Indirectly heated cathode for electrical discharge tubes and process for producing this cathode. The invention relates to indirectly heated cathodes for electrical discharge tubes and to a method for the produc- tion of such cathodes.
An indirectly heated cathode of an electrical discharge tube generally consists of a heating element, around which, for example, an in most cases tubular cathode body is attached with the interposition of an insulating body; this body is then seen on the outer surface with an emitting substance.
The attachment of such cathodes, in particular the attachment of the cathode body itself, has already been done in various ways. For example, it was known to attach a support member to the outside of the cathode body, with the aid of which the cathode could be attached to a support. This attachment, although it can be done in different ways, has proven to be quite disadvantageous in many cases because it results in a fairly large amount of heat dissipation and, moreover, the cathode in many cases not with the help of such a body can be centered well.
In order to avoid this disadvantage, it has been proposed to mount an organ in the interior of the cathode body and to fasten the body to it and also to center the cathode with the aid of a body fastened to this organ.
Although good results can be achieved with the last-described construction, as the applicant has found, this construction can be improved considerably when a cathode construction according to the invention is used. Such a construction is that the cathode body is machined at least at one end in such a way that a part of smaller diameter is created, which part ends in a part with the help of which the cathode can be centered and fixed in a support member. On one side there can be two or more openings in this part. through which the radiator of the cathode is led to the outside.
Because there is not a special body in the interior of the cathode body in the construction according to the invention, but instead the fastening and centering part forms part of the cathode body itself, less heat dissipation occurs while, on the other hand, an excellent centering is obtained.
A cathode according to the invention also makes it possible to use the surface of the cathode body as much as possible, because the heating element, which is mounted inside the cathode, can extend all the way to the other end of the cathode, since not part of the cathode body of an attached inside and on the inside of the same attached support body is taken.
A cathode according to the invention can be manufactured, for example, in the following manner. The tubular, metal cathode body is attached to one or the other or both ends, e.g. B. by rotating the hammering, processed in such a way that a part of smaller diameter is created which gradually merges into a part serving to center and secure the cathode. After the heating element is installed inside the cathode body, the cathode can be inserted into the tube. But it is also possible to partially remove the wall of the cathode body at the end in such a way that two or more strips are formed which are bent towards one another and then pressed together; When the cathode body parts are pressed together at the lower end of the body, a welding or similar method can be used.
The invention is explained in more detail with reference to a drawing showing the cathode according to the invention, for example and schematically.
Fig. 1 shows the cathode in section, Fig. 2 in plan view, while Fig. 3 shows another embodiment of the cathode in plan view.
At the lower and upper end of the cathode body 1, which surrounds the radiator 2, the wall is directed at 3 by appropriate loading with a decrease in diameter after the axis and gradually converted into central parts 4 serving to attach and center the cathode. In the decreasing diameter over transition part 3 holes 5 are attached to one end of the cathode body through which the radiator 2 is guided to the outside.
According to FIG. 3, the wall of the cathode body is cut and partially removed at the end where the heating body is guided to the outside in such a way that two strips are created which are bent against one another and welded together.
