Device for electrical measurement and registration of a flow rate.
Electric flow meters are known in which, to measure the flow in individual pipelines, the conversion ratio and thus the amount of electrical energy consumed by the transformer is changed by adjusting a mercury column serving as a secondary winding of a transformer. The electrical power consumed by the transformer is then proportional to the simultaneous flow rate in the pipeline. An example of such a device is described in US Pat. No. 1,331,065.
A dial ammeter, a graph recorder and a watt-hour meter are usually used to electrically measure and record the liquid flowing in a pipeline over a certain period of time.
If there are several pipelines with flow meters, it is sometimes desirable that, in addition to the measurement of each individual amount of liquid flowing in the separate pipelines, the total flow rate of all pipelines is also measured. A measurement of the total flow with direct reading of the latter has not been possible until now, because no useful reading is obtained if the individual measuring transformers are connected to a common measuring instrument. The reason for this is that the ratio between the flow rate in the individual pipeline and the electrical power consumed by the associated measuring transformer, the constant of the flow meter, is different for different flow meters.
As a result of the fact that one flow meter can display more liquid quantity units at a certain current strength and another less, a common measuring instrument for several flow meters would not be able to display the actual total flow.
The object of combining the data of the individual flow meters connected to the individual pipelines into a total reading when a flow rate is distributed over several separate pipelines is achieved by the invention, which as the sum of the individual data directly indicates the total flow of all pipelines.
The various constants of the individual instruments are brought to a common value, u. between current conversion means, the excitation of which is regularly influenced by the alternating current of an individual flow meter, and which send alternating currents of the same constant into a common circuit and thereby cause a total alternating current in the latter, which measures and records the whole on the various pipelines distributed liquid flow through a single measuring instrument or a single set of measuring instruments consisting of a dial ammeter, graph recorder and watt-hour meter.
. In the embodiment described further below, a current transformer with such a transmission ratio is switched into the circuit of each individual flow meter that the product of this transmission ratio and the constant of the associated flow meter results in the same value each time. This product, which is the same for every system of current transformer and flow meter, is the common constant for all systems, which makes it possible to collect the currents coming from the current transformer in a common circuit and to use a single measuring instrument or a set of the instruments mentioned at the beginning to collect the entire liquid flow to measure and register.

In the drawing, FIG. 1 shows an arrangement designed according to the invention for measuring a flow distributed over three lines, and FIG. 2 shows an individual of the electrical flow meters used in this case on a larger scale. Through the pressure lines 7, the pressure prevailing in the pipeline upstream and downstream of the stagnation nozzle 10 is transmitted to the mirrors 21 and 22 of the mercury column 23, which can be seen in FIG. 2, so that it adjusts itself to the pressure difference. The part of the mercury column located in the space 24 forms the secondary winding of a transformer with the primary winding 25 and the core 26.
The primary winding 25 is inductively connected to the line 4 and takes more or less electrical energy therefrom, depending on whether the mercury in the space 24 is higher or lower depending on the flow to be measured.
In Fig. 1, the electrical flow meters 1, 2 and 3 are inductively connected to circuits 4, 5 and 6. An alternating current flows in each of these circuits, which is influenced by the level of mercury in the associated liquid meter so that it is always proportional to the liquid flow in the relevant pipeline. The flow meters are each connected through a pressure line 7, 8 and 9 to the one stagnation nozzle jf <? containing liquid pipelines connected. In each of the flow meter circuits 4, 5 and 6 there is a set 12 of electrical measuring instruments of the type mentioned above which are connected to the line 11 fed by a constant source of alternating current.
The individual 'electrical flow meters' have unequal constants. Each flow meter circuit 4, 5 and 6 is now electrically connected to a branch line 15, 16 and 17 connected in parallel to the line 13 through the intermediary of current transformers M, 19 and 20. The transformation ratios of the current transformers are selected in the specified way so that the currents with different constants are converted into currents with the same constant. The instrument 14, which is calibrated according to this common constant, measures the total flow of the quantities of liquid in the separate pipelines. It can be a watt-hour meter, an ammeter, an ammeter, or anything else.
Likewise, several measuring devices for measuring and registering the total flow in the line 13 can be switched on.
A numerical example should serve for further explanation: It is assumed that at 1 Amp. A flowing current in the circuit 4 shows 100 flow units, in the circuit 5 200 flow units and in the circuit 6 300 flow units. Under these conditions, the alternating current in the three pointer lines will have to be brought to a common constant of 300. The current transformer therefore has a transformation ratio of 3: 1 in circuit 4, 3: 2 in circuit 5 and 3: 3 in circuit 6 while the currents flowing in the flowmeter circuits have different constants the currents of the same constant (3: 1) x 100 == (3; '2) x 200 = (3: 3) x 300 = 300 flowing in the pointing lines.
Of course, all other known types can also be used as electrical flow meters in connection with this circuit arrangement.
PATENT CLAIMS:
