Description

Process for through-dyeing leather. It has been found that leather, in particular chrome leather, can be completely colored by using the reddish-tinged blue dye made from diazotized 2-ethyl- i amino - 5 -amino-1-methylbenzene-4- sulfonic acid and 1-oxynaphthalene-3,8-disulfonic acid are used. The surface of the leather turns pale, reddish-tinged blue, the inside a strong blue.

Example: The neutralized skins are put in a barrel with 150 to 200 ö water of G5 C; the barrel is allowed to run and a solution of the dye made up of diazo- nated 2-ethylamino-5-amino-1-methylbenzene-4-sulfonic acid and 1-oxynaphthalene-3,8-disulfonic acid is added through the hollow shaft. In general, 1 to 2.% of the dye calculated on the shaved weight is sufficient to achieve strong through-coloring.

After 45 minutes, add the fat liquor and stir for another 45 minutes. If the hides are very heavy, the dyeing time must be extended accordingly.
