Measuring device for the electrical measurement of time intervals. The invention relates to a measuring apparatus for the electrical measurement of time intervals, consisting of an electrical capacitor, which is partially charged or discharged via an ohmic resistor during the time interval to be measured, with means being provided to reduce the to determine a measure of the voltage change on the capacitor representing the time to be measured.
_ The means for determining the voltage can either be a) a tube voltmeter, i.e. an electron tube - the grid and cathode of which are attached to the coverings of the capacitor and whose anode current indicated by an ammeter serves as a measure for the capacitor voltage, or b) a electrostatic voltmeter, which is connected in parallel to the capacitor, are used.
The basic circuit according to execution a) shows the scheme Fig. 1, which allows time measurement in two ways. First type: With the switch 19 open, the capacitor 17 is charged to the voltage of the power source 14 by closing the switch 16, so that the grid of the electron tube 10 becomes negative with respect to the filament fed by the power source 103:
the ammeter 11 then shows a small value of the anode current ali supplied by the current source 12. After this preparation is with the switch 16 open, during the time to be measured switch 19 is closed, whereby capacitor 17 is partially discharged via resistor 18 and the grid of the electron tube 10 assumes a corresponding voltage.
The ammeter 11 now shows a higher value and its scale can be calibrated and numbered in units of time, which enables the measured time interval to be read immediately. So that the grid current does not interfere with the discharge process, it can be suppressed by the grid voltage 9 in a known manner. With this type of measurement, resistor 15 can also be omitted.
Second type: When the switch 16 is open, the capacitor 17 is completely discharged by closing switch 19; the ammeter 1.1 shows a maximum value. After this preparation, with the switch 19 open, switch 1.6 is closed during the time to be measured, whereby the capacitor 17 is partially charged via resistor 1.5. The ammeter now shows a lower value and it can again be provided with a time scale. The opponent stood 18 is not necessarily required here.
If an electrostatic voltmeter is connected in parallel to the capacitor 17 in the diagram of FIG. 1 and parts 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 are omitted, the principle diagram for embodiment b) is obtained. The following explanations are limited to embodiment a) because the analogous transfer to embodiment b) after this explanation does not present any difficulty for the person skilled in the art. Execution a) is practically more important because the use of the electrostatic voltmeter requires higher voltages on the capacitor than appears feasible for most applications.
The changes in the anode current of the tube 10 can be used in a known manner to control a second tube. For this purpose, the ammeter 11 is replaced by a resistor and the voltage drop that occurs is used as the grid voltage of the following tube. The ammeter 11 as a display instrument is then in the anode circuit of the second tube; the current changes indicated by it can be amplified or changed in this way by this arrangement. ensure that the scale profile of the display instrument has the desired shape.
The .Schema FIG. 2 now shows how the basic arrangement can be designed in order to obtain an apparatus for making such measurements; all parts can be combined in a portable box, which can also contain the power sources. In the scheme Fig. -? it is assumed that a power source is connected to terminals 2.0, that it supplies alternating current and that the measurement is carried out according to the first type.
The filaments of the indirectly heated electron tube 23 and the rectifier tube 24 are connected via the resistor 22 to the network. As a result of the rectifier 24, a pulsating direct current circulates through the voltage divider 34, 35, 3.6, which is partially smoothed by the capacitor 37. If the switch 26 is temporarily closed in preparation for the measurement, the occupancy of the measuring capacitor 33 connected to the grid receives a negative voltage, the magnitude of which is determined by the voltage divider.
The resistor 27 is essential here, since it effects a further smoothing of the wave voltage. Since the ammeter 28 would now show a small value, the ammeter 28 is brought to zero by a compensation circuit via resistor 31 and a suitable tap on the voltage divider 35.
In order to isolate the measuring circuit from the network, there is a changeover switch 32 which allows the measuring capacitor 33 to be switched over to the measuring circuit, that is to say on-line charging circuit 38, 39, -10, 25, 25 'for carrying out the measurement.
The switch 39 enables two measuring ranges by choosing from two resistors 38; Because the discharge speed of the measuring capacitor depends on the product resistance times capacitance, there are different measuring ranges, depending on the choice of factors.
The apparatus receives the terminals 40 so that the measuring circuit can be completed in any way; Here this outer measuring circuit contains two contacts 25 and 2a ', which are to be thought of as being operated either by hand or by any machines and devices, such that the time interval to be measured is defined by the time during which contact 25 is closed, or alternatively by the time from the closing of the contact 25 to the opening of the contact 5 '.
The time is now measured in such a way that the switch 26 is first pressed; the resulting charging of the measuring capacitor is shown externally by the fact that the pointer of the ammeter 28 moves to the zero position. Then the switch 26; " opens, the switch 32 sets to the right ge. the time measurement carried out by actuating the tone contacts 25 and 25 ', the order switch 32 is placed to the left, whereupon the cowardly of the ammeter 28 indicates the time interval sought.
A changeover switch 29 allows the current meter 28 to be used as a voltmeter to control the voltage via the series resistor 30 and by means of the regulating resistor 21 this voltage can be brought to the target value, which can be prescribed, for example, by a calibration mark on the scale. The circuit Fig.2 also works on a direct current network if the terminals 20 are given the correct polarity.
So that the scale is given the desired shape in time units, an electron tube with a suitable characteristic, for example an exponential tube, can be used. or a special ammeter whose scale profile is influenced by design measures can be used. Furthermore, the harmful influence of creeping and insulation currents can be reduced by feeding a current with the opposite effect to the grid from a suitable point on the voltage filter via a resistor.
By means of a 11i.lfkontakt, not shown, attached to the changeover switch 32, which is electrically parallel to the switch 26 and closes when the changeover switch is to the right, it can also be easily avoided that the grid temporarily has no specific potential.
Another embodiment is shown in FIG. Here an auxiliary relay with winding 62 is added, which allows a time interval to be measured, the beginning of which is not to be measured interval, the beginning of which is not determined by the closing, but by the opening of a contact; This also makes it possible to determine the end of the time interval not by opening but rather by closing a contact.
If the contact combination 25, 25 'of FIG. 2 consisting of two contacts is briefly referred to as: "Close-open", then the three additional combinations made possible by the auxiliary relay are called: "Open-open", "Close-close" ss @ en "," Open-Close-en ".
The primary winding 43 of a transformer is connected to the terminals 41, 42 on the network. The secondary winding 44 feeds the circuit via a current regulator tube 45, which contains an iron resistor and therefore automatically keeps the current flowing through the tube constant despite fluctuations in the mains voltage; since the total power consumption of the circuit (without relay) hardly changes during the time measurement, this arrangement is an automatic regulation against voltage fluctuations in the network. The circuit is designed in Fig. 3 for the measurement of the second type. Parts 46, 47, 48, 57, 58, 59, 60 correspond to parts 22, 23, 24, 34, 3.5, 36, 37 in FIG. 2.
The ammeter 50 is here at the anode and receives a compensation current via resistor 4.9. By 'closing the .Switch 51, the IZessung by discharging the INIesskondensators 53 respectively. 54 prepared via resistor 52 after one of the two measuring ranges 53, 55 or U, 5.6 has been selected by switch 72.
The relay winding 62 receives from the secondary winding 44 (with bridged terminals 63) via resistor 64 and rectifier 48 undulating direct current; the capacitor 61 serves to smooth it and further smoothing means can be added if necessary in a known manner. The relay 6'2 actuates a changeover contact 65 which is connected to terminal 616 when the winding is de-energized and to terminal 67 when the winding is energized; According to the protective resistor 64, the winding 6.2 may also be de-energized by bridging the terminals 69.
If now a time measurement by the contact combination "close-open" he follows, corresponding (not drawn) contacts are placed in series on terminals 70, 71, exactly as in Fig. 2, the contacts 2,5, 25 'on terminals 40 lie. To prepare, press switch 51; the measuring capacitor is discharged, the pointer of the instrument 50 goes to the zero point of the time scale.
Switch 51 is opened like that and the time measurement is made by actuating the contacts, not shown; thereby the Klem men 70, 71 are bridged during the time interval to be measured, the measuring capacitor partially charged, the grid brought to the appropriate potential, the pointer of the instrument 50 is guided to the relevant point on the time scale.
If there is another contact combination, for example: "open-close", contacts not shown are connected in series to terminals 69, terminals 70 connected to @ 67, furthermore 71 connected to 618, terminals 6'3 bridged. As a result, the relay is short-circuited via terminals 69, ie not energized, although the resistor 64 is traversed by the current. The measurement is carried out as described above; At the beginning of the time interval to be measured, the short circuit at terminals 69 is canceled by the break contact, the relay it energizes, terminals 67, 68 verbun to each other, thereby also terminals 70, 71 and the charging of the measuring capacitor begins.
At the end of the time interval to be measured, the short circuit at terminals 69 is restored, the relay drops out and charging is interrupted.
For the contact combination "open-open" the same procedure is used for "open-close", except that the end contact is connected to terminals 63. The procedure for the "close-close" contact combination is exactly the same, except that the start contact is connected to terminals <B> 6,3, </B> the end contact to terminals 69. The auxiliary relay can of course also be fed differently.
There can also be two auxiliary relays, one for the beginning and the other for the end of the time interval to be measured; then the arrangement can be made so that the contacts are only allowed to act for a short time.
The measuring apparatus also allows a direct display of the speed, rotational speed, number of periods and other variables, if they can be found from a time measurement through a suitable arrangement of electrical contacts. For example, the speed of an object is to be determined over a certain distance; then this object should make a contact while stroking past this stretch of road as long as it takes to stroke past. The desired speed results from the quotient of the distance and the measured time; If the distance remains constant, the speed scale can be calibrated and numbered directly.
The measuring apparatus can also be set up so that the measured value is displayed until the pointer position is corrected by a new measurement. For this purpose, according to FIG. 1, the capacitor 17 can be present in three copies 17, 17 ′, 17 ″ and a switching device can cause the capacitor 17, for example, to be on the grid at a certain time, 1 <B> 7 </B> is charged, 17 "is discharged and each capacitor carries out these functions in cyclical exchange.
This enables measurements to be taken in quick succession; With the exception of the switching moment, the grid is constantly on a capacitor and the pointer of the reading instrument almost constantly follows a constant change in the measured value, as long as the cyclical exchange by mechanical or electrical drive of the switching device lasts.
For this reason, such a measuring apparatus can serve as a receiver of a telemetry device which, in a known manner, transmits the remotely transmitted measured variable as a time value; in this case, the cyclical interchanging is triggered by the receiving relay of the remote measuring device after each arrival of a time pulse. It is also possible for only two or more than three capacitors and associated resistors to participate in the swap. As a result of the constant display of the measured value, the display instrument 11 can also be designed as a writing device.
Resistors and capacitors can be used.
