spring 5 to the base plate 1.
